MCN and Autocar have had some interesting articles regarding, government terms , safety cameras. Whilst new camera sites are being added in the thousands around the country, the number of traffic police patroling our roads has dwindled dramaticaly. This has resulted in the easy target motorist being prosecuted for the horrendous crime of doing 45mph in a 40mph limit, while the joy-riders, drunk drivers, non-insured drivers, wreckless drivers and owners of un-roadworthy vehicles drive around in the knowledge that they are unlikely to be "pulled" by a patroling bobby.
It's all about how much money the powers that be can screw out of the average motorist, not about safety! Want an example? How about the most lethal 150 mile stretch of tarmac in Britian having only 4 cameras whilst 500 new cameras were erected on the streets of London last year.
Take your pick, i'd rather the roads be used by occasional speeders rather than drunk car thiefs with no insurrance.
