  3. quote: What would you advise a clutch setting of if i am fishing for carp ? An impossible one to answer as all reels vary, it also depends on the line strength you are using, area you are fishing. eg open water you can let fish run more than snaggy swims Just try testing it by pulling line off the reel clutch tightening and loosening as you see fit. You will soon get the hang of it.

    Barbel

You might struggle to find somwhere local for barbel fishing. Never knew the Witham contained barbel but it might be worth a try. Or like peter suggested the Trent is probably the closest real chance

  7. Never caught a mullet, but i think pond for pound it would have to be perch then barbel lmao a sheep wow i once caught a seagull on a deadbait, that fought a fair bit and tried to bite me hand off whilst unhooking
  8. I also have heard a lot of good things about Blytonponds although never been there personally I can recommend here one for the fishing
  9. I would have to agree it does sound very much like dropsy did it look anything like the pics here supposed to be highly contagious also so care should be taken to avoid spreading the disease to other venues by disinfecting nets (a pain i know but surely worth the effort
  10. You could also try shading your pond to slow the growth of the algea

  14. They are all as good on there day. Somtimes ive only been able to catch on a certain colour a week later its changed. However having said that ive found as a general rule Bream/tench prefer red, Roach prefer bronze, and white work best on heavily fished waters where lots of coloured maggots are regulary used. Just my opinion

  16. Have you thought about joining a club? There a few around Scunthorpe such as: Iron And Steel Angling Club (limited to 100 members) Has a large mixed lake mainly tench and rudd at Thealby a stretch on the tidal trent and maybe getting another lake keeping that one secret for now . It costs just over £20 a year to join meetings first wednesday of every month at Brumby & Frodingham working mens club, holds matches throughout the year(entirely optional)A great freindly atmosphere. if your interested pm me. Well now ive plugged my club here's another Scunthorpe police club alternatively if u get a Scunthorpe And District Angling Association Book you have the ancholme, Stainforth & Keadby canal, several streches on the trent and a few more day ticket waters: Lindolme lakes sandtoft/belton area around a fiver a day (You cant fail to catch here mostly small carp) Willow springs, messingham similar to above Theres also 2 very Idyllic ponds if you dont mind a walk near scawby just over the motorway bridge past scawby crossroads on the left though not sure who has the fishing rights Wouldnt mind having a go there again myself Hope this helped/confused (delete where applicable)

  19. Thought id share my first tench session of the year with you all let me start by telling you a bit about the venue my local club lake. A notoriously hard mixed fishery with the mainstay of weights been made up of Rudd and Tench although other species tend to get thrown into the mix unexpectedly such as double figure bream though too rare to target. The rumours had been passing around that the tench were beginning to show so I thought an afternoon/evening trip was in order. I knew there was little chance of the smaller fish, which have had a serious ravaging by fish eating birds over winter, so opted to go for the tench or bust. Upon arriving about 2pm there was a fairly strong wind blowing towards my favoured pegs, so I set up next to a large bush with two heavy feeder rods, ground bait feeder paternoster style, and my new electronic bite alarms and pod set up. I wasn’t overly hopeful of even getting a bite as every time I had visited while travelling past I had heard the same old story. “Any good” “Nah rubbish not a bite” However, upon casting the first rod out and turning round to bait the other rod beep beep beep. Holy crap a bite missed, that couldn’t have been in there 10 seconds. I got cast out again, the right rod baited with corn a gentle throw 30-40 yards out, and the left rod baited with triple maggot launched into the middle. I settled down behind my brolly and the bush and made myself comfortable reading the angling paper, well if I cant catch them I might as well read about them. About and hour and a few recasts(to get some bait out) later my first fish on the distance rod, a lovely gentle take slowly raising the indicator .A nice 5lb 4oz tench slipped into the net though it looked much bigger. About 4pm and another tench in the bag along came another club member with the expected remarks “what the f are you doing, carping?” Just cause ive got this set up do I have to be carping sheeesh . “ NO” I replied “Im after the tench” A snide look and away he walked to fish further along the lake. By 7pm with it turning a bit chilly I decided 5 Tench all between 4 and 51/2 pound was enough for the day and packed up extremely happy with the afternoons fishing
  20. Well Done    It ammazes me that people even finish in some of the suits they wear i know i couldnt
  21. After casting out sink your rod tip under the water and wind in a few turns of the reel, or a quick yank of the rod(this 1 takes some practise) if your line still isnt sinking properly u could try submerging your spool in a bowl of soapy water to remove the greese from the line.
  22. try here web page make sure you have slack line between rod and float and give float a few seconds to rise to the surface hope it helped a bit
  23. No idea, never hear of them, but if there these 20 quid couldnt hurt yeh over 15 posts wheres an avatar
