Girls rely on Sheilas’ Wheels….

Is this discrimination ?

(Deep breath) ….in this world of political correctness , are we (Men) being hard done by?

This company and advert promises better deals for the female sex and pretty much accuses men of being dangerous drivers.

There’s no particular hatred of women drivers (on my part) , after all , women are the safest drivers on the road…….while putting their make-up on in the rear-view mirror / attending to screaming kids / selecting their favourite CD from the glove compartment / reading the shopping list / on the mobile phone to their mother and probably all being done while driving in heeled shoes , they still manage to keep their eyes on the road and keep a clean sheet with the insurance companies.

My idea of the woman being the safest driver on the road is this..

1. they are on the same insurance clause as the husband ,so when an ‘incident’ occurs it is the husband / fiancé who cops the bill

2. they drive the husband / fiancés car (same as number 1 i suppose)

3.women have the accident and flutter their eyelashes at the poor unsuspecting victim and in a moment of madness agree that it was HIS fault

So…….what are we going to do about it?

How come there isn’t any designated MALE ONLY insurance brokers?

I suppose the company in question will find out (in due course) just how safe women are on the road.

That has been know since they came out! I't's a GIMMICK!

How many drivers (regardless of sex) claim accident damages in a year? Something like 1% or less!

It's all gimmick. There isn't even an Australian connection. Sheilas’ Wheels are simply part of esure.

In much the same way, Admiral, Elephant.co.uk and Confused.com are all the same company. They advertize themselves as competators so that the more credulous in society will believe that that's what they are and they get two or three bites of the cherry when people start comparing quotes.

I think the Dr / musician from the Friday Night Project who did a spoof on the Sheila's Wheels advert was close to the mark, but really funny....

A couple of lines chosen at random:

'If you ever see a bird reverse, you're gonna end up in a hearse....'; or 'if the driver's name is Cheryl, you're in real f*****g peril, if you want to leave the car alive, never let a woman drive!'

There are lots of specialist insurers, targeting particular parts of the market. Sheila's Wheels / Diamond etc are just going for one particular chunk; women who believe the hype and don't compare quotes. My sister tells me that none of the women's insurers have ever been competitive for her, but I'm sure people believe the advertising and don't shop around.

As for women being safer drivers, statistically they cost the insurer less to indemnify. There is a theory that women tend to have minor accidents due to technical mistakes, while men tend to have big accidents due to driving like dicks, but I don't know how much truth there is in that. What I have seen is statistics suggesting that while younger women cost the insurers less than younger men, this equalises and then swaps over somewhere in middle age.

Incidentally, the insurance industry's response to rumblings from the EU which would indeed consider this to be unacceptable discrimination is summed up here:

Sound right to me - Mrs A scrapes wingmirrors and bumpers regularly, but the cost to fix those is less than Mr.A's 'wrapped the car round a tree whilst having a sunday morning blast' accident he has once a lifetime.
