  1. I'm looking for the UK distributor of Gabrolino, was wondering if anyone knows a web address or telephone number? Specifically I'm after a Gabrolino David Dubriel Resurrection Spinning Rod 2.4m, its a rod designed for the French market but I was hoping someone who deals with them might be able to get hold of one. Thanks in advance!
  2. How about a reintroduction? Burbot - the freshwater cod. Mind you would probably be fished out within minutes by certain unscrupulous anglers.
  3. 've been having a pretty hard time of it piking recently so you'll have to excuse my excitement. After a very long hard and blank 6 hours chucking everything but the kitchen sink at the river last night I decided to have a go at one last spot by weir near a bridge. Bouncing a 3inch Storm roach along the bottom very slowly resulted in a few nips on the lure but no hookups. I added a 2/0 stinger and hooked into what felt like a log, I nearly lost my breakfast when a few minutes later I saw it was a perch. After an interesting moment on my stomach in a patch of nettles leaning into the the river and nearly falling in I somehow managed to land it. I didn't have scales, camera, landing net or tape measure so I made a mark on my rod of its length - just under 17 inches long and very tubby, almost 2/3rds deep as it was long. Anyone have any ideas how much this could have weighed? I have never caught one anything close to this size would be interested to know if there is some sort of approximation of weight possible? I will be taking scales in future!
  4. If anyone has ever read anything Mike Ladle ever wrote they would have picked up this old hat about 15 years ago. Sorry mate but it is complete nonsense.

    Lures

Can guarantee the toby and j13 will get the most mention however there are hundreds that will catch, its fun to try new things.
  6. I am going to have a go with with one of these in the big size when the mackerel are in. you never know!
  7. Scary! hope he looks behind him soon. Great photo.
  8. Great fish. Well done for returning it but try not stuffing your fist up its gills not the best way for a long and happy life Hope one day I can manage one like that on a lure.
  9. There are of lures similar to pipefish. Been using them since the 80's!
  10. You know its not illegal to rinse your lures in freshwater after use?
  11. Had a crack at that this afternoon. Not a sniff...
  12. I was thinking of having a go when the water warms up a bit, has anyone tried it? got any tips? Here's a photo of some nutter doing it in America
  13. Cheers. When it comes to mullet and bass I do know my 'arse from my elbow' so to speak having caught and observed both species. I am a bit of a lure fanatic and rarely get round to fishing with bait so the mullet generally remain safe, although I did go through a phase of catching thin lips. On another similar note had another frustrating session today, spent a good hour fruitlessly casting into a truly massive shoal of sand eels being nailed from all directions and not inspiring a nibble, despite using lures that work well in the past for bass and mackeral. I could even feel my plug bouncing off fish! Thought I was sure they were sand eels as the diving birds were coming up with gobs full of small slim looking creatures but maybe they were just baby mullet...
  14. Just a quick question on mullet identification. Was plugging for bass today at my local beach which is probably one of the most rough and exposed in the British Isles but today was dead calm and crystal cear water. Could see a what looked like a group of tails appear above the surface, very close together circling and sort of thashing about along a weed line. There were definately a few fish tight together feeding with their noses down and occasionally rolling. Chucked everything but the kitchen sink without a pluck. Due to the low light and glare I couldn't actually see into the water to make out whether they were mullet or bass. I thought mullet preferred sheltered areas like estuaries and back bays. What do you think, uncooperative early season bass or mullet?
  15. cheers for the tip, unfortunately he has stopped selling
  16. I have seen prices for 20lb vary from £20 to £38 for 300yds from fairly reputable suppliers. Not sure about ebay though, I probably wouldn't buy line from there unless I knew the vendor was ok.
  17. I'm looking for somewhere that has 15lb power pro at a reasonable price (around £20) in the UK. Does anyone know somewhere that might have some? Cheers
  18. I had a go today in the far west of Cornwall, not a mackeral to be seen and no one fishing near me caught any either. Should have been perfect for them too, light onshore breeze nice and sunny, full flooding tide... Oh well.

  20. Tried them in green and white laminate and blue black not had a sniff. You can't cast them very far, think it ruins their action to use a jig head but hey you might do better than me! There are a lot of way more effective plastics out there.
  21. In that case I would probably advise trying with the shortest fast action rod they currently have. Also would say you should state for the sake of the pike that if there is any question at all of them being present whether they are being targeted or not that a wire leader must be used.
  22. I have been using this, was accidentally sent some for free. I don't think it starts a farts chance in a tornado against a decent pike though so have given up using it. It does almost float but then the thought of leaving my lovely vision oneten in a pike is too much to bear.
  23. Thanks for the tips, will look into buying from abroad but the price is little prohibitive. I need the length for the practical reasons of getting lighter lures out into a stiff wind on the north Cornish coast as well as being able to steer fish round rocks through gullies etc. Believe it or not I did go through a phase of using a 6ft spinning rod but it was too short to be practical.
  24. My husky jerks and lucky craft pointers all head south with a 12inch 20lb leader on 20lb braid.
  25. Thanks for the welcome, its not that I am anti avon! Just that you could use almost anything else but and it would probably work better. I was making the point that the rod I have is probably not perfect, just a cheapo telespin and a little soggy but its short length and low cost means this doesn't matter too much as well as being a hell of a lot of fun to land 8lb pike with. On a similar theme I am currently using a beaten up old carp rod to plug for bass. Not a tackle snob at all its just a case of not turning some poor sod off completely when he attempts to 'finesse' an unweighted senko with 13ft of glass.
