  1. I've had no problems with my iPhone and my wife too upgraded to one just before christmas. Ours are both the 3gs and the signal strength does seem to be worse than any other phone i've had - in the house, we quite often loose all signal, but to be fair we sometimes did with the previous Nokias and Sony Ericsons. I even managed to drop mine in a cup of tea, and after quickly turning it off, and drying it out overnight, it seems none the worse. Battery life isn't great but apparently the 4 is better for that, but it'll be at least a year before I think about upgrading again. Rob.
  2. A swim is just the piece of the lake or river etc you fish from (and the water infront of it). So some lakes have specific 'swims' that have been built and levelled out, others might just be the piece of grass you choose to fish on. Margins just refers to the water close to the edge. Fishing the margins just means fishing close in (unless you're fishing the far margins, across the lake or around an island). Rob.
  3. looks like a reject from 'cars' or the old herbie films. Rob.
  4. No worries, glad you located them We are very glad we are only 20 minutes away, so we plan to do some more serious photography sessions there, again, probably when it's warmed up. The snow leopard cub will though be too big to get in the cage with (she was a bit feisty when we were there so only one group went in). Rob.
  5. Totally agree with the forester, which is what I have. As mentioned below though they are thirsty in petrol, which is why I'm planning changing to a diesel at the end of the year (funds permitting). Rob.
  6. They are not open to the public but do have open days every now and again. The fees are very reasonable, they just ask you to join the trust and pay a small donation - minimum of 10 pounds per person. They actually have an open day this coming Sun (23rd) and it's open to a maximum of 20 people. Get back to me (PM) if you're interested in details, and you need to register interest via facebook - but you should be able to find me easily enough on it using my full name. Rob.
  7. You may find the same with boilies as well, or equally likely you catch less of everything. If for example you're night fishing and they are a pain, then you could switch baits over night and resume again in the day. Rob.
  8. Just a thought but if you want worm flavour, why not just fish with worms ? Worms are actually quite expensive to buy and are really just a 'meat extract' if you mix or chop them up. Chopped bits in boilies also tend to make them break apart. Rob.
  9. Emma, Echo the above and hope you make a full recovery. Don't push it, it can take a long time so just be patient and stick to what the Dr ordered. I'm guessing your on pretty intensive physio as well - follow that to the letter as well, it really makes a difference. Rob.
  10. You are essentially correct. Not sure what you mean about the fish using the weight though to get rid of the hook - how ? The hooklength is still a normal length so the hook is as far away from the lead as any other rig. A fixed lead refers to something like the hooklength tied to the lead, or acting that way. With a helicopter rig, if a break occurs in the mainline, the hooklength should pull over the broken line safely. Rob.
  11. Can you interrupt the first bit and look at the options from there - sorry don't know the right words. When mine did something similar it was the hard drive failing which I could work out from the setup (and then clunking noise). Rob. P.S. And why is it you never get a windows boot disk anymore ? My new printer asked for it and I had to try and locate the drivers online, as even their installation disk didn't get it to work.
  12. Pulling when breaking should only be if uneven wear left to right and then switching over. Swapping equally worn rears with equally worn fronts shouldn't affect pulling. Rob.
  13. Had a great day visiting the cat survival trusts home, not too far from us, here in Hertfordshire. Here's a few from today The last image was reclaimed from a very dark and under exposed image and without shooting in raw would have been totally lost. Rob.
  14. Not quite sure what you expect them to do - not arrest a suspect ? Not examine a suspects belongings ? They obviously had some reason to suspect him otherwise they wouldn't have, and again they then wouldn't have been able to release him on bail. A magistrate or similar will have been presented documentation as to why he needed releasing on bail as opposed to just plain releasing. And now who's exaggerating - what 'sex murderer' ? There was no sexual elements involved - unless the police are lying (??) Also what on earth can the guy take the police to the courts over ? He was arrested as a suspect, he will either be charged or fully released depending on developments - either way the police have done nothing wrong - it was the media doing the 'plastering' - although no one has ever said he was the guilty culprit. Rob.
  15. Thanks for the comments guys. Did a bit more playing around with photoshop and cropped the single deer. I'm not sure which I now prefer... Rob.
  16. I know what you mean, that's probably a consequence of a low res image (?) Rob.
  17. Actually it wasn't a straight swap (photoshop elements 6), I did mess about with various sliders to get that affect. It isn't really what I wanted to acheive though, but it's hard to see what your missing (if you follow me). The softness is perhaps because that was shot at 300mm and through fog. It's also difficult to see the effect on a normal computer monitor, I really need a larger one, optimised / calibrated for photos. Thanks all for the comments, I will have another play.... Rob.
  18. A few from todays misty walk, including one before and after my attempts at B&W'ing one. Rob.
  19. It's sponsored by carp-talk as far as I can tell, so no doubt contains most of their writers past and present and a maybe a few others. Actually just googled it and you can see who's in it if you do likewise. Mostly old names who I'd agree with to be honest, but not all, and few obvious omissions... Rob.
  20. I still swear by my slip on walking boots. Good grip and waterproof (up to a point) and slip straight on in seconds. Davy's clogs sound ok, but my boots can also be worn all day (and are warm). As I said above (last year) the sock / slipper things are really just not practical and seem to combine the worst rather than the best features. Add to slipperyness, little protection from stones and sticks etc and they just become a hindrance (IMHO). Still the only time my boots have been out of the house this year is to take the rubbish out to the dustbin in the snow, fishing is almost a forgotten art for me now Rob.
  21. Unfortunately there's a multitude of reasons for 'bad backs' and and equal number of remedies that work for some but not others. I believe the key is identifying the problem and then treating it. A combination of anti-inflammatories, pain killers and physio typically works for mine when it gets bad (which is rarely), but it does flare up to a lesser degree a few times a year. For me the spine seems to stiffen up and the muscles knot up. Physio manipulates it free again and it may take a few sessions to return to normal. Whilst other decry the exercises a physio gives, I swear by them. I've learnt the hard way that not doing them makes things worse and flare up ocurr more frequently. As Ken points out numbness or pain spreading out elsewhere needs a trip to the Drs. Rob.
  22. 4WD just gives a bit more traction going up, does zero to affect the ability to brake. Winter tyres or chains are far more useful (or 4wd + the tires / chains). Rob.
  23. Can't really offer a suggestion with regards the camera, but there are lots that should suit your bill. I personally look at the review sites before making a decision. I would suggest using photoshop (elements) for your picture editing, you can buy a previous version for significantly less than the latest one (I bought 6 for example). Rob.
