  4. Newt Thanks for the links to the pig cooking sites. Me and Mrs Scapa are planning a family do in the summer and were thinking about a pig roast but were unsure how to do it. BTW any AN'ers in Orkney in July will be welcome. Oink Scapa

  7. Nick as far as your poll is concerned I would vote none of the above. You are an honest man who made a stupid mistake like every other person on this planet has done in one way or another at some time in thier lives. You are however big enough to admit it and to post your short comings on a public forum with out making excuses or blaming someone else.. You have my respect for that ( for what that is worth). Good luck Scapa.
  8. The county of Orkney is twinned with the "county" of Hordaland in Norway. The links are close and seem to be cherished on both sides of the North Sea. I must admit that from where I stand Orkney seems to get the better of the deal with visiting Choirs, bands, Sailing ships and gifts of Trees at Christmas and that is not even mentioning the great looking Norwegian lasses on student exchanges. I might add that Orkney was part of the Norwegian Kingdom until the mid fifteenth century and is the only place in the UK I know that celebrates Norwegian Constitution day (May 16th or is it 17th??) 9. From the one time I tried root beer I thought that was an integral part of the receipe
  10. I think it's a silver birch but not sure as there is a woolf in the way
  11. I was in the States in May this year, travelling around New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and DC. I found nearly everyone friendly and polite. The one exception was some of the Park Rangers at the Historical sites in Philadelphia. They seemed to get a bit narked when I refered to the "War Of Independance" as the "Rebel Insurgency"
  12. I must admit to having seen this one before. As a tip, you have to "Think out of the box" Cheers Scapa
  13. I quite agree with your sentiment Alan however I believe that recent DNA evidence proved that Hanratty was guilty. Also Albert Pierpoint did not carry out public hangings, at least not in the UK where I believe the last public hanging was in the mid 19th century. Sorry to be a pedantic prig. Cheers Scapa Here is a link to the Hanratty story http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/1977508.stm
  14. When discussing this subject folk often say to me "how would you feel if a loved one of yours was murdered?" I am a human being and I would want to inflict as much pain and torment on the perpertrator as possible in an act of revenge. However if as seems to be implied by the question the only reason for Capital punishment is revenge then I think it has no place in a civilised society. I have always been against the death penalty for the reason that no one has the right to take a life no matter what the circumstances. I also usually feel in the minority but I am getting used to that, even on AN Cheers Scapa
  15. 48 years inside and £9500 fine. Phew that's a relief I was expecting a serious sentence
  16. See this BBC report and follow the links to make a donation if you wish. Cheers Scapa web page
  17. I once stayed at the Regents Palace hotel, which is about fifty paces from Piccadilly circus. A quick look on the net told me they have single rooms for under £50, if she is with a friend then a twin is £51. There are also student discounts. The place is basic and busy but there were alot of young folk there when I visited and I didn't have any problems. Cheers Scapa
  18. Nice dog. I will try not to mistake you for someone else Cheers Scapa
  19. Marcel Marceau if you want some peace
  20. I once found a Roman coin in my garden, I know it was old cos it was marked 15 BC Cheers Scapa
