Yes, I liked the bit about lots of fish under the bank. However, very few people can keep quiet enough and still enough for long enough to catch them !

A bit of chub stalking on a little river would soon educate them!

Or they could try getting at the trout in the little brook I fished just outside Bath - they were damned spooky, narrow, steep sided gorge, inches of water, I couldn't get close enough to put a fly to them.

Oh yeah, they do believe that - I was recently talking to someone who said she wouldn't want to swim in a lake at night because she was scared of the pike! :D

Excellent find Steve!

As for #9 had 3 double figure carp (and one just under 10) all within a FOOT of the bank on Friday night - just dapping a bit of crust (and hanging on for dear life!)

'Study the habitat, work out where the fish are and then, if possible, get them to bite. If you fish well, you'll probably catch a fish; and if you don't catch one, you'll still have the satisfaction of having fished well.'

Absolutely spot on!

If anyone ever fishes Thailand, the single biggest tip for catching the red tailed catfish is to fish under your rod tip - literally 40cm from the bank.

Same goes for river pike in the UK - a weedless lure fished inches from the bank will outfish almost anything fished out in the middle.
