When they start becoming a problem species in the Scottish loch that they were introduced into, no doubt some bright spark will blame pike anglers for introducing them as livebaits.

114.8 Kg's Not bad for the first week. That's just about 10lbs old money. It'll probably slow down a bit now though.

Jan. I got back from India on 21.12.05 and am looking to go back for another 6 weeks just as soon as I can sort it out. Cow tipping unfortunatly looks like an urban myth but I've been tempted to kick seven shades out of some of the bad tempered evil bleeders over there. Can't do that without getting lynched though, so I content myself with occasional trips to a restauraunt that's run by a Dutch couple in Goa where I get to eat large succulent steaks and fantasise about which of my "favorite" cows I'd like it to have been carved off. Admitting this did however generate a positivly outraged e-mail from a Hindu friend in the UK.

I got bored over Christmas and dug out my old Friends Reunited entry that nobody had ever responded to and changed it to complete BS. According to my profile, I'm a currently doing time in a jail in the DR Congo for activities related to arms smuggling. I can't sell rubbish or "nothing" over e-bay 'cause it's been done. Any other uggestions should boredom strike again ?

One that i loved was fishing the Severn and walking out around a tree to discover that the run-in to a rock bar was 2 feet deep and weedy on the inside line before shelving up to about 6" over bare rock. The edge was reeds so I slipped on a Moss Boss and flicked it up hard against the reeds and twitched it back. As the lure came in over the barr, I sped it up for the next cast when a low double pike came charging out of the reeads, bow-waving through 6 or 7 feet of water just 6" deep to nail the lure about 3 feet from my rod tip. Having been hooked, it promptly shot off into mid river where it jumped several times and generally gave a good account of itself before comming in. I've had plenty of bigger fish but for sheer adrenalin pumping fun, that one was hard to beat. With carp (yes, I have targeted deliberatly in the past) it's hard to beat the mid double caught in lillies under my rod tip on floating crust. I would only have been 15 or 16 so for me that was a MONSTER - and what a way to catch it, watching those big rubbery lips comming up and sucking my bait in.

Well, I read the New Scientist article this morning and it's made the headlines because experiments based on an obscure German physists (un peer reviewed) work are about to get US government funding. No real progress has been made and most accademics seem to think that the theory is nonsence - even though the theory makes some uncannly accurate predictions about the masses of sub attomic particles that are beyond prediction using "the standard model".

In India, we would fish static baits with grip leads and a big bow but actually caught more fish by using a rolling lead and walking the baits along the beach as the lead gets washed along. Doing this covered a lot of water/fish and the bait could be kept between 70 and 40m out for a good 10 minutes.

I saw the cover and picked up New Scientist on the basis of this story on Friday. I've not yet had chance to read the article though. If FTL travel proves to be possible, it makes the whole extra terestrial visits thing a whole lot more probable.

The strange thing with women is that they think they'll get the same responces from all men that they get from the tame one they've got at home. On the plus side, there's endless fun to be had simply by being honest: Q. What do you think of my new hairdo ? A. Well the perm makes you look like an early eighties footballer. Q. Do you like my new top ? A. Well the top's alright but you're a bit old to pull it off. Q. Do you think that this dress makes me look fat ? A. No. The doughnuts that you constantly eat make you look fat. Q. Do you like my new perfume ? A. Is it the new one by Vapona ?

This from the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4591230.stm I seem to recall that he made several high profile statements on angling but for the life of me, I can't recall what they were.

Thanks for that Nick.

Working in the public sector means that we don't get the sudden direction shifts that occur with takeovers in private industry, but it does mean that we're subjected to to financial insanity, meaningless buzwords, PC BS and stupidity on a level that would sink any private company in weeks. I for one am looking for a way out. A minor example of financial wizardry in order to meet a target would be cutting the staff who's job it is to attempt to stem the tide of Social Security fraud by 40% whilst running a TV campagn to tell everyone that they'll get caught if they work and draw. As a consequence of the staff cuts, detected fraud (we can actually only call it "fraud" after a successfull prosecution) drops significantly. Therefore, fraud has dropped significantly. Therefore the master plan worked. The dic**eads who cut the staffing get promoted. The government issues a statement saying that its efforts to stem abuse of the Social Security stystem has been a great success. Meanwhile, millions of pounds worth of public money gets stolen and the staff that are left on the fraud team either give up or go off sick due to stress. The general public have no idea how big an issue fraud is in the Social Security system. If they really had any iclue, they'd vote for the first party that said it'd pull the plug on the whole lot of it.

How long before we have several sturgen species established in our rivers ? If they're outgrowing ponds, people set them free - it's a feact of life. Same goes for the channel cats.

Mr Kennedy strikes me as a very able and likeable bloke, even though I don't often agree with him. His is however aiming to be prime minister of this country and whilst I've no issue with a prospective PM or anyone else having a few drinks, the prospect of them being regularly to drunk to make effective decisions in a crisis is worrying. As long as there is any indication that he has a current "drink problem", there is simply no way that he should be in charge of a party or the country - he has to go. As for getting his friends to go on TV and describe alcoholism as "a medical condition", I'm sorry, there's only so much PC BS that I can deal with in one day and that dragged my opinion of Kennedy and his party down several notches.

I'm just having a look round this forum and reckon this question would have got a quicker reply elsewhere. I agree that the JTS is a great bass lure and it's a pain that Pradco have discontinued them. The good news is that I came accross this recently http://www.sovereignsuperbaits.co.uk/Lures...l#JointedVictim The Jointed Victim is reckoned to be a (slightly heavier) copy of the JTS. I've used this company recently and no probs with service etc.

I tried the Cindy Crawford workout video when it came out a few years ago. After four weeks, I was still a total couch potato - but I had a right arm like Arnold Swartzenegger's.........

Thanks, but the pre download blurb specificaly states that that version is intended for networks and tells people not to use it for a single computer. I still can't find SP2 though.

Newt. I've tried slider lures on their jigheads and jelly worms rigged up with a drilled bullet weight in front as shown on the Senco link. I've tried tube baits (but not extensivly yet) with both light and heavy jigs but have never done any good with any of them in freshwater. Swimbaits, grubs or shads fished on jigheads or unweighted soft plastics that can be twitched have however done the busines consistently. Maybe it's our species (but I'm sure someone on here will come forward and say that everything I've said won't work for me works for them) or maybe it's a lack of skills on my part, I don't know. Wait till you get over here and see how you get on with your US tactics. BTW. I was watching a Banjo lure infomercial the other day and although I'm not about to rush out and buy a kit, it gave me some interesting ideas. I've got to try this whacky rig in a few slacks on the river and I want to try the grub screw with a big single instead of a treble on a stinger - has anyone tried this in the UK already ?

116.7 Kg's. Still dropping.

VMC Z Bend Worm Hook's (E8313) are readily available from UK-Hooks http://www.uk-hooks.com/hookdetailsk.asp?n...D%20WORM%20HOOK as are a good range of circles etc. Finding a decent range of jig heads with good quality hooks is another matter unless you're prepared to pay through the nose.

This looks like the same head torch that's on sale in woolies for £7.49. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/20-000mcd-PROFESSION...1QQcmdZViewItem The packaging is diferent, but it definatly appears to be the same torch. I've not tried mine in the wet yet but it does seem to be a bit good for the money. My only moan would be that if you turn the torch on on minimum power to bait up, you have to switch it through medium power and high power before you can turn it off - guarenteed to ruin night vision and spook fish. How hard would it have been to have separate power and on/off switches ?

Last night I was connecting a friends PC to broadband. Once connected, I downloaded the Microsoft anti-spyware package and on realising that she’d never installed Service Pack 2, I went back to Microsoft’s download centre to find and install it. Despite running a search, I couldn’t find it anywhere. I even tried downloading one of the updates, thinking that the original SP2 would be bundled with it but this was rejected ‘cause SP2 wasn’t installed. Is SP2 still available to download anywhere ?

117.7 Kg's. It's working - but then again it always starts comming off quick and then slows down a little.

Penn and Teller take on and expose P*TA
Ken L replied to Brian Carragher's topic in Non-Fishing Chat
Great clip of Penn and Teller. Although there was no new information, it's amazing how much more inpact it has when watched as a TV presentation. -
OK, I admit it. 119.1 Kg's
