What your angling weakness ?

I've no weakness, I'm genetically perfect.

Oh, I forgot I have one weakness which is a common one round my area, "Pies", just can't stop eating em.

Getting itchy feet and moving too often, and not being able to admit to my wife just how much money i spend on fishing tackle.

i think mine is that i realy want to be a good river fisher,but always end up at the ponds coz im too idle to lug my gear around,

also have a bad habit of picking a spot thats treeless in full view of all and needing a pee

When I am deadbaiting for Pike a reluctance to move or change swims if the one I'm in is not producing.

Then carry less gear. When I was a spotty adolescent we used to tramp out 5 miles over the Balquidder hills to fish a couple of remote lochans. That taught me to take only the gear I really need with me. I still only take the minimum gear with me on each outing. Max 2 rods + reels, normally one, a shoulder bag with bait/tackle, landing net, mat and perhaps a small folding chair.

When I am fly fishing I carry everything I need in my pockets, (well, maybe not the rod ) and I still tramp miles to fish remote lochans.

My current weakness is fishing the same stillwater venue. I keep promising to go river fishing each winter as I used to, but always something gets in the way!

I think I'm fairly competent in most areas, though I don't think I can "read" a beach the way I can read a river or lake. There's a big difference between competence and excellence, though. I'm not bad at trotting (a lot better when I don't use a pin ), but I've known a few masters of the art, and they are in another league. I had a mate at school who had grown up fishing river matches with his father, himself a very successful matchman. I could usually match or beat him on a stillwater, but with a stickfloat he was lethal. He could sit in your swim after you'd spent an hour blanking on it and quickly start to catch fish, and you could never see quite what he was doing differently. His dad was the same. Infuriating!
