  1. My personal choice, Barrett M82 series. .50 Cal Renrag
  2. I can't use it. I just HAVE to eat it. Was fishing Felthorpe lakes and my mate broke a chunk off saying try it. Sod that, it got nommed as soon as I got to my swim. However he didn't know so I hatched a cunning plan... I carry on using luncheon meat (which I generously shared with the fish) and mate comes over. "Any luck?" "Yeah, its brilliant" I say "Got any more?" Mate brings me 2 sticks. Renrag
  3. http://www.snorestore.co.uk/ Nuff said. Renrag
  4. I had a security device fitted to my old motorbike. I could detach the silencer with a thumbscrew so it was just downpipes... Some pikey hotwired it one night. Think he shat himself when it fired up. Was still sitting on its stand running when I came out 15 seconds later. Had to re-wire the loom anyway, was rotten as hell. Nice to see Plod actually doing something for a change. Glad he found the car too, stroke of luck that, hope it pans out in his favour. Renrag
  5. My personal best was a Retro Motorcycle Jacket to Japan. Postage was quite a bit more than the item. Renrag
  6. 'Tiddlersnatching' when I'm actually 'Bagging Up' on 'Silvers' I do use some of the terms myself on occasion but for some reason I only refer to small roach as 'Silvers', Rudd are not bloody silver and 'Skimmers' are usually too big to be referred to as 'Silvers' and at a glance I find it hard to distinguish very small bream from roach and hybrids. My favourite term for small fish is 'Tiddlers', not used disparagingly though. At least I caught. I dislike like the term 'Skimmers' but however, I do use it, as saying 'Juvenile Bream' is somewhat cumbersome and saying 'Silver Bream' is incorrect. I use the term 'Tiddlersnatching' when I can't catch anything bigger. I never 'Bag Up', I don't use a keepnet. I do have 'Target Fish' but will never be disappointed when I catch something else. I despise the term 'Nusiance Fish'. A Gudgeon is as welcome as a Tench any day. I don't like being referred to as a 'Hoody'. As someone in the next swim disparagingly referred to me, not too quietly, to another angler as, 'that hoody over there caught a pike and didn't use a trace' followed by much tutting. For the record I was using Cheesepaste. I wear a 'Hoody' because its got big pockets and its warm. I don't like the term 'Peg' when used regarding non-competitive fishing. Its a 'Swim'. I don't like 'Bivvy'. 'Lump'. If you caught a 'Lump', go to the doctors. Otherwise you caught a big fish. I want to catch 'Pisswings'. Renrag
  7. Nice ride Elton, will keep an eye out for you. You do the Yarmouth thing ever? I do on my old Kwack GT550. Its fun to upset the children now and again. Sorry Orifice... I mean Occifer, the car made me do it... Renrag
  8. Thought I'd heard it all, Sharks eating humans... well I never. Would make a good film, I'd call it Jaws. Yeah, they made the 'grim discovery' after slicing the thing open! Suprised the mail didn't claim it was an illegal immigrant shark from Ukraine and that this is why house prices on beachfront propeties are likely to fall... Rant over, hate the Mail... The Shark is dead, Long live the Shark! Renrag
  9. Got out again yesterday evening for 2hrs. Decided against using lobs and used my cheesepaste. Made a retaining cage (its very soft and the water isn't cool enough to harden it yet) from a cut down pen spring just slipped over the #6 hook. 1st chuck, a lovely lil Jack of about 2lb, perfectly hooked in the scissors. Doddle to unhook (crushed barb). Was going to set up my feeder rod too but never got round to it. The fish really responded well to the paste and definitely sorted out the bigger fish. Caught 8 good 2-3lb skimmers (just starting to colour up), 2 Roach to about 1lb and a fantastic Rudd about 1.5lb. All on a running paternoster. Every fish hooked in the gob and caught on a lump of paste the size of the end of my thumb. No reduction in bite/fish ratio (considering they are cyps). Just ignored the tiny taps and waited for the tip to wrap round. Also tried touch legering and I could feel the tiddlers pecking away at it then it would stop for maybe 5 seconds, followed by a proper take. Seemed like the bigger fish were pushing the small ones away, giving it the eye and then 'nom' I'm in. A real confidence booster. Will still use J's for general feeder and floating but will definitely continue to use circles when I'm targeting larger fish. Renrag
  10. Countless odd catches of Perch and a few Jacks on bread and sweetcorn and a 3lb Carp on whitebait. Eels love a stinky bit of cheese! It works great to sort out the bigger ones on the Broads. Renrag
  11. They're not really cut out for it are they. My B&Q one has mixed countless loads of plaster and apart from looking better than the walls on my house, its been fine. Just stop when it gets a bit, ahem, warm... Renrag
  12. Circle hooks do seem to work as described. #6, bloody great lobs, 6lb line, running paternoster and 2x 1lb(ish) Perch, both neatly liphooked and 1 small, greedy Ruffe, shorter than the worm, also neatly in the lip. Result. Kept getting the worm nibbled at by bits and shredding it. Think I need to toughen the lobs somehow to make them more durable. Ideas? Or alternative baits? Renrag
  13. +1. Can't recommend anything else that hasn't been said before except the emphasis on 'quietly', otherwise you might get a pole section to the goolies! Its always best to ask first if they mind. Some people just don't feel comfortable being watched, others like the company. Renrag
  14. As most are saying, the pole does have its uses. But in the end we all have our personal preferences. With regards to the match, give it a go. Even though you're not a pole fanboy, you'll still have fun. Just make sure your mate knows that you're fishing for the fun of it, not outright competitively. You'll pick up some tips, cack yourself if a big-un goes for a wander and probably catch a fair few too. It could even change your outlook if you are restricted as such and don't have the choice to use rod and reel, enforced learning as such! My own preference is to modify a 4-5m tele whip and use it as a margin pole on carp puddles or for tiddlersnatching on the rivers. Otherwise it's Rod and Reel all the way for me too. Renrag
  15. Never a truer word said. The worst stuff is the end tackle and usually atrocious line. I would think that with someone to guide you that you would be able to get a usable and durable set-up quite cheaply. Like Sportsman and Wilko said though, we do need to know what sort of fishing you intend to do but I'm going to make some assumptions and give it a go. For general coarse fishing eg roach/perch on a river or lake, find a cheap match style rod of about 12' with a screw fitting on the tip ring, pick up a cheap reel and a screw in quiver-tip. Then get some cheap line to fill the spool (diawa sensor comes in bulk at a good price) of about 5lb breaking strain. Buy a selection of floats, split shot, hooks to nylon (#14/16/18 should suffice to begin with) and some legers. Also, get a book on coarse fishing, the one by Tony Whieldon is very good and easy to understand. This set up will enable you to float or leger fish. You can buy all this stuff on eBay but I would recommend you support your local tackle shop (they should do whatever they can to help get you gear to suit your budget). Try to go with someone who knows about fishing if you can. You will probably outgrow the rod and possibly the reel in time but they will last much longer than a cheapy combo set-up. I still have my first, proper set-up, a 12' Sundridge Electra rod (with screw tip quiver) and wobbly, unbalanced reel, both bought with my pocket money in 1996. I've caught carp to 14lb on it (not recommended tho) and even pike to 8lb (also not really what it was designed for). And they still get used too! However, if you intend to target fish like carp or pike on a regular basis, this set-up may not be the best introduction and you will need different equipment, of which I am not particularly knowledgeable. Welcome back to the fold, Renrag
  16. They're about the same as the B&Q own brand stuff (power-something, grey and red). They're perfectly good for general DIY use. I'd say go for it but it does depend how much you intend to use it tbh. They're built to a price after all but at least you're not paying for the name. (Dad got a Draper after I blew up his Bosch mixing plaster and I've got the B&Q jobbie) Renrag
  17. +1 for B&Q. Make sure you get a box and holdall FAR bigger than you need, your collection will grow exponentially and after a session will also seemingly get a bit bigger too as nothing ever fits back right when you gotta leave. Especially if you're later than you said you'd be! Renrag
  18. Well, I'm in the evolving county of Norfolk... hang on a minute, surely webbing is a devolution back to fish... Bugger... You wait 'til it floods, then we'll be in our element. Ooooh, more sugar... Renrag the English
  19. I suppose its more than possible, pretty sure the colouration was much darker than any Sturgeon I've seen but then again, only saw it for a coupla seconds and it was bright sunlight so it may have appeared darker anyway. Renrag
  20. Yeah, defo a Silver Dollar, apparently Metynnis Hypsauchen according to PFK. Never kept them but the worst I've heard they'll do is nip fins, not fingers. Love the quote about only being able to get his finger in its mouth. Would have been a good one if he tried it before he killed it and it was a RB Piranha. On a side note I think there are a few Plecs on the Norfolk Broads. Doubt they'll ever be caught being sucker type cats but I'm pretty sure I saw 1 at Salhouse Broad near the beach once. May well have been something else but I saw it and Plec sprung straight to mind as I've kept many. Any ideas what else it could've been? Just had the thought it could be a rare broads 'L' number lol Renrag
  21. Thats my screensaver lol! Renrag
  22. Personally I do what I can do to not fish the same stretch of river as others so I cant offend or be offended. I prefer not to be selfish, just selective on where I fish. Bear in mind I do have the whole Broads system to choose from and I usually night fish during the week. Renrag
  23. One of my catchphrases when I fish with my lil bro is 'siddown and shurrup'. Eh? Why joking? Renrag
  24. Would be a fantastic Headline Article. The Art of Silence! My own fave is a Tilley Lamp, you can adjust the light as fit and warm your hands on it so you can still touch leger on bitter winter nights if needed. Renrag
