Although I enjoyed 'The Deepening Pool', it's the only Yates book I've read.

Without being sycophantic, my favourite angling author has to be Jim Gibbinson - the technical detail is there in total clarity, but it is the undercurrent of humour which kept me turning the pages over.

Couldn't agree more Alan, If I want more info on techniques or need to solve a problem I reach for the Jim Gibbinson section on the bookshelves. As for the humour I'm smiling now thinking of the 'grinning loonies in the tree' story

Peter.

I'm another fan of Jim's technical writing. See my review of his latest book "Gravel Pit Carp" at http://anglers-net.co.uk/reviews/gibbo01.htm

The book Jerry referred to is "Tench" in BeeKay's Successful angling series. It's purely about gravel pit tench and contains much sound advice. As with everything that Jim writes about it's been thoroughly tested unless he states it's speculation.

If you're after a copy of Jim's tench book I've one for sale on Classic Fishing Books (link below).
