Sharia law in UK?

As I understand it the proposal isn't that Sharia law would be used in criminal cases. Instead it would be an option only in cases like divorce and business disputes.

There is an existing mechanism where both parties can agree to arbitration under Sharia law; it's essentially a matter of both parties agreeing voluntarily to abide by the decision, and was the cause of the last lot of headlines. I think the difference with this proposal is that both parties could agree to make the decision binding. There's some issue with contract law to do with essentially not being able to sign certain rights away, and it's this that would have to change.

Unlike the arbitration mechanism, which I have no problem with, I think this is a very, very bad idea.

Can someone clarify this for me, please?

Was Dr Williams suggesting adoption for Sharia law for Moslems only, or the adoption of aspects of Sharia law for us all?

One is a definite aversion - why two lots of laws for one country? If this is what was implied, Dr Williams has obviously suffered serious brain-fade.

If he meant that there are benefits to us all in the adoption of aspects of Sharia law and he can identify them so we can publicly debate the issue, then why not?

If you think about it, many of our exosting laws have had to be either re-written or have replaced older laws to comply with the EU edicts.

Sharia law governs every aspect of life for a devout muslim in the hadiff, encompassing every thing from S4itting, shaving, to armed robbery, A lot of disputes bettween muslims are allready adressed in the mosque

and most posple walk away from these informal adjudications happily,I believe what the thrust of the Arch Bishops arguement was that these dissisions be made Legaly binding,

I would argue that they where already!

The silly old Goat is a well meaning man but so out of touch Its frighting that any one even bothers to listen to him.I think our Wigs and Gavels are still safe, and the spectre of the Scimiter is just a bad dream.

Someone once said to me "Dont worry It could be worse." So I didn't, and It was!

The sad thing is, Dr Williams is a scholar and always likely to provoke debate, quite unlike to previous two vacuous fools who tried to make the Church of England into something which was all things to all people and in the end provided nothing for anyone - least of all the leadership so desperately needed.

For all its faults, at least the Catholic congregation know where they kneel!

I believe your right,

But a lot ( not all ) of scholarly people tend to be some what out of touch in other areas of their lives, and live slightly outside of the mainstream of working class men and women like myself

they also tend to forget that other poeple who may be not as far sighted as them selves lose sight of the piont that is being made, or cherry pick and sensationalize the more contravertial parts of the debate to suite there own agenda. Daily mail journalisum being a good example.

And I always thought bigamy was illegal in England?

Oh sod it, we've given the right to make 75% of our laws away to the EU so the muslims may as well have the rest. :)

Guest Brumagem Phil

The usual faces and usual racial stirrings.

Odd though.......over the past 12 months I've seen numerous threads on here criticisising the judiciary for being inept and out of touch. Someone offers and alternative/addition to the system and its instantly dismissed out of hand.

ROFLMAO

I wondered which of the usual wollie heads was going to come out with the "racist" word first.

Perhaps you could define for me "racist" and then explain which part of this thread is "racist"?
