Diesel question

Recommended Posts

It's MOT time very soon for my van, the thing is, I've been working very close to home since Xmas, (takes me nearly four minutes to get there some days ), I reckon I probably ought to give it a bit of blast to clean up the injectors.

If that makes sense, how much of a run will it need to make the excercise worthwhile?

If your going to do that ayjay it may well be worth putting a bottle of fuel treatment through it, when we did it, it only advised us to run the car for 4 miles after putting the treatment in.

Ayjay, I only do about 4miles each way 4days (sometimes 5) each week. My little diesel van passed last Tuesday with no emission probs :) I actually only did 1800 miles last 12 months, and fished over 200 days :)

any mechanics that can advise me how to keep those dammed universal replacement cv boots on ,the lip on my golf is so small after a couple of weeks they come off ,the supplied metal "jubilee" type clip no matter how tightly pulled relaxes a 1/4" (by the way its constructed) to lock and tie wraps stretch before their tight enough.

cant afford to have the real boots fitted and its not to the amateur an easy job to do it myself as the haynes manual just makes it matter of fact ,we (the mrs and i) have rebuilt engines ,completely repiped from back to front the brake system of an earlier car and replaced most of everything else but i just cant bring myself to remove the propshafts incase i cant get them back together :o

if you can rebuild an engine c.v boots are a doddle.

remove hubnut,jack-up car, disconnect wishbone from hub, pull c.v joint away from the centre of the hub,cut off old boot, tap c.v joint with a mallet and replace with GENUINE c.v boot, then reverse above to re-fit.

motor factor c.v boots are allways a crap fit as they usually fit other cars aswell.

dont forget to re-pack joint with grease

hope this helps

dont you have to split the cv ?? to remove it from the prop shaft ,if it just slides off with the hub it should indeed be easy

Take it for a run of about 50 miles, that'll get the engine hot enough to burn out any crap
