Nice - I've found a lot of perch in that class in various stretches of the K&A this year and last. Were you fishing 'Dogshit Alley' or above Guyers Lock?
-
Any big stripeys from Enborne - Martin?
-
Ah - I think I see where you're going wrong!!
-
Good luck - conditions are spot on!
-
Well, well, well - I nearly bumped into you! Thought you might have hit Brimpton today - which I was also considering but fancied a grayling or 2 first!
-
Oh dear, blanking at Hambridge - sorry to hear that - were you actually remembering to bait your hook?
-
Well - err I'm a member of both TAA and RTAA plus I have my little syndicate at Marsh Benham and I'm waiting on my half year Dorchester & DAS book to arrive! (to fish the Frome). TAA have the bonus of doing an exchange with Godalming which saves a few pennies on trips to Marsh Farm (plus gets me on Johnsons Lake next door!) and RTAA is only £25 a season - I pay more than that for a day ticket on the Itchen!
-
This is Thatcham AA - they have the canal all the way from Colthrop Industrial Estate, past Thatcham railway station upto Widmead lock (which is the lock you come out at if you take the footpath between Dixons & Collins). NAA then have the north bank from Widmead to Bulls lock (CSAS have the south bank of the river - but this bit isn't available on the exchange) and the canal on into town until you get to the 'Whitehouse' (behind B&Q and the now disused pub) stretch which is TAA again....
-
Thanks Dave - was planning a trip to Speen this weekend - might drop by the canal on the way(or way back!). I've caught tench (and a carp) from Enborne in the past and I'm usually disappointed to see them as I always think I'm into a good perch!
-
Wow - that's even better news! I took a pic of the first one and a couple of the others were a little bigger - but not significantly so... I often used to catch them this size and upto a 1½lb on the NAA stretch - in the fast streamy water immediately above Ham Bridge - I fact I used to call the swim the Nursery for that reason.
-
Umm - Thanks - I've not had a big one out this year from there - just a few of the recent stocking. Might have to change where I target them - someone else pointed me at P30 - I usually fish the willow tree or lillies on the West bank...
-
She had plenty to see - loads of kingfishers feeding opposite (as many as 3 at one time) and a mink swam under the rods and ran up the bank right by us - alas the hoped for (by her at least!) otter sighting didn't happen!
-
I bodge an attachment to my floats. And I have a bait fridge/freezer in the garage!
-
I use little glostick inserts in my float - get through quite a few during the summer but if you shop around and buy in bulk you can get some good deals - my current batch set me back £8 for a 100 - that was a couple of years ago - keep them in the freezer to extend their 'shelf life'....
-
Have had a few perch from Willows this summer - but I find they stop feeding as it gets dark. I always fish lift method so the bait is getting to the bottom quickly which I think also helps..... other than that - dunno
-
Not exactly unexpected - I've not had a Kennet barbel (from anywhere) since Oct 2016 - when I had a 10lber from this swim. 2017/18 season I put in over 150 rod hours for them without so much as a bite so I'm now down to the odd session - expecting a blank! Still at least I caught my first gudgeon from here in 5 years!!
-
No - TAA still sharing north bank with CALPAC - surprised to have the place to myself on a Saturday in August!

It's to honour the memory of my lifetime angling pal - Paul who died from renal cancer in 2015. We were at scholl together in the 1970s and fished all our adult lifes in each other company. (Our wifes once joked that we saw more of eachother than we did them!) Crucians and Grayling were/are two of our favourite species so I've organised fish-ins for them each year since - and so far have raised in excess of £3K for Duchess of Kent Hospice where Paul spent his last days.....
-
They were - was particularly annoyed about the Arrowhead - I'd caught 12lb barbel (all be it back in 2004), 6lb Chub & 4lb+ Perch from there. Never an easy venue - but could be very rewarding! RTAA have now taken it back (so I've joined them!)
-
This was never an NAA water (leastways not since I've been a member (1982) and I don't think they ever had any river above Speen Moors - in fact when I first joined we didn't even have the 2 weirpools and the field between them - which is why they featured in APFA as they were part of Benham Estates at the time of filming. This is a piece of water that a dozen or so of us rent each year from the estate - took me 10 years to get in the syndicate - but its a lovely secluded spot and well worth the wait! I get to fish quite a bit of water 'above Newbury' especially in the winter and the trout can be a right pain when you're after a big chub - and the river keepers definitely don't want you targetting them!
-
4lbs of bramble jelly made this morning so it was well worth it!l

Was even quieter yesterday evening!
-
Might give it a go - tis a nice part of the world!
-
I hear the new owners are doing a lot of work at BC - and have closed the river to coarse anglers in the winter. Good luck if you go - I don't think I've even seen the lake at BC - what's in it?

Blimey well done - which is peg 28? - I was there this morning sheltering from the squall under the road bridge and saw that p27 has been ripped up but couldn't see a 28?
