Rod Licences For Carp Fishing

hi,

This is probably going to sound a little silly but anyway here it goes.

I know that you have to have two licenses to fish 3 rods but does a marker or spod rod count towards this?

For example, could I fish using two rods and use a spod rod while both the other rods are in the water if I only have one license and would I have to pay for 3 rods (2 carp rods and the spod/marker).

Bit confused as you are not technically fishing (hook and bait) with the spod or marker rod.

If anyone could clear this up for me the advice would be well appricated

No, you're OK - it only applies to rods which are actually fishing. Using a spod or marker rod at the same time is fine :)

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Hello Ryan, and welcome to the forums :)

No, you do not have to pay for a marker or spod rod as you are not using it to catch fish, only to mark your spot or chuck bait out with. Nor should you have to pay for a rod that you have set up but are not fishing with at the time. On a few occasions I've had up to 4 rods (sometimes 5) set up but have only been fishing with one or two, and have therefore only had to pay for the ones I'm actually fishing with.

thank you

thats really cleared things up for me

and il be going out to get a spod and marker rods as soon as i have enough money

even though i probally wont be goin fishing for a good month

Just out of intrest what about day ticket lakes who charge a different price depending on how many rods you are using, does the marker rod effect the price.... espcially if it is in the water at the time they come round asking for money? Or do they understand the use of the extra rod?

Best to check the rules for that

Found this one while browsing around

http://www.southlakeas.co.uk/rules.php

# No member shall fish at any one time with more than 2 rods and lines, both to be attended, this to include marker rods. A third rod permit may be purchased allowing a 3rd rod to be used between 1st November and 31st March.

How strange, they count a marker rod as one of the two rods you're allowed to use, though I doubt an EA bailiff would class a marker/spod rod as a rod used for fishing.

There's more to going fishing than catching fish.

There are some day ticket waters with odd (silly) rules about markers and spods etc. The EA rules are quite simple, it's just the rods that you are fishing with with a hook on that count and that are in the water.

As a slight aside - don't try reeling rods in though if you don't have a licence at all as you will still be prosecuted for fishing without a licence as the intent is there.
