Hi all

I am looking to get a Digital SLR to replace my Canon compact digital camera, I love fishing but love just as much the nature that we see whilst fishing, my compact is ok for basic pics but I want to upgrade to a better camera and I have a shopping budget of £1000 to play with, what would you suggest are some good options?

Any advice would be great.

Regards Scott....

Cannot go wrong with the Nikon D80, or buy the D40x for a fair bit less (almost the same spec as the D80) and spend the rest on a couple of zoom lenses :camera:

As an ex Canon SLR user I was put off buying one of their DSLRs partly by reports of reliability problems, though many on here use Canons with no problem.

Hi happymondays

In terms of personal recommendation, I've only ever used the 20/30D's from Canon. Superb cameras, now superseded by the 40D. They have accompanied me on every fishing trip in the last 2 years and have performed / perform faultlessly.

Best bet is to go down the shops and have a play with as many makes / models as possible :) .

With the advent of the Nikon D300 HM, the price of the D200 is starting to come down. With a grand to play with, you could buy a 200 with money leftover for other goodies.

I have the D200 & cannot praise it highly enough, very user friendly once you've played a while. A friend of mine has the D80 as well, which he swears by. So Nikon wise, for me it's a choice of two.

What a nice dilemma to be in though :camera:

Peter.

The loose lines gone..STRIKE.

Once bitten twice shy for me. As i am a bost fishing fan, the first digi camera i bought lasted two outings, On the second trip it fell into the harbour, even the skipper sniggered, so on a boat, cheapest is best for me. The other concern for me, is using a camera with salty fingers. Don't suppose it's worth me buying a decent one unless someone tells me diffrent?

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Thanks Peter going to give this one some thought, Just another quick question what kind of lens should I look for? what is the difference to choosing a Canon EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM at £127

to a Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM at £860

What does the F value relate to, sorry but its all pretty new to me I'm used to just point and click but I want to get into this properly and if your going to pay for it do it once and do it right has always been my philosophy. As always I'm grateful of your help.
