  1. quote: They are electric and the battery would probably be flat before it had managed to get through the melon skins. Sorry corydoras, but electric they aren't. They are powered by a 3-cylinder petrol suprex turbo engine of 698 cc with charge cooling, which produces either 50bhp or 61bhp.

  7. Dizidave, a footplate is an absolute must,so that you can sit with your knees bent at right angles (90 degrees)if you don't want to end up with cronic back ache.
  8. Tony. The reason fisheries are banning Mustad Method Feeder hooks is that size for size they are quite a bit larger than most other hooks. IE:If the fishery states that the largest hook to be used is a size 12, then a Mustad Method hook in a size 12 is closer to a size 8 in most other patterns.
  9. Friday 12th April 1974. I was 19 when i first met Barry Sheene in the paddock at Brands Hatch. I'd gone up to watch the Transatlantic Trophy,a series of match races between Britain and America. 9am wandering around the paddock admiring all the bikes........ John Player Nortons,Kawasakis ,Triumphs etc,but the real attraction was the debut's of the new Suzukis & Yamahas in the hands of Barry Sheene & Kenny Roberts. So there i was in the paddock when i'm flattened by some idiot running into me on a monkey bike!!!!!!!!!!Anyway he gets off the bike and helps me back up and it's Barry apologising profusely and trying to dust me down.He took me back to his caravan, made me a tea offered me a Gauloise..uuuuuugh, signed my programme and gave me a pair of his race gloves. Here's the page he signed, quite a rare photo as it shows him with a number 17 plate as opposed to his famous number 7...... Subsequently i met him a number of times over the years,at various tracks, and even had the pleasure of being driven round Snetterton by him in the Toyota Supra that he raced in the British Touring Car Championship after he packed in bikes. He always remained the same happy cheerfull bloke despite his success. A true Superstar who will be sorely missed. [ 11. March 2003, 12:09 AM: Message edited by: peter morton ]

  11. Hi Nurse Judy, The main thing is to make sure that your cupping kit is the same length as the rest of your top kits for feeding accuracy.
  12. A Very emotive subject. Two years ago i lost my mother to Pancreatic Cancer,She was always a fiercly independant person and had watched her own mother fade away from Motor Neurone Disease some 25 years previously. She resolved to make a Living Will, making her feelings known on the matter. Although this is not regarded as a legal document in this country, she was determined that people would be made aware of her feeling should a time come when she could not comunicate them herself. She had this document drawn up with the help of her Solicitor, and copies made for her GP, consultant, Nursing home and a copy for me to show to a doctor should she be admitted to hospital. The following is a copy of the draft of that document........... TO MY FAMILY,MY DOCTOR AND ALL OTHER PERSONS CONCERNED THIS DIRECTIVE is made by me (insert name & address) at a time when i am of sound mind and after careful consideration. I DECLARE that if at any time the following circumstances exist namely (1) I suffer from one or more of the conditions mentioned in the schedule; and (2) I have become unable to participate effectively in decisions about my medical care; and (3) my attending physician and one other physician (one of them being a consultant) are independantly of the opinion that i am unlikely to recover from illness or impairment involving severe distress or incapacity for rational existence; THEN AND IN THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES MY DIRECTIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS:- 1. that i am not subjected to any medical intervention or treatment aimed at prolonging or sustaining my life; 2. that any distressing symtoms (including any caused by lack of food or fluid) are to be fully controlled by appropriate analgesic or other treatment, even though that treatment may shorten my life. I consent to anything proposed to be done or omitted in compliance with the directions expressed above and absolve my medical attendants from any civil liability ariasing out of such acts or omissions. I wish it to be understood that i fear degeneration and indignity far more than i fear death. I ask my medical attendants to bear this statement in mind when considering what my intentions would be in any uncertain situation. I RESERVE the right to revoke this DIRECTIVE at any time, but unless i do so it should be taken to represent my continuing directions, I realise that if a time comes when the above circumstances exist, I may no longer be capable of revoking this directive. SCHEDULE A. Advanced disseminated malignant disease. B. Severe immune deficiency. C. Advanced degenerative disease of the nervous system. D. Severe and lasting brain damage due to injury, stroke, disease or other cause. E. Senile or pre-senile dementia, whether Alzheimer's, multi-infract or other. F. Any other condition of comparable gravity. Signed............................... Date.................................. WE TESTIFY that the above named signed this Directive in our prsence, and made it clear to us that he/she understood what it meant. We do not know of any pressure being brought on him/her to make such a directive and we believe it was made by his/her own wish. So far as we are aware we do not stand to gain from his/her death. Witnessed by: 1. Signature Name Address 2. Signature Name Address xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Wether this document was of any help in her final days must remain a matter of conjecture. The one thing that is certain is that she passed peacefully in her sleep and free from pain 3 days after being rushed to hospital in a very distressed state as the fight against her cancer proved too much.
  13. Right Danny, If there are any boats moored up on the opposite bank fish up to these as tight as you can,as fish can often shelter under them. If it is a narrowboat with a lit stove (have a look at its chimney ) it may even warm the water by a degree or two, making it more attractive to the fish. If there are no boats look for a feature.A far bank bush or even a large tuft of overhanging grass may be enough to act as shelter to encourage a fish. First off get your plummet out and see if you can find a shelf,(Most canals have them within 2 metres from the bank) Pot in some bait at the top of the shelf and some more at the base of the shelf where it starts to level out into the main boat channel. Use a small Kinder Cup on your top kit, just a pinch of feed ,you don't want to overdo it at this time of year. As for bait at this time of year, you wont go far wrong with chopped worm & caster. Set the depth so that the bait is fished at either dead depth or a couple of inches over. Shot the float down as far as you can and still see it. If you are using worm on the hook break one end off to allow the juices to flow and keep lifting the rig about 8-10 inches and letting it settle back,as this can sometimes provoke a response from a fish (especialy Perch) that was undecided about taking the bait.
  14. As Dunk said, quote: Just out of interest, have a look at the website for Clapham Angling Preservation Society (i've not got the actual link address to hand, but if you do a search, you'll be OK). Its an example of what CAN be done, to convert waters such as you describe, into something special. Here it is CAPS

  16. Merry Christmas Everyone. quote: In the US, where American is properly spoken, it is "MERRY" Christmas and "HAPPY" New Year! And i always thought that in America they say "HAPPY HOLIDAYS" for fear of upsetting non believers.

  21. Karcher, Not cheap but just about the best there is. Talking about the professional steam cleaning models though, not the DIY pressure washers.
  22. My line casts over the water, and dances like a song, so gently breaks the surface, It's here where I belong. As breathing comes so effortless, my spirit is in tune, with the smell of the water and nature's sweet perfume. Standing at the waters edge, is where I want to be, Hooking the fish don't matter, not very much to me. Until I feel that little tug pulling at my line, then the finest sport there is, no longer is so sublime. My breathing starts to quicken, my heart beats faster too, precision is important now, in all things that I do. A fisherman that's what I am, and think I'll always be, Take me to the waterside, and fish a bit with me! The last time i saw Trev, was when Geoff & I had the pleasure of sharing a punt with him at Old Bury Hill. Trev had read one of my posts about the place and decided that he fancied a go at it.Geoff hearing of this decided that he wanted to recapture his youth (having last fished there some 20 years previously) So thats how the three of us came to be standing by the boat house at 7am one july day in the pouring rain. Out we ventured in the punt on a search for Trev's first tench of the season. The omens didn't look too good and while Geoff and i both caught all Trev had to show for his efforts were a couple of hooked fish that smashed him. Undaunted we kept at it and even the weather took a turn for the better, and then it happened,Trev's float sailed away and after a brief fight there nestling in the bottom of the landing net was his prize. Not a big fish by any standards, but looking at the smile on his face I just knew that it didn't matter.Mission Accomplished Trev,It's been a priveledge and a pleasure to have known you,and i'm sure you'll be looking over our shoulders in the future and having a chuckle at some of our antics. Rest in Peace. Our heartfelt condolences to Elaine & Family. Peter & Maria. [ 19. October 2002, 05:45 PM: Message edited by: peter morton ]
