  1. Lipno and Prague are very popular with Brits now (Prague mainly for hen&stag parties) and the Germans do tend to get charged more where ever posible, but I was wondering more about why brits dont travel here to fish. Is it that the waters are unknow to British anglers or are the facilities not the same as would be found in say Italy and Spain which are a similar distance to travel?
  2. can you give me names of German/dutch mags and websites please and I will contact them, your right that we see alot of german and dutch cars here with fishing gear in through out the summer. Why dont the Brits come here when they seem to travel the same sort of distance to Italy and Spain?
  3. I have just finished converting a barn on my farm which is near the Orlik Reservoir about an hour south of Prague. The reservoir is 2,732ha with bank length of around 300km and the water is upto 100m deep and is well know for carp and catfish in Czech. I am looking to advertise accomodation for fishing trips and will be traveling to the Uk next month. Can anyone help me by recomending the best places to advertise?
  4. you can eat the tail it tastes like prawn. they're great boiled or fried in some butter.
  5. you can get a rubberised tape that is V sticky to join liners together and repair holes in them. it works well but the liner must be clean and dry to use it.
  6. its not a nice way to go but probably a lot quicker than many fish that are court by comercial fishing boats.
  7. if nothing else works you could try a product called Aquaplankton, it will do the job for you but the filter and UV combination should do the trick providing the UV is large enough. A large enough UV will clear green water on its own but a biological filter is needed to filter out the dead alge. Good luck
  8. You need to find out where the silt is coming from, to have 2ft in 1 year is a lot. Do you have trees near by exesive leaf litter could be the problem. Is soil washing into the pond whilst its raining, steep sides to the pond rim will cause this. Are you over feeding the fish, uneaten food is a big problem in a lot off ponds. The silt is coming from some where find out where and do what you can to prevent it. I've been building pond for 20 years and know what a problem this can be. Good luck
  9. Congratulations Elton, I had a little girl on Feb 14 and its been great fun, you don't know what you've been missing out on until you've got kids of your own.
  10. I'll be there to try and get info on what to do and supply to incorage anglers to fish in the Czech Republic.
  11. I've just got back from scoping out the the site. the farm I'm looking at buying is next to the Nechranice dam which is famous in CZ for large carp (15kg+) and Cats of 2m+. its in the countryside surounded by hills, fields and picturesque villages and towns. The farm is an hour and a half drive from Prague airport and collection can be arrange. We will be able to accommodate 9 people in the main farmhouse and will be looking to convert the barns into accommodation in the near future. I'm still interested in any response from the fishing comunity as to whether you would be interested in fishing this site and any requirements you may need.
  12. I used to keep a pair of Oscars, I believe their're American. They were realy clever and friendly if they knew you ! They grew to about a foot long then layed eggs, hundreds of them. the problem was that they were both laying eggs.

I build a pond for a customer a few years back, they stocked it with some great fish and were doing really well until they bought 2 Sturlets (Sturgoen) which as they grew ate anything that fitted into their huge mouths. I think you can safely say that they are both predaters and scavengers.
  14. Both of those ideas should help but if the problem persists contact your local vet and he/she will be able to give you an antibiotic that you can either get them to administer or some will let you do it. its an injection so acts quickly.
  15. Be careful with the salt, a friend of mine salted his pond and killed all the fish. mind you he was throwing it in by the hand full using the principle that if a cupfull is good then a bucketfull MUST be better ! He went on in this way for about 18 months and managed to look after all of his fish to death !!!!
