  1. Just keep on trying Ant and I am sure that you will. Good Luck, Bill
  2. Thanks for the information Leon and Jim it certainly does make you wonder what the future has in store. Remember that the scientific horror of myxamotosis came from Australia. Cheers all, Bill
  3. Hi Ray and welcome. Very good info from Julian and more up-to-date than I could give you. I was a member of Farnham AC some 40 years ago and have some good memories of those days. T wo of the waters they had were Farnham Lodge which was a lovely lake in forestry land which was an excellent carp and tench water and a very nice stretch of the River Lodden near Arborfield. I have also just recalled that they had the rights on Frensham Ponds. Alas, old age starts to make the memory a bit misty and I can't remember what other waters I fished in those days. Anyway Ray they were and I'm sure they still are a good club. I wish you the best of luck and good fishing. Cheers Mate Bill
  4. I think that seems about the right price. I have booked Dover/Calais in April 04 and am paying £158 for a 14 day return with estate car plus 2 passengers. I was told the fare will probably have risen if booking is left till then. I have booked 2 weeks at Castaway Lake (thanks Elton). Where are you going? All the best Bill
  5. Just spent a very pleasant time browsing through the website and it crtainly brought back a lot of memories. Jack had such a nice personality that even some of my acquaintences who had no real interest in fishing or other country pursuits would never willingly miss a programme. Well worth a browse. Cheers All Bill
  6. I always wondered what PUMPING IRON meant. Cheers All Bill
  7. Thought I would spend 10 minutes and nearly an hour later (0210) thought it was time for bed. Managed 534.57 on a fair throw and 554.22 on a foul. Not bad for an OAP. Good fun though. Cheers, Bill
  8. In that case Alan, he should retire at once. I'm just off fishing for 10 days, its a tough old life. Cheers Bill
  9. Blimey Newt, with jokes like that you should take up fishing.. Cheers and keep em coming. Bill
  10. Hi John, Seems you are no having much help with your request. Just a thought, but have you tried looking on e-bay auction net?? Good luck and I hope you find something soon. Cheers Bill
  11. An Irishman, 6' 6" and 20 stone was sitting at the bar quietly drinking and minding his own business when in walked a smart lttle guy who was very very obviously gay. He sat on the next stool to Paddy and after a couple of large gin and tonics, plucked up courage, leaned over to Paddy and asked in a whisper "would you like a blow job?" Paddy grabbed him by the scruff of the neck, dragged him outside and beat seven bells out of him. He then resumed his seat at the bar. The barman said "Hell Paddy I've never seen you lose your temper like that, what did he whisper to you?" "I'm not to sure " said Paddy, "but it was something about a bloody job." Cheers, Bill
  12. Many thanks Gray. This old thicky has cracked it at last. Thanks also to Koi. Cheers Bill
  13. I purchased an Intrepid Fixed Spool reel in about 1950/51. I don't know if it is now collectable or not and, if so, what is the value? Likewise with a Richard Walker Mk IV Carp Rod purchased in 1963/4. I would be grateful if anyone could give me a rough idea. Cheers Bill
  14. Well Paul, you are obviously a versatile chap if you were managing to drink a pint left handed. On a more serious note, don't worry too much about the "extra" knuckles. I promise you from experience that they do disappear. Get well soon Paul and remember that the best convalescence anyone can have is a nice bit of fishing. Cheers Bill
  15. Well you know the old saying Peter. "MONEY GOES TO MONEY" Cheers Bill
  16. Hi Saul, I would think that the answer to your question would depend very much on the quality of the natural food in the water plus the lineage of the carp concerned. You say the water is rich and not densley stocked so I would guess maybe up to 3lb. If Dr Bruno reads this I am sure he will be able to give you a more accurate answer. Cheers Bill
  17. Hi Gray, At long last I seem to have managed to get my avatar. Thankyou for your help and patience. Cheers, Bill
  18. Good article, enjoyed reading it. Cheers Bill
  19. Same as Ant said . Got loads of carp mags you would be very welcome to but they weigh fairly heavy and I imagine the shipping would be expensive. If you wouls still like them or some of them let me know. Same applies to anyone else on the net. Cheers Bill
  20. Kinda nice to have you back too Ken Cheers Bill
  21. Thanks for that Gaffer. A cracking good read. Cheers Bill
  22. WHATS WRONG WITH USING A TREBLE HOOK FOR CARPING??? Well John if you don't know the answer to that you shouldn't be fishing at all. I see you quote Mr Crabtree, who in the days he fished didin't know any better. He also advocated the use of a gaff for pike. Angling has moved on a lot since then and very much for the better as far as fish welfare is concerned. I travel all over the country for my fishing and do not know of any water on which you would not receive an immediate ban for using a treble hook. Although I do not fish for pike and perch, as far as I understand those that do no longer use a treble barbed hook for doing so. It is not my wish or intention to give lectures or to become involved in any arguements on Anglers Net but please accept my advice and DO NOT use a treble hook for carp fishing. Cheers Bill
  23. I note that Johnclarke is considering using a treble hook for carping. PLEASE DON'T DO IT. The difference between using an inch long twig and a plastic boilie stop is the SIZE. To be honest I am sometimes horrified by some of the thought I see expressed. Please everyone when fishing, think of the safety and wellbeing of the fish first, middle and last. If you can't find a way to do that then give up fishing. Cheers all Bill
