crabs

hi all

we all no that crabs are around on almost every sea fishing trip ive been too i've cought crabs

so i have a few questions about them

 

q 1: can i use ordinary crabs 2 catch bass on ? ( not peeler)

 

q 2: what sort of sizes (big,small,meduim)?

 

q3:what other fish eat crabs off the shore ?

You can use hardbacks but as they have next to no scent and yours will be just one of thousands you probably won't get a bite. Smoothhounds eat hardbacks, in fact they sort out the larger specimens. I've caught cod with a gut full of hardbacks so they do hoover them up. Use a size suitable to your hook and fish you expect to catch but You'll have a long wait but I expect to be proved wrong.

i have used them, not with any success though, mind you, havn't had any success with peelers this past year either.

It' very odd, but look in a Bass's stomach, and you usually find small green hardbacks! My guess is, the crabs are moving, attract the Bass, and get eaten. A still dead small hardback impaled on a hook will not attract.

You normally pay for imformation like that ,put them in a blender then put the gunge into a finger bandage and freeze it and you have one magic bait.

No, but they won't be mobile and moving quite fast to attract a fishes attention.
