Don't know much about the Okuma's, but have you looked at the Shimano TLD's???

Scott

the TLDs are proven reels and (I think) you can get them for less than £125.

I would certainly choose a TLD over an Okuma

Would agree Jabee, I've got a 20 which I paid £99 for, my mate has a 15, the 20 is quite a bit bigger spool wise so would be more suited to deep water skate fishing.

Hiya,

I've got an old Okuma that has done well and lande more than it's fair share of Skate, however we had one of the new one's on the boat and it failed on it's first fish.. not really what you want to happen.

As Scott & Jaybee have said.. have a look at the TLD25.. they are tried and tested and are well up for the job of the occasional skate trip. If you want to use it more often for skate then it's time to look at the big game stuff as none of the reels on the UK market are up to the job.

Guess who the lucky guy was that had bought the Okuma that Davy is talking about.,,,,,,yep, you guessed it....took it straight back, and upped to a TLD 25... which as Davy says, is good enough for occasional Skate...but not for constant use for them....tho', I was aboard Catchalot and " gave " away what turned out to be a 195lber which was brought in on a TLD25. ...but I have now progressed to Penn 50tw Intys.....

To be honest, I bought another Okuma 50 off Ebay (supposedly new) recently, but only because it was loaded with 600 mtrs of brand new PowerPro Braid, which was worth more than the reel...It was, and I got a bargain, the reel lives in the cupboard now...... :D:D
