Photo challenge # 21 Bridges

Not sure I understand what Cliff is trying to say, I had picked his entry as a favourite before the final three were announced, but going by his interpretation, if Frantics entry is not valid simply because you cannot see the whole Bridge as is the case in many of the entries, then Cliffs entry was even less valid because he has deliberately gone to the trouble of hiding it. Both of these entries are in fact extremely valid because of their artistic merit, what is so hard to understand about that. I just don't get it.

But please Steve, don't let anything anyone says, change the way this FUN Comp is run, it's a fantastic opportunity for amateurs, learners, experimenters, and slightly shy budding photographers to express their 'eye' and is perfect the way it is. I don't even see the need for the Judges explanations unless they themselves wish to do so.

. . . but you have picked up 'the point' TB, subject does not have to be 'in your face', to make a viable entry . . . 'subtlety' was the idea. The fact that 'secret Bridge' was not in the 'three' did not and does not bother me, personal pleasure was the taking as mentioned previously, also knowing what I can do in future to improve such a picture, 'shooting into a strong sun, from a very shaded area, tough I think? By the way, I was surprised HB's night shot did not make it, but thats how the cookie crumbles, its down to the judge. :D

I can echo that final paragraph :yeah:

Can I comment? Thought the "Wingham" bridge would set a few hearts fluttering :) thought I might get a vote or two from Budgie and Elton....and Julian........:) :)

Little bit of crafty thinking that didn't work..:)

Den

Den, It got my heart racing, immediately imagined that i was walking across again with all my gear.

:sun::sun::sun:

Fishing seems to be my favorite form of loafing.

"Even a bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work."

I know the joy of fishes in the river through my own joy, as I go walking along the same river.

What do you think if the float does not dip, try again I think.

Thank goodness Medway, I began to think that my talents were being wasted :) Would you have voted for it ? :)

I had a super pic of a "bit of stonework", really artistic it was, one of the foundation stones of an old railway bridge................................

Den

"When through the woods and forest glades I wanderAnd hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,And hear the brook, and feel the breeze;and see the waves crash on the shore,Then sings my soul..................

Eels Bridge by Phil Dean. Really liked my Hobbits Hideaway until I saw this one and loved the 'print' like quality of it.

Ah bless, thank you.

That was one of my first 20 photo's taken with the new camera, as soon as i read the challenge i had this pop into my mind as an idea. It was the only chance I had to go there whilst the challenge was running, being in the wilds on the border between cumbria and alston. I'm glad you liked it though I have to ask, what do you mean by reference to the print quality?

We were hoping to enlarge some local photos and stick them on the walls, is that what you were meaning?

Not sure really, more three dimensional perhaps or just the actual quality of the photo, it just has more impact than mine, if I knew what it was or how to fix it I'd be taking advantage of it myself.

I think I actually meant to say 'postcard' quality. We enlarged HB's jetty photo to a poster and it looks awesome, it's 20" by 25" and laminated, cost $60 but was worth it.

I hate getting up early, I didn't even realise there were two 6 o'clocks in one day!
