  1. I know the story that you are referring to as I saw the headlines on the news last evening, I haven't clicked onto the link as I know that I too will be appalled and angered by what I will probably find there. I am not burying my head in the sand but after reading stories like this one over the past number of years I find that they only serve to make me as mad as hell. I will however proffer some sort of explanation regarding the senseless lack of regard that some of the young perpetrators of these heinous crimes show to their often helpless victims. I believe that the sort of kids who do these things live in a fantasy world governed by violent computer games and films, added to that music with lyrics filled with guns and crime. I don't believe for one moment that any kid is born evil but over only a few short years they can become so given the right circumstances.
  2. I have bought Pike and Predator since the start of the year and find the articles both well written and interesting.
  3. 40 years ago I swam in the river Nene in Northampton on more than one occasion thinking back it was very dangerous as the water was icy cold more than 3 foot down, the river looks the same today but I'm too old for that sort of thing now. I have also had a plunge in the local cut but soon got out as there was 2 foot of water at the edge and 3 foot of mud. I was a silly bugger as a kid wonder how I survived so long.
  4. The petition is gaining pace but I'm sad to see that as always some have added stupid names trying to spoil the good work of others.
  5. Can't see the point of a closed season myself life's too short for closed seasons, of course for anyone who hankers for the 'good old days' then by all means feel free not to fish but for me I fish when I like, and I like when I fish.
  6. I'm addicted to buying kit (all the gear and no idea) the credit crunch shouldn't effect any shop that I have in my favorites list.
  7. I bought a couple of TFG carp rods I'll let you know what they are like when they arrive.
  8. Has anyone ever ordered anything from the Devon angling centres web site and if so what was the service like/how long did it take for the goods to arrive?
  9. I like the quality of the filming very professional looking, the fish were in good condition too. I'll give you 9/10 for effort. Excuse la traducción. Tengo gusto de la calidad de la mirada muy profesional de la película, los pescados estaba en buenas condiciones también. I' el ll le da 9/10 para esfuerzo.
  10. Great news, well done to all over there that kept the faith.
  11. The most that I have ever spent in a shop is £450 for a Fox Stax box and a Maver pole plus a few other odds, not the top of the range stuff but good enough to get me started. The thing is I had to travel 45 miles round trip to buy it so strictly speaking it isn't my local shop but having said that it is a local shop in the town 22 miles away from me. If I had brought the kit at my local shop I would have paid £200 more for it, I know that if my local shop shuts down then I will have to travel in theory 45 miles for maggots but then again there was no way that I could justify spending £200 more than I needed to by shopping locally. If local shops want to survive then they must be as competitive as they can be.
  12. My local shop has a good selection of kit but even then they can't stock everything. I have never spent more than £45 in there as his main items, rods, reels, poles, boxes, e.t.c. tend to be at manufactures recommended prices. I saw a rod £10 cheaper in a shop in a nearby town and they aren't renowned for discounting, so if they can do it why can't my local shop? I would rather buy locally but I can't justify paying over the odds for the same thing that I can get from the Internet.
  13. Thanks for the information I have done what you suggested and it's back to normal, it was driving me mad having to open every post one at a time. This is back to being the best angling site on the Internet. Thanks again!
  14. This is a great web site but since the format changed whereby I have to click on every post one by one in any given topic it has lessened it's appeal. Is there a way that after selecting a topic I can open all of the posts rather than having to open each one individually?
  15. And the soldier ants, at first I thought why don't the villagers splat them and then I saw how they benefited from the ants aggression against the other pests that the villagers wanted eradicated. Very nearly symbiosis.
  16. I saw it a very interesting programme if not a bit stomach churning, especially the bit about catching midges for protein in Africa. Makes you realise how fortunate we in the west are when we only have to visit the burger bar when we fancy a burger. It did cross my mind when I saw the fish leaping into the boats that they would soon dispense of the problem if they had their fair share of migrant workers from the east of Europe.
  17. Thanks for the info Kleinboet I just wanted to know if they were a trustworthy outfit and from what you say they sound like they are worth a try. Thanks again.
  18. Came across lobby's tackle online shop today and it looks like they have some bargains. The only thing is that I tend to only use sites that I am sure that I can trust, so does anyone know of, or better still has used the shop/site? Thanks!
  19. Sea eagles, beavers, what next shark's up the Thames?
  20. Has anyone got any good deals in the sales on fishing related items? I have been looking at a rod which was already discounted by an online store but while I was pondering over the purchase they put the price up by £6. I keep trawling the net though as I am a complete sucker for a deal, so come on you tackle company's start discounting!
  21. Apparently the new Angling Trust will be offering specialist insurance deals for members in the future. One question that I have is can you insure fishing kit if you don't have a receipt? So many shops don't issue a detailed receipt when you buy kit.
  22. I hope that you will forgive me if I give a view on this subject as I am new to angling and know nothing of its past politics. In fact it appears to me as a newcomer that angling as a pastime would do better if it could avoid politics altogether. However it is true I suppose that in this day and age we are faced with the situation whereby if you don't have a strong voice then you are in danger of being ignored. If the new angling trust is to succeed at all then as many anglers as possible must join, which direction and how influential it will become is yet to be seen but if it fails to get off of the ground because of lack of funding we will never know. I think that as many anglers as it is possible should bite the bullet, spend £20 and at least see how it goes. If in 12 months we are dissatisfied with the way the organisation is going then I'm sure that enough of us will vote with our wallets, and that is something that the angling trust will not be able to ignore.
  23. I know that it doesn't seem worth it and that the police won't take this seriously at all but you really should report it because this cretin might do it again and the police need to be made aware that this nonce is out there. It is worth reporting mate why should you or anyone else have to put up with this sort of thing.
  24. Anyone bought the Shimano Forcemaster Limited Edition Rod and Reel Pack containing Forcemaster 12ft 2.75lb Playing Action- Baitrunner Aero 6000 RE - Forcemaster 12lb Mono- Limited Edition Ready Rod Sleeve. Retailing at £99 but I have seen them for £75. Is the pack any good and is it good value for money? Just a thought if I have any money left after Christmas and if they have any left of course.
