  2. Carp used to be kept for food in this country didn't they? I thought that monks kept them in stew ponds a couple hundred years back. As for the program, missed last nights, but have seen the others. It is a great program, nice to see someone living the good life ain't it? Makes you realise what life can be like.
  3. Look on the bright side. If it does hit, there will be a bloody big lake or new sea to fish in. Assuming there are any fish left. Or anglers..
  4. As the subject says, I am looking for a small boat to fish in harbour and close outside. Something a 4 - 5 hp seagull or similar will push around easily & I can row around to spin for flatties. Live on Isle of Wight, so south coast only please. Thanks

    bass spinning

Thanks. I thought I would try the harbour entrance as the tide runs in, say 2 hours before high tide and 2 after. Only problem is the speed it runs in/out at. I will let you guys know how I get on. I will give it a try next Tuesday I think
  6. Thought you already had Anglers Net mugs... US!!! Actually, I can't get to the larger picture on the collectors guild, error is: The requested URL /acatalog/images/ teeshirt.jpg.html was not found on this server. What do they say?

    bass spinning

Thanks. Quite a lot different to most of what I have got at the moment. I will give something different a try
  8. sit on my right shoulder while on my scooter, then bloody well passs me so close that I could write my name in the dirt on the side of the door then cut me up as if they are about to be run off the road by an oncoming juggernaught when there is nothing in site. Why do they assume I am only 6 inches wide and 2 inches long for god's sake? MAKES ME MAD
  9. much the same for coarse fishing, dad taught me the basics and I added the newer stuff on top. Nothing to beat sitting with the old man beside the lake chatting. (I hope my 3 kids think the same in 30 years!) Fly I taught myself, hence crap at it, but with helpful tips from other anglers, probably worried they were gonna get a viva round the back of the head! Sea fishing, books and an old friend of the family who used to take me and a friend out on his boat, again very good times. Beach fishing, self taught, using a cheap and nasty boat rod, now trying to learn as much as I can with a decent, (for me), rod and reel setup. By the way, anyone got any tips on how to cast a decent distance but still avoid overruns with a multiplier? I have almost given up and returned to the fixed spool full time again...
  10. basically, cheap is best as you get more gristle and not such good quality meat so the chunks stay on the the hook better. Oh yeah, as them up there say, keep it cool
  11. haven't tried it myself, but won't a front light for a push bike do as a portable night fishing lamp? Or perhaps mug a postman in winter ( only joking), they have nice little clip on light. (My dad was one until he retired a year or so back. )
  12. Hi people. I would like to try a bit of spinning for bass from the beach. Anyone got any good ideas? I used to do quite a lot of lure fishing for pike and I assume I can use similar techniques and the same gear. Am I best using spinners or plugs? If plugs, deep diving floaters or weighted? I tried for a while on Saturday, using green and orange spinners and a large toby lure but with no success. Thanks in advance for your advice Mark

    IOW

"Bounces" of the mainland doesn't it?
  14. 1) Nothing stopping me appearing on V Graham Norton now... 2) Does my tackle go inside or outside? p.s. You probably have to be a viewer of V Graham Norton to appreciate the sort of things some people get up to!
  15. Do you get a better smile from some species than others when you ask them to say cheese? Chub would react better I think!
  16. or maybe even sons of bluebottles? Just think, if you ask for the maggot supplier to put in a bit of food, you could order 2 pints of maggots and get 4 pints arriving, not sure about the reproduction rate of your average bluebottle though!
  17. I think you have put the rod in the rest as you have screwed up the cast and it is currently dangling off of your right ear.

    IOW

Hi people. Well I finally moved to IOW and I will be fishing shore this weekend. Anyone got any tips for hotspots at the moment? I assume the macks are in. How about bass? Tides are high, Portsmouth, 0827 & 2104 Sat, 0939 & 2207 Sun. I will dig some bait Friday lunchtime, ("working from home" ), and will hopefully get out both days for some beach work.
  19. The good doctor obviously doesn't watch Discovery Channel!
  20. Very interested to see the current stats on this one during the world cup! I am a rugby man myself, poncey overpaid gits running around like prima donnas with names like "Becks" annoy me.
  21. Surrey currently, Isle of Wight soon
  22. Oh well, 3 - 0 will just have to do eh?
