plenty at stockbridge being in a sandy area ,the grass snakes love a dip but only once have i seen an adder swimming .

the adders only frequent one side of the lake (a sandy bank) and i did once see them breeding a knot of writhing snakes totally engrosed in torrid sex action thus not disapearing in a flash as a heavy footfall usually usually does well before you see them

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

I have seen several swimming Grass Snakes over the years . . .

Last year I took the familty rowing on the Medway at Tonbridge. Five of us in a clinker built boat making our way around the playing fields, when a Grass Snake apreared swimming across. It passed about a 60cm from the boat and my children thought it was wonderful. Though my 13 year old was disappointed I would not pick it up !

You would of regretted picking it up, although they won't hurt you they do excrete a foul smelling liquid that won't make you very popular :yucky:

While their fangs do not contain any poison they can still give a painfull bite.

If you think you have quick hands they are quicker !! So best left alone.

I have seen plenty of snakes when fishing over the years.

On a lot of lakes with islands on them I have seen snakes go across the water to get on the island.

I once nearly stood on one which was in long grass next to the water I do not know who jumped out of there skin most be or the snake !

Snakes regularly slough their skins, Pike, but if it's happening to you, I should see a doctor...

Did you ever see that film "The Lair of the White Worm"?

No I did not see the film.

At the time I get up in the morning unless I am watching sport on TV I doze off !

HI

I was fishing Jacks lake Barnet once and had a grass snake swim into my landing net, they are quite attractive creatures when you get a close look. When I let him go he/she?? went off to the other side of the lake, lovely sight, nature at it's best

What do you catch in jack's lake now? I caught my first ever freshwater fish there in August 1959. A small roach. Great memory, though, the first time in my life I saw a float go under!
