  1. We've added a new range of PVA gear, poles and some more Rod Hutchinson gear today... ...More RH on Monday. Product of the week this week - The Travel Fly Kit - selling very well!
  2. See it before, many times. If it doesn't resolve the problem drop me a line and I'll see what else I can suggest!
  3. post = power on self test i.e. when you get your initial Bios text.... Sorry!
  4. Hmm.. Pretty sure I've had ME on 80gb to 120gb drives as single partitions - however - I'm dedicated to Win2k for all my own stuff (and I use NTFS). Looking at the above it sounds suspiciously like an 80gb - I've done computer repairs many times, and once or twice put the wrong one in myself (it's very easy to do, since the procedure for setting them up is basically the same). Whilst I am sure many do it out of dishonesty, most dealers have automatic boot disks, and once th OS is one, pretty much get the drivers on and call that it. Best method is to check the hard disk physically and see what the label says. Failing that when the hard drives are autodetecting during the post hit the pause/break key and take down the drive information and we can look it up here for you. [Enter] will resume the post again. Partitioning is a useful thing by all accounts (plenty of info via Google if interested) though if it's an 80 I'd go with four 20's or two 40's.
  5. Advice The 2nd langworth lake look like man-made 'always catch' shallow lakes. Carp basking constantly, very highly stocked. Aby has some monsters in there somewhere (we've had 15lb plus). It can fish badly, but you can see the fish when standing up on the high banks. Nice lake, nice and quiet. Willow (carlton) is one of the guaranteed catch lakes in the summer and is hugely popular. Got a few lakes here, I've had fish to 12lb or so, but seen bigger. Has a fly lake, so worth taking a bit of extra gear in case you get bored. They have signs up about membership, but they do allow day ticket fisherman at a fiver. Alvingham - check ahead, we hit two or three matches last year and got relegated to the second lake (where people caught to about 12 or 13lb). The main lake is well stocked, good fish. Vickers. I had a few days of hitting stockies at 1 to 3lb and never went back. People pulling out good bream to 6 or 7lb, but I didn't witness big fish last year. Didn't go often. Brickyard. One visit last year. Blanked. Huge lake, need to probably spend a bit of time prebaiting and getting to know the water. Saw a 15lb pulled out though in the margins on a pole. Other than that we've witnessed some good carp in the Canal running out from Louth to Tetney lock, especially near Fulstow way (go to the resevoir, head down the little side lane running towards fulstow and find the green bridge). Gets very weedy, and you get a lot of pike, roach, perch as well (making it a reasonable day). We've never had a carp, but we've seen some *big* fish for what looks like uninteresting bit of water.
  6. I live in Louth, 16 miles south of Grimsby. There are loads and loads of day ticket lakes in the area from Thoresby, Oasis Lakes (Somercoats), BrickYard Fisheries(Somercoates), Vickers(Saltfleetby), Oham Lakes (Maltby le Marsh - Good) Willow Lakes (nice lakes - Carlton, Nr Manby) Authorpe Aby Alvingham (good pond - lots of matches) Belleau (supposedly good, I'll try it this year) Sycamore Lakes (Burgh-Le-Marsh, nr skeg) Woodland Fisher (spilsby - floodlights!!) Langworth (nr lincoln) - 3 Very good/popular lakes all separately owned - one at the caravan site as you go in from louth end, one just past spar shop on left (hugely popular - has a syndicate lake as well if you are interested), and one which looks very nice on the right opposite the garage (although I blanked there last year). Probably more out towards Lincoln and round up towards Grimsby/Scunthorpe but never ventured out that way too much (as you can see, there's plenty here!).
  7. Gmail...privacy concerns?? See webmasterworld!! Seriously though it should be fine for most things. For those who said OE and hotmail should work there ** might ** (I don't know) be problems with Outlook Express and Hotmail via a router configuration since you are not talking about standard router POP3/HTTP/FTP transmission but some proprietory protocol I think. Most router/ics setups have some form of integrated firewall that might bounce the hotmail protocol.
  8. How old is the monitor? Have you bought a new mobile phone, repositioned your speakers, new radio keyboard/mouse etc. (thinking interference).
  9. Tiscali £24 and no caps on bandwidth - I am a heavy user (see my signature - I do all my own work) and yet never had any trouble. Free intro offers usually available.
  10. I've never seen a mishandled pike - though I've caught quite a few with other peoples hooks in them that I've had to discorge!! Back to the question though - Does anyone think it might be an idea to supply all anglers with a definitive set of fishing rules when they get their licence AND local byelaws as well? Believe it or not I have fished for years and had to write to the environment agency when I was caught trout fishing in October last year. As it turns out where I was I was entitled to fish until 31st October, but many (slightly older) folk will swear blind that it's 1st October in our area.... The rules on canals are also very muddled. We have one (with Pike) but even though canals are now open for fishing all year in most areas ours is not - But - no one tells you this - it's all heresay and word of mouth.....
  11. Two good ones. I forgot Tony Scot on mine. We should do actors as well, but it's probably a forgone conclusion. I'm thinking of a certain Bond....
  12. Peter Jackson - None of us have him in the list! ** We is all bad hobbittesses **
  13. Quentin Tarantino - Kill Bill/PF/RD Ridley Scott - Alien/Bladerunner/Gladiator Richard Donner - Superman, Lethal Weapon 1-4... Martin Scorsese - Goodfellas/Casino Katherine Bigelow - Point Break ***** I'd also mention the modern action greats like John McTiernan (Die Hard I/III), Renny Harlin(DHII, CliffHanger), John Woo(FaceOff, Mission Impossible II), Micheal Bay (Bad Boys, Armageddon, The Rock). I really need a top 50 not a top 5!!!
  14. Safety clothing as well - buying it through this link supports AN though our comission payments! uk-fishing-tackle.co.uk/product...ts_id=145&ref=3 Seriously though you need the right gear on open seas (or big lakes, rock fishing etc). We all read the stories in the news, yet most of us (me included in the past) say it will never happen to us... Anyway - nice to see a positive outcome in this case. It's been a bad enough week for sea accidents.
  15. With regards to painting lures has anyone tried this glow in the dark paint that you can buy on eBay from the states? I bought some of the powder and mixed it with a white enamel and it really does glow in the dark (very bright). Dubious about it working (not tried mine yet), but then I was about the cheap holographic spoons I got off ebay, which did better for me last year than most lures (mr plastic froggy still got his fair share though!)
  16. Sorry SSSI - Site Special Scientific Interest (our local canal is, despite the only thing of interest being the occasional shopping trolley!!).
  17. No, just the normal closed season (March through June) - 15 March to 15 June inclusive I believe. However, some canals are now fair game all year (since 2000) - They must be proper canals, have a towpath along their length, not be under SSSI* and presumably not be under anyone elses ownership (i.e. many canal stretches are privately owned as far as fishing rights go I understand). June 16th through Sep is lure time! Oct through March is deadbait time - not cast in stone -but that's how most of us tend to go!!
  18. I like the registry lock on Search and Destroy (although it can be irritating if installing software). I do not think the resident shield is enabled by default with S&D - but it does have one. Ad-aware - I find I have had relatively poor results in general. Must say I've probably not used it in a year or thereabout so it may have improved. Agree totally about the firewall and AV with regards to only running one of each at a time. The amount of jobs where I have found two, three or more out of date AV checkers on one machine is unbelievable. Theres some press about Spyware removal programs detecting each other as being spyware (Spybot have an article about it on their website) - never had any experience of it myself.
  19. Not very clear "A quick test would be to get a firewall on before connecting to the Internet (i.e. download one on another PC - Zonealarm or Tiny will do), get it installed immediately after installing Windows and then fire up the Internet. If it runs for a day or two that would indicate viruses/spyware could be the problem (Search180 seems to be doing the rounds as well at the moment and it had a machine of mine playing up like a b'stard not long back)." Read more than a day or two....i.e. if your problem does not reoccur!
  20. Presumably if it's a two year old restore disk (or thereabouts) it is an old version of Windows XP (or an original one more to the point). Thinking back I had a load of clients with blaster virus issues and other such crap which all exploited the same security loophole in XP and 2000. Thinking about it if you connect fine initially and then start to hit problems after a day or so it is MORE than possible that in this time you are being infected (it really doesn't take that long). Viruses these days (and malware) do not all require email to spread!! Very important note that most magazines are very lame on pointing out! A quick test would be to get a firewall on before connecting to the Internet (i.e. download one on another PC - Zonealarm or Tiny will do), get it installed immediately after installing Windows and then fire up the Internet. If it runs for a day or two that would indicate viruses/spyware could be the problem (Search180 seems to be doing the rounds as well at the moment and it had a machine of mine playing up like a b'stard not long back). The microfilter shouldn't be an issue. You might get a small bit of additional interference but the error correction on a 56k modem should sort it out anyway. I've done this lots of times and it's never been a problem. Compuserve/AOL - Ditch in favour of a real ISP who uses standard software. I'd personally reccomend Tiscali (never had an ounce of trouble).
  21. Ahh something I know!! As an IT consultant I can help you here... With broadband whilst it is referred to as a permanent 'always-on' connection you typically are not connected 24/7 and you do still connect (i.e. double click internet explorer, click connect) as you would with your existing setup. However, since you are not paying any fees for usage or time online most people tend to connect once when they start the machine and leave it connected. However, should you not wish to be on the Internet for whatever reason (may I suggest security) then you can disconnect as you normally would. You can use the telephone whilst using the broadband and if someone rings you your phone will still ring (unlike the engaged tone or 1571 like you currently get). However, this is depenedent on the correct configuration of microfilters, which are small little adapters that should go into all of your sockets (regardless of whether a computer is connected or not). People fitting microfilters (which are typically supplied by your ISP with the modem) to just the computer line was one of the key mistakes many made (it will often still work, but it can cause problems). Finally if you move to broadband install decent software to limit the damage caused by spyware, malware and viruses. Unlike a 56k connection you typically will not notice (at first) these programs installing and performing their malicous roles in the background, and by the time you pick up on it, it can often be too late. My personal favs are AVG Anti-virus (version 7) www.grisoft.com Spybot Search and Destroy www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html Tiny Personal Firewall www.tinysoftware.com All very wise precautions. I've never had any faith in ISP based virus/firewall protection. Also, from experience, Norton has proved difficult at times (many swear by it though -I've only sworn at it!).
