  1. try a search on google for the place and get all the info you require ... See http://www.news-reel.com/html/ourparks/our..._lakesguide.htm and click on the lakes in the photograph, or download the guide on the right of the page.
  2. Saved, reaching the target with an average of £100K raised every day for the last 6 days (according to a local news report) .
  3. This claims it is members only, if up to date... http://www.waterscape.com/things-to-do/fis...t-austins-lakes
  4. Nobody (else) watched it then? It was about the same "standard" as the last series, there's only another 7 episodes to go .
  5. http://www.fisheries.co.uk/grobyfishinglakes/index.htm? There's a contact number and e-mail address on there if it was.
  6. I've never seen that myself on carp, just a few on (small ) pike. Catching diseased or badly mouth damaged fish certainly detracts from the angling experience. Presumably that's a central/north Leicestershire water?
  7. Thanks. I did visit it two Sundays ago while waiting for a match to finish on the unfrozen ponds at Peatling Pools. All the ponds there were frozen solid or else I would have given it a go. Well, that's not quite true, there was an ice free section a couple of feet wide from bank to bank on the Loop where a pipe was flowing into it, but as there was pretty thick snow everywhere on the bank I went back and waited for Peatling to empty.
  8. This might be it (just north of the centre of the first ariel view), if not it may at least prompt the locals to say it isn't . http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=bayford&a...and,%20SG13%208 http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=bayford&a...and,%20SG13%208
  9. The ponds were still mostly frozen solid here at the weekend. Strangely two of the three ponds at one of the local fisheries were completely clear, with the larger and deeper pond completely frozen. Unfortunately for my planned Sunday afternoon trip, when I arrived there was a match on both ponds that didn't finish until 15:15. It was touch and go, give up and go home, or wait for the match to finish and have a short session until dark. I decided on the latter, persevered with a larger bait rather than going for the silver fish and had one bite on the leger rod for a 8lb carp and one bite near dark on the float rod for a 6lb carp. It was nice to finally get the landing net wet after the tiddler dominated catches of the last couple of months . A couple of decent carp figured in the match weights, won with 12lb+ with a 10lb ish carp and some tiddlers, second was 10lb+ with a 8lb ish carp and some tiddlers.
  10. I haven't fished it for years, after a bag of that size at this time of year perhaps I should! Presumably they lost a lot of fish and restocked, if so were all the pools affected?
  11. kevin.green@emap.com? PM sent.
  12. That's cold for the Austin area . I only managed an hour or so's fishing on a business trip back in May, for a solitary bluegill. I've never caught a crappie or white bass in Lake Travis, many years ago I did catch a few white bass in a small river during the Spring spawning run, before getting soaked by one of those impressive Texas thunderstorms (I don't miss those). Of the more unusual fish, I have caught one yellow bass and one long nosed gar in Lake Travis.
  13. Super fish. Well done and Happy Birthday.
  14. If the numbers are correct, only one of these reels is a bait feeder (AKA baitrunner or free spool) in the UK market. The EB50 is a front drag bait feeder reel and the EPR50 is a rear drag reel without the bait feeder facility. If you are after 3 foot carp, buy one with the bait feeder facility.
  15. Don't seriously pike fish myself but the British Waterways waters on fisheries.co.uk claim to have big pike... http://www.fisheries.co.uk/boddington/index.htm http://www.fisheries.co.uk/naseby/index.htm etc. Not sure if its worth clicking on the letters on this site to see which have pike... http://www.fishinginnorthamptonshire.co.uk/waters.html
  16. At least you got some fresh air and exercise, and a bonus visit from the wife (is that a bonus?) . Saturday was the better day weather wise, if you sat in the sun it was almost spring like. I persevered for the carp for too long at the bigger pond on my local fishery, and didn't get a single bite on the feeder or float rod. That pond froze overnight on Saturday so the water must have been very cold. Moving to the smallest pond produced lots of bites from the micro perch, with the odd giant of 3oz and a solitary roach in about 30 fish. A chub of 1lb in pristine condition and a barbel slightly bigger completed the afternoon.
  17. It's been an enjoyable year on the mixed fish puddles. My local fisheries have been quiet angler wise this year, even on the warm evenings, which added to the enjoyment. I got close to my first 20lb carp with a 19½lb floatfished caught fish at the end of May, and then finally achieved it with a 21¾lb surface caught fish a month later .
  18. It will be interesting to see if you get any useful answers to this one, based on my "There aren't many East Midlands members who still post regularly, unfortunately, so any local information interchange is limited." reply to your post in the New Members forum. I've never fished it myself, but I've walked the whole free stretch in Jubilee Park (Whetstone, off the Foxhunter roundabout) and seen some decent roach and perch, plus what were probably very small barbel. There's a good mix of shallow runs and deeper parts if you walk the whole stretch, it's pretty inaccessible with large nettle beds in the summer but should be OK now. That stretch does flood very easily though. One of the old posters had a 2½lb chub on floating crust from there and saw one estimated at 5lb. He also used to lure fish the Soar/GUC and had some success with jack pike. I'll PM him and see if he's still around (he's not logged on for over a month and hasn't posted for ages) to reply.
  19. You didn't read the text to the right of where you got that image from ... "The Snag bar is an essential piece of equipment, which prevents the rod from coming off the rod rest, when savage 'takes' are expected. It screws in-between buzzer and bank stick and can be positioned either to the left or right of your rod. Prior to the introduction of the Snag bar, an additional bank stick or storm pole would have been needed to gain the same effect. This is a real problem when stalking a fish, as they can be easily 'spooked' by unnecessary bank side movement."
  20. I'm surprised Ferret didn't get the pedunckle treatment, given the [unfortunate] history with certain moderators. He's another one who is missed.
  21. The "two hands" question always gets some humorous answers... http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/Playing...-rod-t2794.html
  22. That wasn't you packing up at around 2 pm on the 18th as I arrived was it? It's a small world if it was . Peatling is a good fishery but you've missed the really easy fishing now it is starting to cool down. Late autumn/winter fishing can still be good at times, although the carp fishing can be patchy in the cold. I struggled on the 18th too on the Malcolm pool, one barbel and one carp just before dark saved a blank.
  23. Welcome. There aren't many East Midlands members who still post regularly, unfortunately, so any local information interchange is limited.
