    REDi

something to do with the light spectrum and red being the first colour to disappear when the light fails to reach certain depths in the water.
  2. Could do with a few more of them on the Thames to clear up the Mitten Crabs and Crayfish!
  3. this is your goal for the season. Land that chub!
  4. I would have been too scared to trot a float right down into that mess! props to you for going for it and you got your reward!
  5. well you wouldn't have known unless you gave it a go! I havent fished a match since the annual juniors one on the wey navigation. they held it on august bank holiday every year. the last time i rememeber catching 1 roach of abuot 10oz, enough to win my section lol but my dad missed the keepnet ;_____;
  6. I saw the Tight Lines feature this morning, and it seemed that the bright blue toy whale and the bright yellow ball attached to the line (weighing 9oz) didn't spook the chub and barbel at all. It was as soon as the chub moved off with the bait, shifting the weight and the line off the bottom that spooked them. About fluoro, because it's invisible (or near) underwater, when a fish rubs against it they can feel it but not see it, spooking them. with braid or mono which is more visible they know it's there so when they rub against it they won't be spooked! There was a lot of really good info on this programme, especially the tidbit about chub "crunching" when feeding, which attracts the barbel in. They share a swim as well, none of this barbel bullying the chub out. There were little minnows swimming in between them as well!
  7. Would be interested depending on location and date...I'm always nervous when Pike fishing so I've just stopped altogether now before someone (or somefish) got hurt. Still managed a 20 though
  8. Mass Debates eh? I'm a pro at that! I'm scared.
  9. i lolled.. I've caught the cliché old boot and hubcaps, and the odd plastic carrier bag which go some!
  10. Ian didn't know anyone listened to talkSport here! Amazing radiostation... Arthur has a show on weekend mornings, good to listen to as you're getting ready to go fishing!
  11. I pay £2.40 for a pint of them, very clean and a nice feeding spot on them.
  12. It feels like I haven't even achieved anything this year yet! Been trying half heartedly for Barbel the past couple of months but still none to my name...one day I'll catch one (or even get a bite ¬_¬) Looking forward to chubbing in the snow....that's what I look forward to most in the season. Must be because i'm english :S Can't wait for the Perch to pile on the lbs and hopefully catch another 2lber There's so much to do it seems the autumn and winter is when I really get into my fishing!
  13. Only 3 visits? I've been trying for them on about 50 odd visits this season and nothing but bloody bream xD

    unusual catch

Did it put up a good fight!?! Never caught one before. My strangest catch was a rainbow trout from the Wey Navigation canal ledgering with maggots!
  15. top tip Andy, thanks off to go stalk some postmen now
  16. If you have a nice reflexive float rod, then you can afford a lighter hooklength, I use 3lb chamaeleon for my hooklengths, about £6 I think for 100yards. You can get pre-tied hook to nylons that go lower, but the loops they have are pretty ugly and big. I've not had many problem catching tench with them though!
  17. ok now im confused...i thought laying on was casting the rig so the terminal tackle and float hit the water in a line and then drop down naturally...
  18. I understand "laying on", and a lot of the time it works, it's just when I strike and miss bited (yeah I suck still) is when it seems to tangle up on itself. I read somewhere that the shot should be set out ina specific way so that they won't tangle around each other. I think the idea was to increase the distance between the shot as you go up from the hook, so as they swing round they're not catching on the one above it. does that make sense?
  19. Cant go far wrong with a bag of pigeon feed either! Lasts ages.
  20. I only really use them to keep my worm on the hook
  21. i think he's doing what i used to - feed the feeder straight onto the mainline and put 2 shot either side of it to lock it in place. you're probably snagging something bringing it back and as it's unable to move up the line, its snapping the line by the feeder. either get a snap swivel and some rig tube or use a patenoster
  22. have you tried putting them in the fridge/freezer?
  23. I supposed you could make them pop up as well if you trap it with something buoyant?
  24. Not really very well...usual suspects on the bream front (open end feed with fishmeal groundbait, pellet or fake corn), a few nice roach have been coming out near Weybridge and the odd Barbel near Desborough Island. If you want to go sometime, PM me and I'll see if I'm free
  25. what area of runnymede? does staines and the surrounding area count as this? if so it's up with a lot of debris =/
