  1. A guy on my match circuit always brings a few pheasants and i normally have a brace off him which is always the cock & hen bird , not bad either for a fiver , also rabbit 3 quid and venison 4 quid per lb
  2. Yes i know what you mean , ive got a preston gis 8 and although very strong like your colmic (nice pole) its good to save them for longer work rather than the bullying needed for margin lumps. Ive been looking for a strong margin pole myself and have just about made my mind up to get the shimano beastmaster( i think!)
  3. No not to early , at a match at stubb pond 2 weeks ago a guy had 127lb fishing 2 pegs from me and id left my pellet waggler at home What i tend to do is start with a large pouch of 6mm pellets and there after just plop out 2 every 20 or 30 seconds and just keep an eye out movement and if after 30 minutes nothing then you can always cast a straight lead over the top of the feed and keep on feeding this way catching a few and if all goes to plan they will start coming up in the water and you can switch back to the waggler , this is one of my favourite tactics and can amass a huge weight very quickly when it goes right
  4. Sorry got the test curve way wrong on my neo method feeder , its 1.75lb and for chucking a heavy feeder long distances . My middy the works 10ft feeder is 1.25 tc with a lovely soft action for smaller carp and identical to the drennan series 7 10ft feeder. So as steady eddie says , stick to the 1.5lb tc as this will have a nice playing action with enough backbone for bigger fish
  5. Yes i noticed that as well Good example to newcomers Good example to alot of seasoned anglers as well i suspect
  6. If u need someone to give your cars a run then yes i suppose i can do it , i dont mind too much Have a safe journey and a wonderfull time Best wishes tony
  7. Like everyone else says no , but a banded 10mm on the pellet waggler when feeding 8mm can produce some bigger fish but as a general rule 6mm is the way to go and feeding 4mm pellets and will catch you more carp and when your catching more carp your gonna hook the occasional bigger lump . What setup were you on ie pole ,method , general ledger or waggler ?
  8. congratulations thats one hell of a benchmark to set for the rest of us AN members to beat as far as the carp category is concerned. Its also more great fish to wet the appetite for the fish-in
  9. The drennan series 7 rods are a great choice and i use the 12ft pellet waggler model all the time in summer matches and its a perfect tool for serious bagging up, it has a lovely soft playing action but with enough power to tame large carp ( my biggest carp 18lb 8oz was on this rod ) and the quality continues throughout the range so you will enjoy these. As for test curve i would go with 1/14 as this will give you a nicer playing action and will result in less bumping of fish off the hook. I use a normark neo 13 ft method feeder which is absolutely superb and this is 1/14 test curve and i use this for carp upto whatever size so you dont want any more for tench fishing in my opinion
  10. Yes i forgot about that , the last shot should be no less than 12 inches from the hook and then the rest of the shot spaced out every 1 1/2 inches towards the float . this gives a good natural fall the last 12 inches , like rudd says you can adjust this moving the last shot further away from the hook , the further away that last shot the less likelyhood of line bites and the real bites should be possitive enough anyway from the feeding frenzy . On comparison if you where fishing for finicky feeders like crucian you would have the last shot as close as 2 inches or even less from the hook and the remainder spaced 12inches away from the last shot every 1& 1/2 inches , this is called a positive set up.
  11. You can try and catch them shallow but i find the problem can get worse with more foul hooked fish , what i do apart from switching lines is to settle them by occasionally cupping in a hard squeezed ball of dampened micro pellets that sinks to the bottom before breaking up to get them feeding on the deck
  12. Its down to pole floats being much more sensitive and registering line bites by going under and looking like a real bite , this happens alot when you have them in a frenzy and you just need to cut back on the feed , you can usually tell by a lot of fizzing ( tiny bubbles) which is a good sign as it means you have a lot of fish competing but it can be a nightmare with lots of missed bites and foul hooked fish due to lifting into liners. If this starts happening i normally start up another line about 10ft away and alternate between the two and feeding the line im not using . You can amass a great weight this way after a bit of practice. Out of interest are u foul hooking fish using paste ?
  13. Are you gonna hire a mini digger for the work , it will only cost about 110 pounds for the day from wolsey centre and you will get the job done in a day
  14. I watched wonders of the universe with proffesor brian cox and found it the most interesting thing ive ever watched , the way he makes it so understandable and exciting had me and my wife hooked , its an absolute must have and i cant wait to buy the box set . You get a taster of clips on this page below . http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00zdhtg
  15. Fridays used to be curry night for me & my wife, but after a incident on the fishing match saturday that id doubt even these boxes wouldnt have dealt with we now make it a saturday night
  16. No but dont see why its not possible given the right conditions like no snags and plenty of room to play it for an hour or 2
  17. Thats 1 fish per 2 acres makes the recent 3 fish capture even more special even if they do travel in shoals
  18. I too use pondkeeper .co for my landscaping business and ive got to add that the 3 ply flexible liner is the way to go for a pond of your size as it is so easy to work with and very cheap compared to rubber liners . You do have to be very carefull when laying it out and as has been said use bare feet but most importantly be very careful where the joins in the liner run as it can be easy when walking on it to stretch and pull these apart , youve just got to be aware of where the joins are and take care , but once the pond is filled with water the sheer weight will stop these joints from ever pulling apart , just thought i would add this to put your mind at rest as the joints out of water can seem to pull apart fairly easily and cause worry but its ok once filled i promise
  19. Sorry just saw in your ebay add that your a bit further than 30miles away How much are you looking for for the milo box and how much for the drennan im8 rod . You are probably best leaving the daiwa reel to run its coarse on ebay judging by the interest shown so early on i think .
  20. Hi glad to hear u are gonna keep some stuff for yourself as it would be a shame to part with everything. I would definitely be interested in the Daiwa S2553 Reel and probably a lot more , i have a milo tardis 1000 seat box but its looking a bit tired and the clips are nearly all gone on the drawers so i might be interested in that also. Where abouts in the country are you as i could come and have a look and buy some bits if that sounds alright. I am in crawley and dont mind travelling within about 30 miles. Many thanks Tony
  21. Poles are only used in the margins for match sized carp on waters where you know the average size is about 4 to 6lb and isnt gonna go much above say 15lb . On the other hand when your fishing on waters that contain pike you never know what size your gonna get like andy says it could be 10 or 40lb so it becomes more specialist like big carp waters where you would only fish margins with heavy gear capable of controlling them ie carp rods and 12 to 15lb lines or in pike terms strong traces on heavy lines. Perch can always be caught on the pole no matter what size they might be and is an ideal tactic as you can get right in under overhanging branches with a good low resistance presentation necessary for fooling them
  22. Here is the picture of the bream , im not used to posing with a fish and didnt really hold it well
  23. its just another way of putting baits near your hook and doesnt seem that different in principle to using a stringer , and like u say dales theres nothing better than being able to add the personal touch with all the bits you want in a pva instead of being tied down to one thing. Im no specialist carp angler but it still seems to me like a lot of fuss over something not very special
  24. your right , thinking like that youd have to feel a tad unlucky to catch the smallest bream. Theres a 1 in 40 chance of hooking the smallest or the biggest ( i think theres only 40 bream there) exciting stuff the unknown
  25. I think a member of AN is gonna catch a 20lb bream from wingham or even the record , it could be a real possibility this year judging by the 3 caught so far . If im one of the lucky ones to go to the wingham fish in i would be more than happy to catch winghams smallest
