Plenty of fresh tap water on the reel as soon as you get back and wash down the ring seats as thats where the salt tends to stick in that little void between the ring seat and blank and months later they just rust off unexpectantly Salt water won't bother the braid one bit

Yes I noticed the top loop was'nt crimped and theres two of them on the loop, all I think would happenin the photo above is that the loop would pull through or crease and it would be a stress point waiting to snap When I do the loop I use a much smaller diameter crimp that just holds the wire twice and crimp firmly on it and that secures everything, it also allows the treble to move and swing so a livey can move about naturally with a good hookhold unlike a standard snap tackle which impedes a hook up due to the way the top treble would normally lie. Obviously you won't be able to try it out as livebaiting is banned in Scotland but when you have a look at how it works it might be worth your while copying it but crimping You can alter hook size and wire guage according to your baits

If its not been invented yet then I've been doing something very wrong for years using a very very similar method of construction, the big difference being that the treble in the loop gets the crimp crushed to keep the hook in place Its a great set up for fishing a live bait over depth over an unweighted float and because the livebait is hooked around the dorsal area on the crimped treble in the loop it allows much much more natural movement from the bait without tangling the trace up Got to admit though its the first time I've seen anyone else useing a similar method, got some other livebait traces made up that allow me to use big big baits as livebaits that although unconventional work extremly well allowing me to get hooks at either end of a big livebait

As someone whos tested them to destruction of the 35lb wire I KNOW you could'nt, the wire snaps long before the snap gets worried

You don't need duo or cross links on your swivels, just go for the American snap swivels, you'll never ever pull them out

Andrew Looks like you're going to give the starpoints a go, if so give them a real good try out and put some sort of feedback on your hook up rates etc and see how you rate them, be interesting to see your views and see what other folk's reaction is to it

There is periodically a published set of results of all tested and rated lines but I can't rightly remember who by, think it was something to do with the English Tackle trade but someone will know for sure Anyway they did a set of tests on all the leading monos to a scientific standard and they looked at all the published data, ie, stated line diameter, stated breaking strain, spool length and tested it against their findings and the stated information from the manufacturers/suppliers There was a wide range of difference in stated diameters with a lot of manufacturers claiming smaller diameters than the mono was reading and the same with breaking strains, some mono's only reaching 60% of their stated b/s, also they tested the line strength against knot strength and published a scientific set of test results which were at odds with most lines stated figures The lines that came out well were surprisingly enough, Stren,Sensor and Maxima, some of the trendy names were actually quite poor

I use Sensor for 90% of all my fishing and as Tigger stated above its a good way stronger than its stated strength because its rated at knot strength, for my barbel fishing though I use Stren feeder line , superb stuff for barbelling and it comes off the reel better than Sensor

I use that same pattern the B911 but in barbed and its a very good hook, so is the Drennan in the same pattern only pay £1:10 a pack in my local shop but the best hook I've used has to be the Drennan Starpoint, razor sharp and deadly for a hook hold when barbel fishing

Can it be repaired? Yes But its not a job for a first time rod repair man, give it to someone who builds/repairs rods, there'll be someone in your area. We have a local chap up here that does repair work directly for Century among others and repairs, fix's all sorts of breaks and repairs to all makes and models The spigot is an integral part of the rods design, cock it up with a repair and you'll end up shattering the blank, either the tip or butt will bust through when you exert the blank with a cast

Plenty of fish around at the moment for anyone who wants to try a day afloat in the North East , two of us had 25 stone of real prime cod last week with lots of the fish in double figures, anyone thinking of giving it a go could do very well fishing from the N/E ports

I don't fish for zander but I have been known to have a little dabble for pike All my pike fishing is done off the baitrunner, I never fish open bail arms so for me a bit pit type reel would be a non starter

Mines open too, makes for a better all round fishing boat, if you're chuckig lures about then a cuddy just squash's everyone together and makes casting lures dangerous My outboard is the same a Tohatsu very very reliable as you would expect from something made by Nissan

I have a 16ft Pebble with a 9.9hp twin cylinder two stroke on it and fish up to about 8/10 miles from shore With it being a displacement hull theres no point in putting massive motors on the back as the hull has a maximum speed, its a very sturdy fishing boat good when travelling and very good on the anchor or drifting due to its hull shape, its a scaled down glass fibre version of a Yorkshire Coble and very much capable of handling inshore fishing trips, if the weathers too bad to be out in a pebble then you don't want to be out at all

I do both coarse and sea fishing and have my own boat for sea fishing Big question first is does he want a boat capable of going to sea and fishing big lochs or small inland waters An Orkney strikeliner is a good stable fast boat with a cabin option either open or closed depending on preference or what electronics you install and how safe your boat sstorage is. A Pebble is a good stable displacement boat that will do all of what you require but its outward range at sea will be more limited than a strikeliner Keep away from the Dejon range, they're not a great hull design and there's been too many folk drown in them to be just a coincidence, in my opinion not a boat you should be going to sea in anyway Remember that if you're afloat on a big open loch to treat it like the sea, they get very rough very quickly when the wind blows due to the tunnelling effect of thw wind through the vally's Any questions just fire away but remember what's already been said, a boat is just a hole in the water that you throw money into

Hold a pike by its eyes Are you for real, are you an angler at all, I very much doubt it Please don't give me any lectures on fish welfare when your own fish handling skills are less than zero

Have you tried sanding the side of the leg where the metal bites together or if not possible turning the leg through 90 degrees so it bites on fresh metal
