Nope. Not just anyone can buy timber like that in Japan. You wouldnt get a sniff of it if you intended to put it near a CNC machine. Manually operated power tools permitted for roughing out work only. These are beams for sacred places.You'd probably get your nuts cut off for using sandpaper for finishing.

I didn't find them John. I've a nephew wo is married to a Japanese lady. He lives in Hokkaido. He posted them on my FaceBook because he knows I have an interest in artisanal work.

Which means what exactly? Just because one does not beleive in gods does not mean that one can't appreciate the architecture or atrtisanship that went into creating man's holy places, wheter that be a Japanese Shinto temple or a French Gothic church. When I'm in Caen visiting my daughter we both enjoy havin a wander rounnd the Eglise Saint Pierre. That doesn't mean that the pair of us have suddently converted to Roman Catholicism. It's a beautifull building whether or not one believes in gods as is Japan's Hōryū-ji.
