Fox International being sold / taken over.

Not sure how much interest there is, but just dropped onto the news that moves are affot (by Zebco) to buy Fox International.

Personally, I like the Fox gear - but I'd like some of it much more if it wasn't so over-the-top expensive when compared to the competition

Rightly or wrongly, I can't help feeling that the quality of the perception of Fox gear is going to be diluted somewhat by the Zebco name - maybe it'll just help bring prices inline with other ranges?

Bad news - I really rate a lot of the fox stuff, mainly their rods. I hope I'm wrong but this sounds like the quality is going to suffer.

I wonder why they sold up ,if they are as successful as they say then they have no need to be taken over by a foreign company.

I know they operate over europe are they known in america?

I have bumped into zebco gear in the past and found its pretty much badly made tat ,perhaps fox is buying out zebco?

To continue to be successfull a company needs to grow, most companies do this well under their own stream but then reach a point where they can no longer expand for various reasons (mainly financial), when reached they either merge with another company, buy out another company, get bought out by another company or go public. Either way the directors make a tidy profit and most of the time get a new directors job out of it.

In this case Zebco could be trying to get into the UK market as their Zebco gear is seen as bottom end and their Browning brand has also fallen from favour. Fox Uk cant really get any bigger in the UK in a very healthy market against Korda and Drennan to name a few, Fox match does not exist now but is marketed as Matrix (not sure if same company or Fox match sold off).

Could be that Fox are buying Zebco to expand their European / world Markets or to gain more muscle when buying overseas (China / India).

Fox gear: I have terminal tackle, alarms, a pod, rucksack, rover bag, pod bag, rods, various indicators and books.

Expensive - the outlay (price) may seem so when buying but I have had most of this gear along time and it is very very well used and the majority looks like it was bought last week.

You pay for quality, its as simple as that, even my cheap original Fox warrior carp rods outclassed anything in their price bracket and some rods at double the price.

I have never had a problem with Fox kit and hope they do not get taken down the cheap route to cut costs.

I've heard some horror stories about their foray into reel making and would definitely avoid those, but all the fox gear I have is still like new, and I'm not even the original owner of some of it! A pair of £20 alarms bought over 15 years ago are both still like new. Some of the rods I have are second-hand from ebay and cost as much as when they were new 15 years ago. If anything, this might make their sought-after older rods even more expensive!

Can't say I ever thought of Fox stuff as especially pricey compared to the likes of Drennan and Hardy . Own lots of stuff and pleased with it - effective, well made and designed . But nearly had a seizure when replacing the broken 2oz quivertip on my Avon-it was something like £20 for one replacement !
