For lure traces, I just coil them and store them in a plastic pounch with zip seal bags in it - the bags are available cheap from your local "head shop".

For traces with threbles, I just use a standard rig bin. To be honest, I don't see much advantage to avoiding coiling 'cause with a 6oz sardine on the hooks, any springyness in the wire makes no difference.

I do exactly the same in both cases. How can a rig bin be described as "too heavy", they must weigh about half an ounce! Bulky, yes, but not so much as to be a problem.

I also use rig bins for keeping sea fishing hooklengths on, because they allow plenty of ventilation so the hooks can dry before they start to rust.

True, they're not 'too heavy', but are heavier than wallets. It's the bulk I don't like really. I just like to take the minimum amount of stuff with me, especially in the way of boxes and containers :) I can't see any benefit of a rig bin over a rig wallet personally (for wire traces).

I use rig bins for pike traces and a wallet for carp rigs. Wallet is about 10 times the weight of the bin, and about 4 times as bulky. Actually I can get 4 bins in the space of 1 rig wallet (Fox) ( I just checked :) )

I can understand that in roving situations.Bit hard to squeeze a rig bin in your pocket. For that sort of thing I tend to just carry a few traces in grip seal bags loose in my waistcoat pocket.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

If the bulk of a rig bin is a problem and you don't want to risk bare treble hooks in a pocket, there are plenty of small round food tubs in your local supermarket that will happily accomidate 4 or 5 properly coiled traces without undue risk of tangles and that;d fit snuggly in almost any pocket.

Bought one of the flat fox trace storage wallets ages ago and it is no better or worse than a rig bin imo, I now use a sea fishing rig wallet with the plastic pouches inside and find that takes up less room in the rucksack.

I used to take everything and the kitchen sink with me and stick in the swim i managed to drag all my gear to but of late have scaled down the amount i take unless i am confident of being in a hot swim,Now i try to take net, mat, rods banksticks, alarms, unhooking gear, small bag of bits and bobs and small cooler box for bait/seat.

Carry a couple of spare traces in a small sea rig wallet and while away the time bitween swims by making a few more on the bank[bit like rolling a fag or making a cupa a sure fire way to induce a take at the worst moment].

It took me ages to work out but you dont need to take twenty pike floats and the same ratio of leads, traces, spare rods etc to cover every possible sceneario my twopennys worth steve.

We are not putting it back it is a lump now put that curry down and go and get the scales

have I told you abouit the cruise control on my Volvo ,,,,,,,bla bla bla Barder rod has it come yet?? and don`t even start me on Chris Lythe :bleh::icecream:

The Fox wallet was close to ideal but expensive and quite heavy. Like you I'm trying for a minimalist approach. My rucksack has 1 long narrow pocket which I've always felt would store traces nicely.

Thinking of a more robust version of Leon's hook tube:-
