The salary of the chief executive of a large corporation is not a market award for achievement. It is frequently in the nature of a warm personal gesture by the individual to himself.

John has just got down there, only to find a 12lb Bass was caught on a certain beach to the west yesterday, e b on the wrong beach.

must have been caught during the day, as we turned up to fish lyme regis last night, looked at the waves crashing over the cobb & went straight down the pub.

I can't get out to fish tonight on account of TAKING TO DRINK!

("Don't go near your Father now children, he's taken to drink again, you remember the last time, now just go to your rooms & i'll get the fire extinguisher")
