  1. A modern android pad will work fine ,most of the problem is the android version can no longer function for some apps.My old pad could no longer use the 'Capta' (the things that asks you to tick on cars or crossings etc to verify your a human) so signing in on some things impossible . Used it to put games on for grandkids and bought an up to date one. Never owned an apple device ,the knowledge that you dont own it (as in the company can remove its service anytime)and its deliberately programmed to fail if they want it to over the air via updates should make people very wary ,saying that my sister loves hers and her job revolves around it is another side of the story.Another naughty thing is some of their tech only works with the latest phone forcing you to hand over a grand just to use their watch ! Never understood using a mobile phone to browse the web either ,you must be missing a great deal using that rather than a 10 or 12" tablet and that onscreen keypad is so tiny aswell my fat fingers enter the wrong letters on this pad as it is lol

  2. Decided to take myself fishing today, which meant five miles each way on my pushbike - which is pretty much my limit. I arrived at the venue (Wilden Pool near Stourport), with two travel rods, a seat, and some basic gear, at about 11am, and found the place packed, with a match in progress. I set up a match rod and a 7' spinning rod. The match rod got a waggler, and the spinning rod was basically set up for freelining, but with a little float that slides onto the line from a wire to act as an indicator. Noth had barbless hooks to soft and fine braided hooklinks. The chap next to me was fishing hard against the island with standard carp gear and had already had a couple when I arrived. I put the spinning rod out, about 40cm off a clump of reeds, and fished the waggler at about 5m, in a little over 2m of water. Both baited with meat I then sat in the cold for two hours without a bite! Feeling pretty miserable, I had the rice and curry from my food flask, took a swig of water, and zipped up my coat to keep warm. Finally, the inside rod marker slid away and I struck into nothing. Ten minutes later, the waggler slipped under, and I struck and was immediately smashed up. I knew the line was new, so there must have been a fault, but I set back up and ten minutes latter, the float slid away, resulting in a common of about 6 lb, that put up an amazing scrap. Not so amazing was that I needed forceps to remove the hook - I'd accidentally put a barbed hook on after getting smashed. Part way through tying a new barbless hook, the indicator on the freelined bait slid away, and I landed a low double. The chap next to me packed up at 4:30, with a total of 8 fish. I fished on until six, and ended up with ten fish, including two that were either very high doubles or low twenties (one a fin and mouth perfect common that gave a lift bite) and a mid double that I hooked in the base of the anal fin, and which took me all over the pool. I packed up because it started raining more heavily than forecast and I got soaked coming home. The return trip was a bit grim, because my knees were giving me grief and the tackle bag was cutting off the blood to my arms, but all told, it was a fun day. Weird that it was all carp though, the place is stuffed with bream and they love the small chunks of meat that I had on the waggler.

  3. The last one I bought was about four years ago and is a Xiaomi. It does what I need, but it's hardly current tech. I tend to treat stuff like this as disposable. Most will let you play videos and access the web without any issues. Edit: Just be sure to decide weather you want to use a SIM, or just wifi before you buy.

  4. Cheap Android tablets work just as well as an i-pad, but I much prefer a PC plugged into the TV and a wireless keyboard.

  5. Not my favourite my gran on my dads side (a genuine cockney) offered it but one bite later i gave it back .Dripping not so bad we still use it for frying although the over the counter version is a sad bland relation nearer lard in constitution. Drew the line at jellied eels as well my mothers side of me probably had inbuilt dislike of sucking bones in my mouth to get a morsal of meat ,remove the meat from the bone ..fine! There seems to be this correlation though in the video to oils but lifestyle has changed aswell .Back then you chose what went in your food and today unless you cook like they did in the past the foods pumped full of poison whether you want it or not.Take bacon theres no need at all for nitites or nitrates being injected into it (mostly to bulk it up and make it weigh more (nitrates? Is now gone) bacon can be made without any additives other than smoke but those with low incomes cannot afford that so they eat what they can get.Why the need for sugar or salt in products leave it out and leave it up to the consumer to add it if they want ,same for half of the additives are they really needed or just there to make processing cheaper by innjecting taste into food like chicken stock cubes to make chicken taste like chicken because its so bland today as the chickens rarely eat natural food. I predict in a short while additive(s) X or Y will suddenly will found to be killing millions because governments cannot be arsed to look after people checking the science behind it.Most probably they already know and brown envelopes and greed keep them quiet ,why would they care so long as they can afford the expensive clean stuff (probably on expenses) Could explain this suddenly strange world we now inhabit somethings causing it perhaps something put in the food or water to dissolve the brain so we can be controlled easier but going by the recent demonstrations its back fired and the bit of the brain that controls common sense and the realisation of consequence of your actions has dissolved away and the idiot bit amplified.

  7. They can't catch the kids that are causing havoc on electric scramblers, so I don't think I've got too much to worry about unless I'm doing 40kph up a hill without pedalling, and they come up behind me. Of the two listed, I like that the Shengmilo only has 3" tyres, but I hate those forks, and I don't really like rear suspension. The Burchda has nice forks and is a solidly built hardtail, but those big 4" tyres are going to attract unwanted attention. I'm still looking for the perfect combination.

  8. My job was only 10 miles away and the Hogs Back usually gridlocked so instead of sitting wasting fuel in my landy i nipped up the middle on the Honda .Bit nippy in winter infact i was the only vehicle on it one morning after freezing rain .It amuses me these huge bikes with panniers and fuel tanks 3 feet wide unable to follow me ,whats the point of a bike if you sit behind a car as if you were a car .Yes on the days traffic moved they had the advantage but 75% of the time i sailed past as they sat still My favourite was a zundapp scooter and side car ,i took it to the wooden bridge pub (a scooter haunt) and they were gob smacked it had everything lambrettas and vespas didnt and with the baffles out noisier than their puny megaphone exhausts aswell lol Unfortunately i had to get the piston ring slots enlarged to fit modern rings and after about 500 miles a hole blew in it ,no www then just a phone book and trader magazines and i couldnt dsource a new one so it was sold for its plates and it was replaced by a reliant regal ,now theres a ride ¡¡¡

  9. I'm seriously thinking about an e-bike, to make the trips a bit easier. But if I do, it'll be a bit more powerful than is strictly legal. Hey, if it's good enough for the ginger fisherman...

  12. I've had a slight improvement with my back recently, but my knee is still wrecked, and my walking ability is a few tens of meters on a good day, so about the only exercise I can manage is cycling. I honestly thought it was three miles to the pool, but in actually, it was almost five, so I was ruined when I got home. It was however nice to get out and catch a few fish. The skateboard backpack that I ordered from China worked great for the chair, the landing net and the rods, but the bag with the reels, kit and bait was a pain. Hopefully, I've solved that by ordering a chest bag, and I'll put together some very limited kit to keep the weight down. If I can get some exercise, get out of the house and catch a few fish this year, I'll be a happy boy.

  13. When i go (and its damn rare nowadays) its just one rod and a landing net and tackle divided into my coat and a small shoulder bag . Its very satisfying and it completes a circle as thats how it all started and over the years got complicated with 4 complete seat boxes now up in the loft along with a bivvy and one of those beach shelters and all the gubbins that go with it . The foolishness of youth has almost gone none of these 50-100 mile train trips in all weathers or walking 10 miles to fish empty pools and then the inevitable cleaning and then school or work the next day . I can look from the garden to see the weather i dont mind the cold but over 20c the inclination lessens the river is shallow and fast and the bank side weeds high and the ticks sit waiting . Glad to see your out Ken now Tigger rarely posts few are and second hand fishing rare on here to substitute for the old days when it took 95% of my thoughts ,my favourite ponds are far away a few no longer exist but the memories abound . Just reminded me of going fishing on the coast on a whim on the honda 90 ,the fricking brand new rod holdal refused to hang vertically and insisted on sitting horizontally which ofcourse became a bloody sail and not only slowed me down by at least 10 miles an hour it nearly sawed through my throat .I got to half way adjustted the holdal and seatbox for the 30th time then gave in and came home .Back in the 70`s i had a scooter and side car me and my mate chucked everything in the side car after getting home from the pub then buggered off to the coast and fished as dawn broke (the damn whim and pub bit usually meant we got there at low tide) but 5 gallons of bullmers traditional filled the gaps along with the lack of fish .sometimes simple is better but so is youth! at 70 theres more planning to find excuses to sit in your garden drinking and remembering instead of actually going .my son is far away ,my mates mostly dead ,metal detecting is a lone hobby but having a laugh catching tiddlers best with company .

  14. That's It Dave - you're Egg-bound!!! Maybe try just 2 scrambled eggs, the English way with about a 1/4 pint of whole milk (nearly typed milf there) & 2 or 3 slices of buttered toast, salt & white pepper. Stand there & do it in a saucepan, (no, not that!!) stirring constantly - not that Microwave Sh*te method. Looks like 4 eggs when it's on the plate.

  15. They look great, Martin. Do they get used? Not many folks seem to post these days - but I still get dozens (sometimes 100s!) of views a day on my blog - so the boards are still getting visited!

  18. Reference buzzards. Yesterday I was watching the newts in my pond when I was disturbed by some seagulls getting agitated overhead. Looking up I saw a pair of buzzards circling and being mobbed by about half a dozen gulls. While watching I saw a red kite come for a look at what was causing all the noise. The buzzards just drifted away and the kite followed them. Nice to see it's still around, I just wonder if it nests in our area as there are some good trees nearby. Some good news on the newt front. Due to the recent warm and sunny weather, the newts are spending more time in the warmer top water and are spawning well. Well, the pond weed is later this year so I've had to "improvise" with some dried reeds which I grow in and by the pond. I've broken some of the longer stems off and laid them on the surface and there was some spawn in the leaves when I checked this morning. When I went for a look this evening with a torch I was pleasantly surprised to see I've gained a female GCN, so I now have 3. She must have hatched 3 years ago before the cat/pond disaster and lived on land around the pond under the log or leaf pile. She is slightly smaller than the other two so it must be her 1st year of spawning. She should help the gene pool a bit. Just need some frog and toad spawn to complete the amphibian family. I was told of some frog spawn that had been put in a ditch but when I looked for it there was nothing to see, fox or ducks probably had a feast. Well, I'll end on a high note for a change. Some more good news. My wife came out to see the newts by torchlight after her night out at the cinema with my sister and niece and we spotted yet another female GCN, this one was a younger one, probably 3 years old and her first spawning, this now makes the numbers up to 4 females so all good so far. I'd not seen her in the pond before so she may have been hibernating under the log or leaf pile and the recent sun has awoken her. I had a young GCN given to me by a neighbour today, her cat brought it in, unharmed, it was last years hatch so I suppose with all the rain it had traveled far from my pond but it went in without a problem, too young to tell what sex it is. The next problem is Daphna to feed them when they hatch as most of my "green water" that I breed them in has been seriously diluted with all the rain so it will be an "expensive year" again. Look on the bright side Norman, the pond is looking healthy and full of life since the disaster. Fingers crossed.

  19. My top time saving tip is very simple, lots of recipes call for boiling water but when I watch the kettle it seems to never boil! So I fill the kettle with water and wait for the click, then, when you have your boiling water place it in a suitable container and then freeze it, then when you need boiling water just take it out and bingo! **note** I’m not allowed in the kitchen very often.

  20. I am a compulsive sorter and a just in case person. Rather than forgetting things I now have several complete sets of tackle which contains everything needed ,long gone are the days of borrowing bits from a box and forgetting to put it back and raging on the bank. If I go carp fishing everything I need is in one big box and rod bag ,everything needed for piking is in another holdal and seatbox and my tiddler bashing stuff is in another .Sea fishing is the same one complete set for shore and one for boat. It's getting so bad even my metal detectors have their own set in their carrying bags (digger ,finds bag and pinpointer)and every ordinary bag I have has a set of painkillers bog roll and plasters and a silicone folding cup for the pain killers to fizz into (effervescent co-codamols)" just in case" I know if I grab a bag for anything everything is there and believe me if I use anything it's not put away until it's replaced . Tidying my shed is a different matter to get something put away I need to move something else so it goes round and round first clearing one part by cluttering up another ,I love sorting things into boxes but those boxes take up space I just don't have Just in case works ,we didn't need to buy anything ifood wise n the first lock down for two months (we had enough for 6) because I had stockpiled food "just in case" .hopefully there's another one or the year or so stockpiled will taste yucky when it's needed lol not gone as far as sorting the food store how would you do it by name or can colour it's not simple
