  1. Its a bit more complicated than that DUDE, no new licences will be issued by the masters at the EU. That means like cab licences they have become a tradeable item. But once again it aint strait forward, you need to match horse power with the boat the licence is going to and also the length and tonnage. More often than not when a licence changes hands DEFRA manage to whittle the unit value down before they will allow the trade to take place. If you wanted to put 2 or 3 licences together onto a larger or more powerful vessel i think the loss is about 20%. When you have all this in place you need to buy quota. All a load of horlicks realy
  2. As for enforcement, the EA, SFC's could recruit " unpaid deputies" who could check catches, licences, log books etc and get a "commission" for catching a "defaulter". Next step ethnic clensing and concentration/labour camps ever read 1984?
  3. May be its due to the gulf stream coming around the top of scotland and forcing the cooler water south and fish with it. Does the south east get the same amount of lionsmane jelly fish that the north east get in summer
  4. No probs Binatone. from time to time it needs a bit of a shake up but other times it just gets a bit repetative and as for speeling this whole sight is a testicle to our wunderfull edicasion sistem
  5. I bought a 12v to 15v to 24v plugin adaptor for my lap top off ebay for about £12 (my fujitsu needs 19 volts in) has all the plugs to change polarity and shape I ran Navigator 4 for road use and i beat the living day lights out of my pda running same . My pda will run flat after 2 or 3 hours if not pluged in when running tomtom 5
  6. The top and bottom of this is about pot shots I think the site should have a new heading in forum catogories. some thing like personal attacks , vendettas or just plain old TISH STIRRING
  7. If slips trips and falls does become a legal issue for skippers and anglers at sea Then maybe the MCA can add something to the requirements laid down in the code of practice booklets. If every one has to have the same system of warning signs and safety inductions there may even a reduction in insurance premiums? Snaping and snarling, bitching and biteing wont sort it out If it comes to it the law will do that. and that will do no one but the legal people any good
  8. I was up that way about 10 years ago we went beach fishing for spotty dogs and had a go on an old pier for conger One lad had a strap about 24" (i think the pier is where they broke up the old ark royal ? ) We toured about and came to a spot called East and West Tarbet. We had no gear other than beach casters so could not tackle the Mullet that were feeding on the surface like trout in a lake I think fly fishing would be some fun there.
  9. Some or all of the above may be true but i got this from the Uk hydrographic office today and they seem to be happy with old mercator Thank you for your enquiry regarding our charts. Please be advised that we do use Mercator projections on most of our charts how ever we also use Transverse Mercator, Polar Stereographic and Gnomonic. I hope you find this information of use but should you require further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind regards Susan Juggins On behalf of UKHO Helpdesk I think it was Mr Harrisons clock that made the determination of longitude possible (He was a carpenter i think)
  10. you might as well tye on a few feathers or muppets and jig it?
  11. Just out of curiosity Norrie where do you find 500ft/90 fathoms of water to anchor in?
  12. Looks like all the world and his wife want a shout at the marine debate I would think quite a number of those companies will have an interest in being allowed to rip up tear down and generally disrupt the sea bed or use its water. They are the ones with the financial clout. If money can buy a knighthood the rights to dredge the seabed or worse must only be small change
  13. Hi Elton I diddnt see any where the word NYLON I have read various small boat handling books and most have suggested the use of NYLON some where in the anchor warp or for mooring lines The reason NYLON is used is it has a fairly high stretch ratio ?20%? which acts as a shock absorber which helps prevent the anchor jumping or cleats being pulld out of the deck. Another point is tha anchor is one of the most essential safety items on your boat so dont skimp. just think, onshore wind, dead engine, breakers on a rocky headland and only the washing line between you and the anchor thats keeping you off those rocks. tiSh happens forget the rest use the best PS i think nylon sinks as well
  14. It was the Dutch man Mercator who managed to get the concept of a globe portrayed as a flat chart i think
  15. On the subject of low fish stocks does any one know how much a full grown seal eats a day. 15 years ago there were a few seals feeding in the whitby area. But now there are reports of breeding collonies being established with groups of upto 30 being seen by people walking the more remote areas of shore line (stretches of 5 to 7 k between whitby and robin hoods bay for example)
  16. Every single normal person on this planet once thought it was flat. Aparently the flat earth thing came about from a movie staring Danny Kay he sang a song about columbus and a flat earth Saw it on QI bbc last week
  17. Very true glennk unfortunatly we have been sucked into that litigeous way of life that was spawned on the other side of the pond. Could go the way of industry with caution and warning signs all over the job, and how about doing what the airlines now do and play the anglers a safety induction audio tape as you leave the port Cost nothing and you have CYA thus making it SOFP
  18. I would have thought that the skippers public liability would cover for any thing like negligence or incompetence (i am not pointing a finger) these are the words that the legal whores like to use for example If you are an insured motorist and cause an accident by falling asleep at the wheel in which some one is injured. then the insurer will pay compensation to the victim, How the Law treats you after that depends on the circumstance. If you were drunk you might get Jail however which way the victim will have a claim against you AND YOUR INSURERS
  19. FWIW the man in question starts salmon fishing from a small boat from the beach in the next few weeks Having surrendered his drift net licence (for a compensation)he was allowed a T&J licence to catch the same stock The same man also decommissioned his fishing coble some years back. He was also a very very good fisherman and as they say in whitby nay body beats Lewis

    Boat Paint

Hi Sharkbyte been there done that and it realy does the job I used an isolator /sealer as undercoat to avoid the usual reaction with oil based domestic paints. I also broke all the rules and used nitromorse paint stripper to get the top 10 coats of dulux off. Working only about a square foot at a time it only took about 20 hours to get to a point where sanding had an effect (23ft boat)
  21. cHECK THIS OUT FOR SOME EXELENT UNDER WATER COD LING LOBSTER AND ALL SORTS
  22. All done in good faith BoozleBear Cannot fault you on that
  23. METHINKS THAT 0911 NUMBER MAY BE A PREMIUM CHARGE LINE. IT COULD COST YOU TO BE DELETED George Orwell and 1984 rings a bell
  24. I dont have a link for it but the Times had a long article on sewage in the Thames some time last week It was relative to the 2012 games and showed about 20 areas of the river with known raw sewage overflows. All seem related to a victorian pump house that can no longer cope (estimate £2 bn to sort it )
