Where there's one there's usually loads! Uncommon but often locally abundant!
-
Ooo well done - never caught a Ruffe on the Kennet. Paul will be asking you for location - he's doing a species race this year - never seen him so pleased to catch a bleak - as he did on Saturday!
-
Hi John - I'm down there next week - be interested in which swims you fished. Any roach - LIF has been producing some big ones in the last couple of years - just need to find them!!!!
-
John - I've had good dace (plus 8ozers) this summer from Rainsford, Colthrop & Brimpton...
-
John - we'll have to kidnap Rusty and not release him til he tells us where's he's been catching this Autumn!! :-)
-
Was on a NAA water - not very far from Rusty's co-ordinates of the other day! ;-)
I've not had a barbel from Hambridge either - which if I go through the whole season not catching one from there will be the frist season EVER I've not had one (and my 1st season fishing there was 82/83!) There is a swim at H I used to call The Banker - a swim I'd occasionally take a guest to in order for them to get their first barbel - and it never let me down. Not had a fish from it in the last 3 seasons.
-
Viney - it was your lack of success that had me steeling myself for the long haul - so count meself pretty lucky to strike gold right away! JC - I was talking more about angler comfort when I said was a lovely evening - mild no wind - and these swim is notoriously breezy I've found in the past!! I'm always more confident at dusk - regardless of cloud cover - and it did get pretty dark - especially as the moon didn't get up till around 2200 - (About the same time it got foggy!)
-
Hardly had one - and can't say I've been too bothered by them at Brimpton either!
-
Twas!
-
I think everything bred really late this year.... was also nice to see some really good dace showing up too.
-
Well done John - you're gonna have to start taking a camera with you!!!
-
Matthew - the email I got on 23rd was to say it was business as usual - but I reckon they must have known something was up - I was told on the bank - on the 19th June that I shouldn't be there - hence my query to the club.....
-
the reasons to renew my ticket next year are diminishing rapidly.
Feel a little cheated for having renewed it this year - PP is one of the main reasons I join TAA...
-
Oh BUGGER - one of my fav. summer waters.... bound to put pressure on Rainsford too....;(
-
Chris - I queried this with TAA - and below is part of the response I got from the Chairman on 23rd June...
"Rest assured that we have not lost the fishing at Padworth Park. There may be changes in the future but for the present it is "business as usual". My colleagues and I are working to secure our long term access to this fishery and if and when there is anything to report we will of course tell members. So, please continue fishing with our best wishes!"

Well at least you had SOME dace Chris! And I like the sound of baby barbel showing up!
-
It was - those roach would interest you, John. Caught in daylight too!
-
Wading is most definitely possible - still a bit of depth though! I hadn't actually planned to fish there - aim was to fish the slack above but there was already two anglers in it when I arrived (did they not see my ryepeck! ). Chub took an age to come on the feed - was the last fish I caught - pity I couldn't have stayed longer.....
Sam was actually a little disappointed - was hoping to medal and was looking good at 200 - cocked up his stride pattern in the middle third and did well to come through from last on the home straight - this set a new Newbury Athletics Club Senior Men's Record and puts him 5th ranked in the UK...

Pictures of lampreys, eels and salmon all feature in the book along with sturgeon - bares out what your commentator says. Though the only church local to us in Fred's tome - St James at Bramley, has a picture of a bream - no doubt from the local river Loddon!
-
Hi John - you might want to check out the 'Victorian' painting. Buller cites a couple of examples in this book of Victorians 'improving' earlier paintings though rather clumsy touching up or even completely over painting what was there before!
-
Cracking looking fish - especially the last one - almost makes me want to take up Carp fishing..
-
And has it turned out - you did the finding, Rusty!
-
I see views have gone through the roof - can only mean one thing, Elton's been posting the blog on Facebook again!
-
That float is now in my tackle box! I also had 3 from that swim today - though my biggest (from there) was 3-10...

Something slightly finer in the wire - Mustads I think - seemed to do the trick!
