  1. Newt, perhaps the bird makes good use of the doppler effect too, by calling attention to where the sound comes from as the bird is making rapid progress elsewhere? SteveH
  2. Back to the point creynard, also be careful of certain canals during the close season, some of them, mainly ones that have been designated as SSI's also have the close season but check your local bye laws on the environment agency web site and if that doesnt cover the waters you intemnd to still fish, then phone them they are usually helpful. Tight lines. SteveH

  6. Hi chesters, it has worked. Yes it put it back to its original configuration as bought, no there were no discs as it was all preloaded but we now have another working PC Thanks for the help the link to the recovery disk program download did the trick SteveH
  7. Oh my goodness, I guess that will teach me for trying to sort a pc out after an evening in the local hostelry, supping some of Irelands finest. Thanks chesters, I was actually trying to download the program onto floppy, for pointing out the painfully obvious if we ever meet up on a forum fish in I owe you a pint. Will let you know if the disk or your other suggestions work thanks again. SteveH
  8. Thanks for trying chesters, the forums didnt cover my problem so I have posted there, the recovery disk download is too big for a floppy disk despite saying it makes a recovery cd-rom or floppy disk, so still stuck. SteveH

    fish sim 3???

Dooooooooh! sorry but couldnt resist with your avatar SteveH
  10. My partners son gave her an i media 5050 packard bell pc. He had been using it without problems till the night before he gave it to her, when the power supply unit failed. I changed the psu and got the pc powered up but on trying to run the pc, it shows a recovery screen. Trying load last working configuation or normal start up just (after the windows xp home edition startup screen) shows a grey screen with the arrow head cursor which moves with the mouse. Trying to use safe mode it goes to a grey screen with the cursor it states safe mode in each corner of the screen, the cursor moves with the mouse but no desk top shows. If I select change post the pc tries to read the rescue (start up) disk but give the message that its reading the rescue disk - OK but goes no further. Is the PC beyond repair or is the rescue disk corrupt, if so is there anywhere I can get a copy of the rescue disk cos Packard Bell seem less than able / willing to help just giving me the run around with phomne numbers that lead me back to the person I first spoke to but no help. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. SteveH
  11. If the car starts and runs well when cold, but stalls or is difficult to start when warm, then try changing the condensor in the distributor cap. A retired AA man gave me this tip stating in the circumstances described 99 times out of a hundred thats the fix for this problem. SteveH

    fish sim 3???

  13. One of the main reasons we in the Uk allow ourselves to suffer from the insipid inertia that forestalls most attempts at putting past wrongs right, and the progress and change that could be ours if only we were willing to try things is the attitude of "we tried that before, it didn't work". If something didnt work once perhaps the conditions werent right at that time, just because something didn't work doesn't mean it wont work now. So for all those that think past splintering of opinions and faction formation etc will prevent the eventual unity of angling interests I put this to you. Why not keep trying? surely thats better than simply sitting on the sidelines and saying tried that, failed, lets give in. My self, I'm a pessimistic optimist, I don't expect things to work, but hope springs eternal. If FACT can eventually provide the proof that it IS a truly representative body, via membership for individuals, or even supporter status etc, then I say lets give it a go. In the meantime I'm content to wait for them to sort out their working practices and to hammer out how they mean to represent us. If they get the ground work right then maybe, just maybe we may end up with an umbrella organisation that is representative AND has clout! SteveH
  14. In the interests of your own personal safety, I would suggest that you inform the benefits office. This information will be kept confidential and I assure you, with the targets they have to meet in stopping people from defrauding the benefit system it will be acted upon and you dont have to put yourself in the firing line. On the down side, remove his 'legal' income and would he respond by increasing his less savoury behaviours. Asking for your confidentiality to be maintained contact also your MP and local councillor. Maybe the contacts they have with the councillors sitting on the Police authority may have some pull? SteveH
  15. Yes, as FACT are supporting my freedom to enjoy and continue to enjoy a lifetime love affair with angling, and one in which I still have so much to learn; I should and would support them in any practical way I can. Hopefully this may mean I am not wasting my time in teaching my sons and grandchildren the 'art' of angling and a love of the countryside and all it contains, along with sensible and responsible stewardship of these things for future generations. Not a political viewpoint I'm afraid, but it is what matters to me. SteveH
  16. Sorry, but even with an atrocious Irish accent that equals 10 (ten) LOLOL] SteveH
  17. http://www.maggotdrowning.com/forum/topic....?TOPIC_ID=21508 the response at the end of the original post is superb I also like the one that states technically I'm a vegetarian, I'm only recycling grass.
  18. Howard 13 to unhook these small hooks even if the fish is only lip hooked I will use a disgorger, this mens you can put the pressure applied to remove the hook directly into the bend of the hook and not bend the shank, give it a try it works for me. I just tied up a selection of hooks, from size 22 up to size 6, for the 22's to size 18's I now find it easier to use a hook tyer, but bigger than that I have more confidence in hooks Ive tied by hand.
  19. LOL neither waddingtons dosh, nor del boy notes are legal tender here in Tykeland but I am open to the idea of those southern softie beer tokens that most ppl use. SteveH
  20. I have seen Otters even here in yorks but will never say where as there aretoo many idiots out there that would try to kill em.
  21. I hope I wasn't being quoted as a CA spokesman? I am not a member of the CA, have never hunted foxes or any other warm blooded creature, except the git that nicked my tackle the first time it happened My contribution was more in the line of if some want to believe that we wont be targeted by such agressively anti anything involving animals organisations such as PETA then they are entitled to their opinion, it's a free world. Equally I'm entitled to mine, and no I do not see debate within a 'fraternity' as devisive, I see it as a healthy prelude to perhaps finding a common stance. One organisation I will be joining if ever one comes into being is one that opens to individual membership and speaks for all branches of angling on an equal basis. I don't belong to a club so I guess thats my only hope of standing up and being counted? SteveH [ 19. February 2005, 12:57 AM: Message edited by: SteveH ]
