Pressure Mat

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to locate a pressure mat to place under our entrance mat so that when a customer enters it rings a bell outside.

Have located only very low voltage ones to date which will not operate a bell.

Any other ideas instead of a mat?

We need it as we spend a lot of time in the greenhouses and out in the area to the rear of the shop.

Once again any advise most gratefully received.

You could use a "normally closed" switch in the back of the door/frame, only downside is it will continue to operate until the door is closed again.

A PIR or even a CCTV camera could be wired up to ring a bell without much difficulty.

I had one a few years ago Ken, I think it was operated by a 9 volt battery, which is plenty to operate a standard bell. If you want to operate a bigger bell you will have to use a relay as Chesters said.

To be honest you are better off with a door sensor if door is kept shut, or a PIR if door gets left ajar.

what about the good old bell being hit by the door being opened or an infra red beam which would go off when broken etc(two sensors either side etc)

not sure where to buy them but just a thought.

Timeguard also do a heck of a range or PIR sensors with remote chimes etc - good RF coding to, I have some at work where each spotlight makes the next turn on and a chime / alarm goes off as well, very good for keeping the yobs at bay.

The PIR on the ceiling over front door seems a good idea so that I could set it for 30 sec. ringing of bell placed outside of back door.

PIR don't think that will be a problem, is it possible that with a bit of luck some where out there is one which would operate a bell wireless or am I clutching at straws?????

OR could I simply run a bell cable from the PIR to the bell?????
