I think Rabbit is probably sailing nearer reality than you Kleinboet, the fact is that stuff does cross forum and topic now and our mods do a great job of getting onto it, but its not an insult to them to admit they are only human.

As for slanging Rabbit with the comment re 'you don't want to be an adult' that's a bit much.

Maybe Rabbits analogy wasn't the best... I think its a bit like smoking... those who excercise their right to smoke, and those who would like to be smoke free but can't avoid it.

 

As you say its up to Elton but personally if the forum becomes inaccessible from work as has been suggested it might, and there is a 'leakage' of content which seems very likely, I would have to consider not bothering with it any more.

I would like to think it would contain a bit of adult discussion and humour.

 

Maybe the odd funny like Chris Goddard has posted(not only Chris who posted it).

The stuff Newt, myself and many others have posted could be classed as adult but you still get to see that at work eh?

If it comes down to work load on mods then I offer my services as a helper.

Anyone else offering to help, no pay and just abuse for doing the job.

 

Seems when adult is mentioned the response is not so adult.

I have an opinion on the proposed adult like many others on here, why you single me out from the rest is a mystery. I can appreciate that moding thise site in the present format is a problem, let alone all the other issues that such a forum would throw up.

Because it would be labelled Adult, would not lessen the vunerability of AN to some sort of legal action. In essence this site is a ANGLING site with a VERY successful NON FISHING forum with a few other equally successful forums. It would be leap in the dark to embrace such a forum and would alienate too many to be worth it.

However it is Eltons choice, and at least he has asked the members opinion on the matter, and I have replied, you may not agree with me , but you should respect my opinion without the need to so volatile.

What are people expecting the adult forum to contain?

 

I think this is where the confusion is.

 

I know some members on here only object to the idea because I'm in favour of it.

 

I say if a head ram wanted it the sheep would follow.

 

 

 

It's acceptable for certain 'adult' pictures and jokes to pass but selective moderation is fine in some cases.

 

My feelings are the adult forum could work as well as any other forum provided the rules where set and moderation was based on post content, not personal feeling towards the poster.

The speakers for an "adult" section tell anyone who disagrees with it being on Anglers Net, that they don't have to enter it.

 

Equally, if those supporters want to view such Forums, there must be loads on the Internet for them to go and view.

Why do we need them on an Angling Forum ?

 

I spent some time yesterday guesting on a couple of other angling Forums and recognised some of the posters from here (unless someone is borrowing their AN usernames), quite a bit of "politics" involved in this issue methinks.

Its also amusing how people slang off AN and its administrators on these other Forums , but still post here.

Maybe some of us have a pretty good idea what this proposal may lead to, I don't think I'm confused, I'm certainly not a prude, I have no axe to grind with any other member, I don't care for comments like... so you don't want to be an adult... mmm very grown up. I don't expect to see porn or swearing cross threading I respect the mods judgement too much for that.

 

If this proposal goes ahead my personal opinion is that the very thing you are seeing right now will ruin our forums, and that is an increase in back-biting and personal verbal attack spilling across forums.

Yes, there may be some good (better) humour, some more pics such as Chris Goddards recent offering, and almost certainly some interesting and direct debates, but its the bitching and swiping that will leak out and make AN a less pleasant place to call in to for general topics.

 

So please don't label the negative responses as not so adult we are merely expressing a desire to see AN continue as a pleasant experience for the majority of members male and female and the casual guest.

Mmm don't know if I have been on the same Anglers Net but I have noticed quite a few forums on there not relating to fishing.

 

 

 

How about Elton gives it a three week trial?

Good point. There is material which is not allowed on the forum because it is of an adult nature. There is also material which is not allowed because it is hateful. I think it would need to be made clear that the difference between the adult forum and the normal forum would be only that it would allow the former, not the latter. In other words, in the example of racism, it shouldn't be tolerated any more than on the main forum.

 

I think it's unrealistic if anyone thinks that it will be a refuge where they can be "politically incorrect", as they would term it. "Adult" isn't the same as "anything goes".
