Volvo C30?

The time for my annual car search has come around again. I’ve given up on the idea of a 4x4 and just want to replace my ageing 56’ Fiesta Zetec with a similar but posher 3 door hatch.

I’ve thought about a new Fiesta but my local Volvo dealer has a 2013 C30 D2 with just 25 miles on the clock. It’s a 1.6 diesel R Design with real world 60mpg capability and low road tax cost (£30 a year I think). Research suggests BMW/Audi build quality so it seems to be a sensible and practical step up from my car. It’s also a very safe car should the unthinkable happen.

Forecourt price is £18k which is a lot but I reckon I could get him down to £15k plus my Fiesta or thereabouts, with the low miles I’m thinking discounted new car price rather than a used car.

Has anybody got one of these or know anything about them? Googling doesn’t bring up many negative points other than the rear hatch opening being a bit small. The C30 isn’t made anymore but that shouldn’t be a problem for many years to come.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

I briefly drove the 2.0 diesel version as a courtesy car, and I loved it! Didn't want to give it back

Chris my stepson has the Clio 1.5dci and that is ubber low tax and he gets close to 70 to the4 gallon even with his all or nothing driving style, wont have the build quality of the Volvo most likely but they do have 5 star crash protection and his has ballistic mileage but haqs had no issues....may be worth a look if mpg is important mate

Well, I went for the Volvo in the end. What is basically a new car at the price I eventually agreed was too tempting, they were £21,400 new. I'd overlooked that it's the R Design Lux model so I get a leather interior and a few more gadgets including SatNav.

£15,400 plus Fiesta and I get a full tank of diesel, I'm one happy bunny. Don't think it'll be a great fishing wagon but that's ok 'cos Steve's got the better car for that :D

Lots in common mechanically with the Ford Focus, which is not a bad thing. I once had one as a courtesy car, and thought it felt as if the steering wheel wasn't actually attached to the front wheels, but I think that's the way of the world with most modern cars.
