  1. Subject: Totally Mad History...very weird! Coincidence? Have a history teacher explain this if they can Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost a child while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both Presidents were shot in the head. Now it gets really weird. Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln. Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839 Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters. Now hang on to your seat Lincoln was shot at the theater named "Ford." Kennedy was shot in a car called "Lincoln" made by "Ford." Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials. And here's the "kicker": A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland. A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe. and Lincoln was shot in a theater and the assassin ran to a warehouse. Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and the assassin ran to a theater.
  2. thats a fetching photo Elton. Will keep my eye on this site.
  3. try Korda funnel web stocking type stuff with a bit of sticky mag to bind the maggies together. The colder water means the pva will take longer to dissolve and it will leave lumps. once the maggies hit the water the sticky mag takes about 4-5 seconds to disperse so that should be enough time to reach the bottom. alternatively try a block end feeder. rich
  4. Steve Peat was world Mountain Biking Downhill Champ last year and is still reigning. No recognition though. is it even worth voting (although I have) as it is realy only the main stream sports that will be highlighted. shamefull though it is rich
  5. fair comments Peter. I just annoys me when people complain about MTB'ers and then try to take away our access right as a group. I appreciate what you say about the footpath, I cannot say I am not guilty of the same offence although I do try to stick to what I am legally allowed to ride. roads and MTB's dont mix well. nice knobbly tyres wear out quickly and we have less access than you may think to the countryside. If it were not for the forestry comission our sport would be in serious decline. You may have noticed a swing to street riding, this is surely an offshoot of having rights to ride freely taken away. also anglers and ramblers are considered a nuciance by MTB'ers. By reading you posts on this subject I can see you feel strongly about the things that affect your way of life and hope that my comments don't offend you. rich [ 24. 6. as both a mountain biker and an angler I (like yourself with the canoe) give each party the respect they both need and deserve. Who decides that the angler who's pole is crossing the towpath is first in the pecking order? It is a public right of way. This will be argued until the cows come home, and to what end? nowt. all we will do is create a divide between different sporting groups. Fair enough if a canoist causes a nuciance then they should be told, but what hapens when anglers threaten to cast 2-3 ounce leads at the hull, that is just immature and bloody minded and god help those who would actually follow up their threats. When riding my bike, I wait for an angler to move his/ her pole etc and whilst doing so exchange a few words which usually ends up with them realising I am an angler and being gratefull for my patience. Simillarly when fishing I will move my pole etc if a biker comes along which usually ends up with a brief thankyou. Peter, you say mountain bikers are squeezing anglers off waters that they mave maintained for years, what about mountain bikers being shut out of the woods that they look after, and kicked off the trails they have built and repaired. do gooders dont do good they cause more mischief than anyone. hell that took some typing. rich

    Line clip

Hi terryk and welcome. The line clip is ok for bream so long as you are not fishing for 10lb ers. on the strike you will gain line back immediatly and as bream are about as ennergetic as an old lady on morphine you shouldnt have much trouble. another option is to tie a stop knot on the line with inch long tags, when you hear the knot rattle through the rings feather your rig down. now adays i dont bother as i find i can hit the same tree on the far bank every time only joking. its all about practice, practice, practice. cheers, rich.

  17. john, firstly I would think that the water on the river bed flows at a slower rate than that of the surface due to obstructions etc. If you use a smallish worm it is easy enough to lift it up in the water a few inches with a reasonable ammount of air. although perch dont like resistance you can use a small split shot to critically balance the worm above your groundbait. chopped worm in a swimfesder will drift down stream and entice the perch up in to your swim to hopefully nail any moving meal. as per the testing, bigger worms will hold more air. hope this helps. rich.
  18. get a small syringe with a fine needle and inject air into the tail of the worm. This will make it float and get it away from the pesky Crays. cheers rich.

  21. was it not the kids dad that killed the fish. If so its his dad that needs educating, after all how many (decent) children would argue a fact with a father figure. Not me at that age thats for sure. Lets just hope that some good can come of this irrelevant of the species. after all Asians are not native to this country. (can of worms at the ready).
  22. mmm. I didnt know what to buy the missus this year. I could have got perfume but I did that last year. Jewellry (sp) nah. Wine is a bit boring as was clothes. She already has a new car so I was at a lost end. Then by chance i was walking through B&Q when I saw an enormous light bulb, 65000 watts of pearl power in its own little box with its own little lamp. Now its wrapped up waiting for her to open on christmas day, I cant wait until she ripps off the paper and plugs it in. I cant wait to see her little face light up!!
