  1. Hi, I've Done the worst thing possible and broken the tip of my much loved Zziplex (sob) Can anyone advise me where I can buy a solid bit of fibre glass to make a spigot to fit into the butt as I've got a decent end piece from an older rod which will do the job but it needs to be a male type fit into the butt. Alternativly is it possible to fill the end of the new end piece with solid fibreglass and build the external diameterup a few mill to fit the butt as its about 21mm and waggles a bit. Any advice would be appreciated
  2. Occupation plays a huge part in deciding a premium. Its all based on actuary tables . When I used to work for a major ins co. the salesmen used to play around with the occupation to get a lower quote. The most famous one being a professional footballer being put down as a leatherworker. One guy I remember in particular insisted he was an author (very high risk) when asked if he had ever published anything he answered no. when asked how he earned his living whilst waiting to be discovered he answered factory worker. (low risk) problem was he insisted he was an author and ended up paying 1500 as opposed to 250. You cant help some people
  3. I spent two months of my life lifting various frozen parts of animals 2cwt at a time into a hopper mixing dog food. Trouble was the animal parts were some of the most disgusting messes you have ever seen. The worst was something called chicken viscera, a grey sludge that stuck like s**t to a blanket and left this odour on you that never left. It was made from ground chicken bones and the bits even cheap nugget makers would never touch like glands. I remember once getting home from a 12 hour night shift so knackered that I dozed off in the chair without a shower and had to chuck it out the next day as it stunk so bad. I was going through a lean time financially so had to drive this old goosed van that didnt have a heater and the weather that year was so cold my windscreen froze solid from the inside. The day I quit I felt like I had been let out of Jail....happy days eh
  4. The ironic thing about kids is that after all the dramas of the teenager JUST when you get to the point of actually having a decent relationship with them they get this idea you are losing your mind and the universe performs this huge reverse where they think THEY need to look after you. This normally consists of looking scared when you drive, asking if you have responded to the "Guaranteed prize" you seem to have won as they check your post and wanting to accompany you to hospital appointments just in case you happen to forget why you went in the first place. The clincher is the present of a cardigan with football buttons on it that you get at christmas.
  5. I did cheat a little as I knew (to my shame ) it was The deathbed speech of Capt Kirk in one of those Star Trek Movies but couldnt remember which one. Generations is the answer. As I do now know its the right answer how about this one How do you shoot the devil in the back? What if you miss? ...
  6. Theres Something comforting about a tilly (or Coleman dual which I use) hissing away on the beach, especially if your on your own. Although I only really use it when access is good though..
  7. Courgettes for dinner for me although I must admit to giving up on the tomatoes and making green tomato chutney (very nice too!!) Went fishing for my first shore session of the new season this year, went off Saltburn Sunday night and ended up taking my coat off and fishing in me shirt at 10.30pm. No fish though except for a few skinny whiting I saw brought in. This weather is so strange though. not so long ago I posted in a thread that pointed out that autumn had arrived at the end of August with leaves dropping and millions of conkers and a bumper crop of brambles...what is going on??
  8. John, I read your previous post post about where to go fishing (I'm assuming this is about that) and had to dash out so this is the first time I have had chance to log on since. Whilst I was out I thought about your post and the first few answers and thought it would kick off and I wasnt wrong was I. Anyway there I was chucking my first line of the new season last night , watching my rod gently dipping in the tide and instead of the usual peace I feel when fishing I started to get really angry because of the attitudes that prevail and really how unfair it all is that a few holier than thou activists can set out to try and destroy what is absolutly plain to me.....the actions of what appear to be a thouroughly decent man who enjoys his fishing and whats more is happy to share his experiences with others. During my trawls through the net for info on venues I have come across your posts and diarys and have found them informative, helpful and a good read. I,ve never met you in my life but I like to think I am a good judge of charactor and I have to say I would be very happy to share a beach or pier with you. Those people who use this forum for other means than to share and spread the good news and sheer joy that fishing can bring I will happily avoid as I believe that they have a bitter and twisted attitude to life and they think they can use this space to spread their poison. Keep on doing what you are doing John. I enjoy fishing for many things. The peace and traquility, the excitement and sense of achievment , the companionship ,and yes the pleasure of a freshly cooked fish that I caught myself. I sense from your posts that you do to and whatever you do dont let the mindless idiots that try to spoil this joy grind you down.
  9. Theres a new one on Mobiles where a premium 070 number rings once and then hangs up, you check the missed call and many ring back...bingo, attached to a premium line because the 070 number looks at a quick glance like a normal mobile and you are £1.50 down even if you hang up straight away
  10. What went wrong I think was that Mclaren's pencil broke 10 minutes into the game and from then on without the ability to scribble his little notes it was all down hill. Up here in Sunny Middlesbrough it comes as no suprise of course and being loyal Englishmen our loss is Englands gain
  11. The Outsiders... great film. One of Mr Coppolla's best. How about...... You kill anybody? a few cops. No real people? Just cops.
  12. Sorry for the delay, I just had to have a little nap, now what were we talking about?????
  13. I think I,m right so how about "I had a farm in Africa"
  14. As a died in the wool tackle tart I have just about every reel known to man including Abu 6500 mag, rocket and 7000 and 9000 series. Penns, slosh's and policanskis but when I tackle up on the beach my hand almost inevitably reaches for the pen 525 mag. Quite simply its flexibility to cast great distances, handle weed and snags and retrieve at a great rate of knots is beyond comparison. Its also built well and handles the knocks. My only critisism is minor in that unless your cast is ultra smooth its a bit fiery to handle unless the mags are on which does cut distance. i agree with the comments about the slosh as well, great reel but with small hands like mine I just cant give it the full welly without losing my grip
  15. One thing I worried about when I had my stent was that i found later that my stent wasnt drug eluding but bare metal and that they have a habit of furring up. When |I asked why I was told it was because they were expensive. I must admit its made me a bit jumpy since, anyone had experience of this?
  16. The only birds left around here wear burberry and drink white diamond
  17. Having suffered the ignomy of having posted a joke recently and not had a single response I feel I need to have a sense of humour check. This is apparantly a true story which I think this is hilarious. A guy gets a job in a hotel as a cleaner and on his first day the supervisor asks him to start by cleaning the lifts. After no-one has seen him for eight hours a search party is sent out and finds him exausted and demoralised. When asked what had happened he blurts that its not his fault as theres 18 floors with two lifts on each floor and sometimes they are not always there!! I'll get me coat.........
  18. Its happening to people a lot earlier than it used to it seems. I had a quad bypass at the age of 46 due as my consultant said to genetic factors as i am apparantly a natural cholestral builder. I asked him the night before the op how long it would last and he said. "I have no doubt we will be seeing you again in10-15 years." 10 years later almost to the hour, in Nov last year (how spooky is that) i had a heart attack whilst driving down the A2 near bexley. Turning off the road as it happened (I was driving a 44 tonn artic and considered it the best thing to do!!) I happened to find myself outside an A+E hospital and luckily was seen within 15 mins, lucky or what! Like you I was so impressed with what happened next. Transfered to Guys and within a week discharged with a nice new shiny stent. Its a sobering thought but i consider myself to be lucky as I know whats happening inside of me. Its like I've had a rebore. The consultant who dealt with me at Guys stated that millions of us are walking around with time bombs in our chests and will have no knowledge of it until the fateful day. The advice to listen to your body is golden advise. Angina can take many forms. Mine was in my chin and throat, not the classic pain in the chest and arm.
  19. With the price of vikings being so cheap now on the likes of ebay I just use em once and replace next trip.
  20. Moderators!!!! I thought swearing was not allowed on here. Wash you mouth out now!!
  21. A British classic..Meaty pork sausages, creamy mash, Peas (gotta be processed) nice drop of onion gravy, oh and two courgettes fresh off the plant.
  22. Me and SHMBO celebrate 30 years this year and as yet have not a clue what do do to make it special. with 4 weeks to go and an echo in my wallet its getting a bit hairy so any ideas anyone? Shes a diamond though even if she still doesnt understand why I need another reel to add to the 9 I already have!!
  23. An Engineer, an HR Manager and a software engineer are on their way to a company training course when the car they are in loses its brakes halfway down a steep hill and starts careering at great speed towards a sheer drop. The driver with great courage and skill eventually manages to stop the vehicle by driving into a bank and they all climb out greatly relieved and shaking to assess the situation. The engineer examined the car and declares the brake lines are split, suggests they fix them with a patch, bleed the brakes and continue with their journey The HR manager suggests they call for some councelling to prevent post tramatic shock and instigate some training for the company mechanics The software engineer (with a gleam in his eye) says, "lets go back to the top and see if it happens again!!"
