If you only had one rod and reel

I'm glad that I don't have to go with just one rod but If I had no choice and had to pick just one rod/reel it would either be a Harrisons '12’ Chimera Specialist No 2' rod or a Greys Prodigy Barbel rod and a Shimano 5000 class reel.

Something like a decent 1.75lb TC carp/barbel rod with a through action and a 5010 sized baitrunner. If you're inclined toward larger fish, it'll land anything that swims in our rivers and lakes (and probably seas too given the current state of affairs) and still a pleasure to use.

Then I read Chris P's reply.

7 of my PB's have fallen to this tackle (Tench,Chub,Perch,Dace,Grayling,Roach & Rainbow Trout) and if I was only allowed one rod I'd much rather be looking at a float!

Unfortunately I don't currently own a rod I like enough to use exclusively, that said I can’t decide on whether to use my centrepin or Mitchell 300 reels. I recently brought myself some baitrunner reels for tenching however if I could just get a Mitchell 300 with a line clip I'd never use them!

Wow that really is the worst answer to this thread I should be a politician!

The 300 spools had a clip but only for holding the line end and you had to remove the spool to put the line in the clip.

Not a problem for us given how easily the spool comes off and US style fishing does not use a line clip the way UK anglers do as a casting & location aid.
