  1. Simon Everett used one when we fished off the south hams.It definetely helped a lot,I was drifting past the chosen area probably three times faster than he was. If he doesn't pick up this thread try sending him a pm, Jon.
  2. Hi all, Nice to know I'm missed! I'm still here and regularly checking in-I haven't posted as I've nothing to report. The prowler is under wraps in the poly tunnel, but hasn't been completely mothballed.I still intend trying for some flounder down here in the south west, but that period of stormy weather a while back put too much fresh water into the estuaries for my liking so I put on my other hat- picked up my falconry glove and have been enjoying some great sport with my female Harris hawk instead. As a result the menu here in the Rundle household has been interesting:rabbit curry, rabbit pie, rabbit surprise!,stir fried pheasant, pheasant curry etc etc... I'm really impressed with the enthusiasm that is apparent on most of the posts here especially some of your night excursions, but I know my limits-I can do cold and I can do dark but dark and cold!!nah I wish all of you a very merry Christmas and a great new year Cheers Jon. I'll be back!!!!
  3. Hi all, I'm not wholly convinced with these turbines,I do suspect that the government are paying lip service towards European green targets and I do worry about the effect on birds. There have been recorded instances of wind farms being placed in the path of migrating birds. I used to think tidal power was the answer but now realise what a devastating influence these could have on our estuaries. Like David Bellamy my vote would go towards trying to harness wave power. As we're surrounded by coast it has to seriously considered. Jon.
  4. What a great read, don't stop after the first installment-it just keeps on going. Thanks for the tip, Jon.
  5. This ones true-honest. I was in the supermarket last week doing big shop with the obligatory list provided by my wife.A new neighbour recognized me and commmented on me doing the shopping:"I like to see a man with a list" she said- I said nothing just leant far over to starboard. She just looked at me strangely and walked away.
  6. Running out of ways to say well done...er, well done. Absolutely brilliant!!
  7. Nice fish ,well done (especially the release bit) Jon.
  8. Yep still here and checking in almost every day(sad git), Just don't want to repeat posts-Looking forward to seeing any pics from forthcoming Brixham get together.Fish would be a bonus looking at the sea state However I do have an interesting tale to tell:: I normally try to seriously fish dawn or dusk/dark however last weekend saw me on child minding (quality time with kids )duty and the only opportunity to fish was mid afternoon.I decided to try for some flounder in a local estuary which fished dismally last year.My baited spoon failed to attract a flounder(which is often decried as a poor fighter-I suspect this is from shore fishermen using beach casting equipment? as one taken on a short spinning rod on a dinghy/kayak will provide a lot of sport) and I attracted a lot of attention from the local mullet! This was on a big spoon with a large hook and the fish in question (which kept on following the lure up to the kayak!) were definetely mullet(possibly thin lips as they appear more susceptible to lures/spoons) I connected only once and lost the fish(and spoon ) after an exhilarating brief fight. After several pints of home brew and serious contemplation,I have come up with a plan....... Hopefully there will be a part two Cheers Jon.
  9. Yakerbass, I was working in the bay this morning and seem to remember you putting up a post about having tuesdays off.Had a feeling you might be out as conditions were lovely as they often are unless there is an easterly blowing. Only place we didn't visit was Brixham, had paignton sea front four times! Wish all of you well for Sunday,I'm working the Saturday night shift so unless something miraculous happens I doubt I'll be there. Stay safe and good fishing/fun Jon.
  10. Hi Dartman, I'm another local to the south hams but fish a bit more to the East. Just out of interest when you say you knobbled six bass does that mean you kept them or do you catch and release?
  11. Excellent result Gedi, glad you got your kit back.
  12. Well done boys, I hope to have membership of your exclusive club before the years out Jon

    Great weekend

The turtles should drop by the mull of galloway:I paddled for half an hour through thousands and thousands of jellyfish, never seen anything like it down here, Jon.
  14. Hi Mike, Borderman and myself visited the Mull of Galloway for a week this July. The area is superb but can be quite windy, however as you're fishing a thin peninsular you should be able to nip over to a lee side. The Irish side is rockier and deeper with plenty of big pollack. We certainly caught loads and all but two went back for next year. The Luce bay side is much more shallow and good for bass and sometimes tope, pm me if you want some more info, Jon.
  15. "Hi Dave Would love to meet up some time and fish the poole area. The guy who i went with isnt really into fishing, i gotta say i prefer a bit of company. I live in salisbury but unfortunatly this forum is very restrictive. No PMs and no profiles. Not really sure how i could get in contact without leaving peronal details on here. Any ideas?" Just keep posting, once you reach 15 you'll be able to pm, cheers Jon
  16. Hi Yakerbass, I thought I'd replied to this last night but it's disappeared? Funny thing you mentioning prawns,I tried for the first time in years to get some recently, at a previously good spot but failed.I haven't given up 'though as I know they can be excellent bait.I do use a lot of live sandeel float fished or freelining and as I'm sure you know that can be very exciting when you feel the eel speed up before a bigger fish attacks! cheers Jon. ps-If I was a bass I know which bait in your last picture I'd prefer.

    Great weekend

Sounds like a great weekend. Sometimes when the weathers not great, especially when the wind gets up I don't relish going out but it's nearly always worth the effort isn't it- Jon.
  18. Hi all, Grant-honestly I've tried slow retrieves, fast retrieves,5 sec retrieves and a twitch or three and all variations.I'm sure it is a very effect way to catch bass and I feel that I'll be catching them this way soon(just need to get a few on sandeel and rag to get the numbers back up) Simon(garfish magnet)-It's not where we went, just think of my closest launch site and turn east, though where we went is a top spot I'm very sure,if all those follows were bass(and I think they probably were)I've also thought of a slight alteration to your set up involving a sandeel or rag worm-will let you know how I get on. cheers Jon.
  19. Hi all, Been a while since I put anything up and that's because I haven't caught anything really noteworthy of late. However I really was pleased to catch this schoolie last night as I've been trying for ages to get one on a popper.Despite seeing bass and having some exciting swirls, boils, and bow waves I haven't got one.Now this means my catches have been well down compared to last year as by now I would have had quite a few using "old fashioned" methods. Quite interesting paddling back in the dark as I suddenly became aware the receding tide had caused the surf to build up,nothing the surfers amongst you would get excited about but it sharpened the senses somewhat! I didn't get this one on a popper either, It fell to a trolled eddystone with no weight-nice and simple to unhook and release instead of struggling with trebles.I haven't given up on the sexy lures yet but it's back to basics for a while. Good luck to all attending the "gathering" this weekend-a family camping outing has ruled me out unfortunately but I look forward to seeing your pics of real fish!!
  20. Hi Fatfish and welcome to the forum, anglersafloat is a useful site to visit and it has a malbu 2xl that will be a project for angling http://www.anglersafloat.co.uk/KayakMalibu.html. I have a prowler 13 and it does all I need.As far as getting on/off vehicles :I used to get it onto a landrover with a little effort and a home made roller bar,I've had to get a mondeo estate now the landy has blown up(again!)and got some thule hullaport J bars which make it a piece of cake. I would imagine having two kayaks will actually be less stressfull, much more room and less lines/rods and leashes to get tangled. Good luck Jon.
  21. Courses may vary in quality, mainly down to who has volunteered to take the course, but not the cpr protocol, they just change after fact based review and consultation. As Martin says this is the new train of thought, all based on the fact that if it is a viable arrest scenario then it's only just happened and therefore there is enough oxygen still in the bloodstream. The priority is to get it around the body and to the brain. It does seem to make a difference and I have used it.
  22. Try this: http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=66039 Jon.
  23. Superb pics Snatcher-takes me back to "lads week".I reckon the big one you lost was the "lump"that looked me in the eye as she swam right past the kayak!!Great fishing, Jon.
  24. Nice fish Richi-well earnt.Very easy to make excuses and have a glass or two inside but the only way to catch fish is to get out there and get your line wet. Fascinating that you got the bass on a wire trace,as things have cooled down here I've been thinking of going lighter and lighter-including trying fluro(which I haven't done yet) be interested if people here thinks it makes a difference? Cheers Jon.
  25. Or on land or wherever we cross paths .Ban that inflammatory type of post now!
