i only said 2-2 1/2lb because ive caught 4 and 5lb chub and they were much longer and bigger overall than that

as an estimate from looking at my tape measure i would say 2, maybe 2 1/2 pounds being the biggest

the book on spinning and plug fishing by barrie richards and ken whitehead is a very good book. ive read it and it has been very useful to me. not only does it talk about fishing for pike, but perch, chub, salmon and sea trout(i think, cant remember)

i usually get fishing stuff for christmas but now i have everything i need! i still get little things like wire traces and plugs and spinners and stuff though

why do they say deads work better in winter? isnt it because the pike dont have to chase the bait? if thats true then lures should be just as effective because you're imitating an INJURED fish which the pike wouldnt have to work hard to get anyway?

wobbling deadbaits is sort of a cross between deadbaiting and spinning. but its more like spinning in my opinion because you are spinning the bait. i prefer lure fishing for pike because it is an active way of fishing for them and you catch lots of pike regardless of their size, they're all fun to catch

ive just bought my self a 9ft spinning rod for the winter piking. cant wait to try it out on the weekend!

yep exactly the same thing happened to me in the spring this year. a pike, about 3lb popped its head out of the water, and about half an hour prior to that i had caught a pike a bit smaller than that on a worm

i think it may be a heron or a cormarant. i caught a ghost carp in my local village pond the other year with the same sort of injuries, if not worse. you could see the flesh under the scales. there has been known to be herons and cormarants there and i have seen them so that would be my guess

whats wrong with piking in the summer? surely it must be the same as barbel fishing in the summer where they fight so hard that its not good to fish for them. so does that mean that we shouldnt be barbel fishing in the summer either?

i dont see why not. i mean, it is a fish after all. i havent tried it myself though. you could probably also catch pike on sandeels

one thing that i know they eat is dried oats. you know those bags of it you can buy? sprinkle some on the top and it'll be gone by morning

thats some impressive craftmanship.thats a nice looking tench too. how big was it?

i hope to when i go. the place i'm going has some quite good winter tench sport because of a slight flow through the pond, although there isn't actually a flow if you know what i mean.chappers, the 13ft'er i have is much the same as yours then. maybe thats the better option

ok thanks rabbit, i was going more towards the 13 foot rod aswell , seeing as around the edge of the pond in question, there is tough and thick reeds, and i might need a longer rod to keep fish out of them. just wanted to see what other people thought

what's the ideal rod for floatfishing for tench in a small farm pond? i have a 13ft'er with a pretty much all through action, but i also have a 11ft avon rod, also with an all-through action, which is the best for my situation?
