Deleting problems

Recommended Posts

Hi chaps,

I'm having problems deleting particular items that have turned up on my desktop.

Started the comp the other day & found stuff like travel, web hosting, casino online, shopping gifts etc sat there. Now I've tried to delete them but they won't go away!

There's nothing on my add/remove program to delete & I tried to get rid of them through the windows search, this found them ok, but as I say wouldn't delete them. However, a dialog box comes up that has the facility to bin them but it simply doesn't happen.

Any advice guys?

Peter.

Have you run Adaware and Spybot?

Elton, I have run both Adaware & spybot, which did find & get rid of a number of nasties but unfortunately not the ones I was targetting.

Chris, I'm going to have a go at that one - fingers crossed!

Thanks for your help chaps.

Peter.

Jeepster,

Installed spyware blaster, which hopefully will prevent them coming back on if I ever get rid of them. One thing I did notice, was one of the files that is on the comp at the moment is Lop.com which Spyware blaster will protect against, but thats another one I can't shift. I don't use a pop up blocker either. Further advice would be much appreciated.

Cranfield,

Thanks for that I will try that one.

Peter.

Ever wanted to delete something WITHOUT it going to the recycle bin?

Easy, select the file in explorer and Press and hold any <Shift> button and <delete> at the same time - one last chance & it's gone without clogging up your bin.

Warning!!! you will need a good file recovery program to retrieve it if you change your mind!

(Don't say I didn't warn you!!!!)

Hi Peter,

I had a simular problem, some of these files contain auto-dials and if you open them they will dial 90p per minute lines.

A friend helped me to remove them and we reported them to BT and another authority who checks them out to see if their activities are illegal.

They do the same with some of the spam e-mails.
