  1. The pathetic wriggling and whining of die hard Republicans that just can't accept that Obama got elected, is becoming very tiring. When Bush was making a fool of himself and his country, all the Republicans were saying, "we should support the POTUS (I thought POS was a better abbreviation) regardless of our political views", its a pity they can't apply the same principle to Obama. He's young, gifted and black, get over it.
  2. The newspapers showed pictures of a couple of 20ft boats pulling a cable across the entrances, its more a "token" blockage, rather than loads of boats physically moored across the entrances. Most of the French fishermen will be in the bars, or combing their nose hair.
  3. Operation Stack is a scandal. The impact on the local population is immense and has to be suffered to be believed. Why can't they stop the HGV's at other staging car parks on their way to Dover/Folkestone ? That way they could spread the load around. Instead they shut the M20 southbound from Maidstone to Folkestone, get the catering vans out, the inadequate porta loos (lemonade bottles filled with urine and toilet paper on the verges amongst all the other rubbish created), cones and extra Police , all at a great cost to the Kent County Council tax payers.
  4. As I was reading this line, I was measuring my thumb.
  5. This appears as "optional" on quite a few forms. I always complete it with as much imagination regarding my ethnicity as I can manage. On my fishing licence application I decided to be "chinese".
  6. I have no comment on the alleged brutality, but what irritates me is that the media has been awash with the dead man family (especially his son) making all the demands for the truth, the "pieces to the jigsaw" and stating what a well loved man their father/husband was. The man is described as, "a homeless alcoholic who occasionally watched a newspaper stand" (not exactly a newsagent). Where were his family when he obviously needed their help ? I think they have been blinded by the £££££££ signs of some nice comp courtesy of the Met.
  7. Some nice pictures. I remember when we use to get 20lb cod off the Kent coast.
  8. Sportsman, I would have expected a much more considered and articulate response than that from you. I honestly believe that my money and time was making no impact at all. Even when I was in the countries, I could see no real or lasting benefit from what I did. Why therefore should I throw more good money after bad ? If you have a lasting solution, then lets hear it, don't just berate me for being honest.
  9. Why not cut off all aid to these countries, then no money could disappear into Swiss bank accounts. It would then be up to the population to rise up and overthrow their leaders. At what point do we have to say, "its nothing to do with us". Before the usual suspects leap all over me, I have given generously of my money and time to help people overseas less well off than me. However, I made the decision about the time that Live Aid and Band Aid started up to stop doing this, as I saw the complete waste of the huge sums of money raised by these events and the lack of a lasting solution.
  10. Eventually I purchased Internet Download Manager 5.15 (although you can have it free for a limited time) and I am very pleased with it.
  11. After you have watched one series, they all become boring. Same old, same old. You can get easily overdosed on stormy seas and broken down trucks.
  12. I stopped "cold turkey" about 12 years ago and it was one of the best things I have done in my life. Having patches, inhalers or tablets seems to be "cheating" to me some how and I think it just extends the "giving up" process.
  13. Surely, real rough, tough, hard men go "cold turkey" when they stop smoking, no cissy tablets for them............................................................ just saying.
  14. It sounds as though Martin is lined up for a nice little earner when he retires.......................Chairman of the Angling Trust ?
  15. Oooooops. I agreed to help a chap move a shed many years ago, it was 30ftx20ft and took four of us two days.
  16. Some of the smaller Channel wrecks are difficult to drift, unless the tide and wind are just right. Often its more productive to anchor uptide and then drop back on them to fish baits. A lot of fishing time can be wasting by "just missed it" drifting.
  17. I think most peoples negative attitude to Goodwin's pension is fired by envy, rather than a considered evaluation of the reponsibilities of a Chief Executive and his actual role in international economic events.
  18. I am not sure if you can justify torture for some instances, but not for others. Surely its one of those "Yes or No" principles. I think like the death penalty it appears justified sometimes, but the "Authorities" are so useless at getting things right, most people don't feel comfortable with giving them the responsibility to make the right decsion. Difficult scenarios do emerge however. Would it have been better to have tortured a few Iraqis to find out whether Saddam really had WMD, or do what we did and invade and kill loads of innocent civilians just to prove he didn't ?
  19. The version I am using is 3.07. I have just downloaded "Down them all", which is a Download Manager Add-On and I don't like that very much.
  20. I am using Firefox, I will look to see if there is an Add-On.
  21. I have been suffering broadband disconnections whilst downloading lately, so I decided to install a Download Manager that would reconnect the downloads if interupted. I installed Free Download Manager, but I couldn't work out how to access the file after I had downloaded, so I uninstalled it. I also tried a couple of other free Download Managers, but my AVG system warned me about Trojans so I never installed them, one was Orbit. Now, I can't download anything unless I do nothing else while its downloading. I use to have the standard download box appear, which I minimised and went on to do something else on the PC. What I get now is just a "note" on the right hand side of the taskbar saying ie. "1 download in progress", if I move away from that screen, the download stops. Does anyone know how to get my PC's Download Manager back and can anyone recommend a "clean" easy to use Download Manager ?
  22. If all the "comedians" and "rock stars" donated money from their vast incomes, we would not need to suffer the cringing self congratulation they trot out during the Comic Relief, or "Live Aid" circus. Most of the "performers" are indebted to these occasions for kick starting their fading careers. I doubt they would be too keen to dip too deeply into their own pockets.
  23. Posted on behalf of a friend; As you may have heard in the local press, 5 Harris Hawks were stolen on the night of the 10th March 2009 from Sion Hill Hall Birds of Prey and Conservation Centre, Thirsk. 5 Harris Hawks in total; 4 males and 1 female (this included a breeding pair). Everyone at the centre is really truly gutted about it but our main priority is having the birds safely returned, as they mean alot to us. The birds are used for demonstrations, hawk walks and courses and are not hunting birds which the thieves may be trying to sell them as. One of the males has a distinctive eyebrow and a lump on his leg, just above the leather anklet. If anyone has any information (i.e. have been offered the birds cheaply with no-questions asked) or any information at all please feel free to contact me at the centre on; 01845 587 522 / mail@falconrycentre.co.uk or call North Yorkshire Police on 0845 60 60 24 7 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 Thank you very much Hopefully we can have the birds returned safe and sound soon, Matt Falconry UK Ltd. www.falconrycentre.co.uk
  24. I think you would find a great number were in both camps.
