  1. Hi Gloss WHERE DO YOU LIVE , and do you have transport Scunthorpe police angling club has some nice waters on the Trent, Lady Pitt Farm near Newark about 18 miles from Lincoln. Then there's the River Don around Doncaster way behind the prison. Hope that helps
  2. got 2 of the caps, 1 for me 1 for the missus, they are good quality and nice to wear . Also got one of the baitrunner reels for £7.99, it's looks a bit plasticky but i'll see how it fishes
  3. was fishing a known perch hole at a local water yesterday and catching at distance, as the day wore on and the bites stopped I could see a lot of perch swimming in front of me about 4 foot from the edge, the water was gin clear and I could see them swimming about, and it was a bright sunny day. This was the funny thing, I started to to fish for them up in the water, I could see the red maggot I was using floating down in the water, when I scattered some freebies round my bait the perch were taking them but not my bait, so I experimented. I place all my shot directly under the float so my bait would fall more slowly. I cast out then had a few fish, they then stopped taking my bait, but still took the freebies. I then tried 1 maggot on my hook, a couple of fish took them then no more bites, they were still taking the freebies and going up to my bait and "sniffing it" but ignoring the maggots, then I tried 5 maggots on the hook, bang, a nice 2lb perch, then they ignored the large baits again but still took the freebies. I had to keep changing the amount of maggot (they ignored the worm when I tried that) on my hook to keep catching. and I was catching all size's from small to about the 2lb mark and had a good session. Now I could see the fish when they took the bait, in fact I was ignoring my float and just watching them take the baits to catch them. If I could see them surely they could see me and it was interesting to see how they were reacting and how I had to keep changing the amount of maggots on my hook to catch them. Now the question, Were they learning from experience that 1 maggot spelt trouble, then 5 maggots, then 2 etc etc and then forgetting after a while about the experience of being caught which is why I could keep catching by alternating the amount of maggot on the hook. Do fish have short term memories or were they just being fickle Interesting thought
  4. fish the Don in the city centre behind Bennets tackle shop. Grayling, chub, barble and even trout, better still go down to Attercliffe and fish Salmon Pastures, you need to tackle up big and hard on the bottom far bank if you want to not get pestered by the minnows. Had some good days down there. The fish are there.
  5. when we lived in Sheffield fours years ago we used to fish the Rother from Beighton (from the small weir) back towards Rother Valley Country park. Some lovely big chub if you can get through the gudgeon. if you go towards the park there is also a pond next to the river, used to be some big carp in there, and it's free fishing. If you not been there you should try it out. the bottom of the weir used to fish well and I saw another angler pull a 5lb brown trout from there.
  6. Guess what, who's a stupid idiot. it's been so long since i've used it I forgot thats what you had to do. At least I can now use it.
  7. Hi hope this the right place to post, I went to try my lamp which has been stuck in shed for a over a year without use, and when I try to pump it up the air will not go in. obviously something has blocked up with it not being used (there was still some fuel in it) I cannot find my manual leaflet that came with it. I can get the first part of the pump oot but that leaves a rod sticking out which somehow needs to come out and be cleaned I assume. does anyone know how to get this part out of the lamp. thanks
  8. Off to our fave perch water to get a PB perch and beat the missus, or rather I am, after last week i'm leaving the wife at home to do housework
  9. i'm going to have to stop going fishing with my wife. we went to one of our fave local fishing waters where there are some big perch. She had a good perch at the beginning of the session then not much more apart from the odd small roach or perch. I was pulling in some nice roach up to 1lb-1lb8oz, but no perch. at about 4.30pm as the light was beginning to fade I had a nice 2lb 8oz perch out. then what does she do, 20 mins later she goes and gets a PB perch(beating my 3lb PB). a nice 3lb 8oz perch. think i'll leave her at home to do the housework next week ignore the time on photo as she has not set time right
  10. Fingers crossed got Thursday and Friday off this week, so hopefully me and missus both off fishing
  11. about time too, saves me having to laminate my licence when I get it.
  12. We had an old style Renault Espace a few years back till some idiot wrote it off, with all the rear seats out we could get a double blow up air bed in it, loads of space for tackle. Got a Nissan Serena now, not as much space as the Renault Espace though.
  13. Hi try this one http://www.sycamorefarm.net/ we have been 6 times, have already booked for this year in August. never had any probs with "chavs" its a very quiet site, its about 3 miles from Skegness so you can always go their for evening if you wish, but we fish into dark. pic of wife with fish caught at site.
  14. Would you believe it, me and the missus have been keeping an eye on the weather for our xmas day pike fishing trip and up till a couple of days ago it was a south westerly wind, now according to the weather channel it's going to be an easterly at about 11kph(whatever that is in english mph.) So what does every one else think, will it be a blank day, normally i woundn't go out with an easterly blowing.
  15. targets for the upcoming year. just to carry on and enjoy my fishing, if anything special comes along so be it, as they say " born to fish forced to work"
  16. A venue i'm fishing at the moment has some nice perch in, the biggest i've had this year being 3lb, but I know there is a 5lb 8oz perch in that water, it could even beat the record soon. knowing that every Tom Dick and Harry would be there like a shot trying to get that fish out. NO I would get my photo taken and put it back. I might let the fishery owner know and if he wanted the publicity it would be up to him, but hopefully he would realise what the down side would be.
  17. Hi thinking of digging the old sea gear out soon, has anyone fished the Humber recently and is it worth crossing the bridge and paying £5.70 return to fish back of Makro's in Hull or stay on south side and fish East Halton. any up to date info would be good thanks
  18. the end of the line is curly so I know the hook is slipping off. gonna change my line to see if that resolves situation. thanks for replies.
  19. Ok, can anyone tell me whats going on here. have been to 2 differant ponds recently with some big carp in, and snaggy so I fished 10lb line straight through to a size 10/12 barbless hook. tied hook on using the grinner knot as I always do. have some carp out up to 9lb with no probs, then I had a bite which took me straight out to the middle of the pond which was snag free in the middle. (clutch set correctly) then before I had time to play the fish my line went ping , and the hook came off. I rehooked but this time wound the line down the hook shank 10 times to give it a better fix. The same thing happened latter when I had a fish on . I know they were big fish although i'm told the biggest at one pond is 20lb, but even with 10lb line on and the clutch set correctly, surely I should be able to play the fish, why would the hook just come off. Is my line faulty(it's a branded line and not a cheapy) or were the fish that big that it would not have mattered how I tied the hook to the line. thoughts and solutions please. thanks
  20. the best way I find is to wait until we have had some rain, then at about 11pm go out with your head torch on and stalk them on the grass. very quietly go onto your lawn (or a playing field if your near one) as you shine your torch over the grass you will see them on top of the grass, see where they go into the ground and quickly put your thumb on them to stop them going down wormhole. Gently prise them out, but not to hard, and you will end up with some very nice big lobs, better than paying £5 for them. MInd you, your neighbours might think you are a lunatic.
  21. HI Guys & Gals Was talking to my father in law the other night about using Comfrey as a fertiser for gardens, he then went on to say that he used to use it in his groundbait when he used to fish (he's 77 now and cant get out to fish). He said he used to cut the Comfrey and put it in a bucket of water and leave it to soak for about a week, he then used the liquid as a fertiliser on his garden, BUT, also used to use some of the liquid as the base for his groundbait. He stated that the fish love it and he always used to catch a lot. Has anyone else heard of Comfrey being used in this way, or have you used it, and if so with what results, i'm going top grow some Comfrey and give it a try anyway later in the season. You never know.
  22. See what I mean about being a headache Pole sock? tulip grip? Anyway, looked on ebay for them, I take it that you put them in front of you and stick the end of your pole in it (missus has warned me about where i put my pole ) I have already made my own feed pot from a deodorant top, see how that works out when I go again, I did find that holding the pole across my knees was the best way for me. Going to take it again the weekend, and hopefuly I will improve and get better with it. I will be using the pole for works competion in June, all the top weights are caught on pole, there's only about 5 of us who usually fish with rod and reel, and we all finish in the bottom of the weights. Who knows, I might even have improved enough to win
  23. Your right, I already make my own pike rigs, sea rigs, carp rigs, so I reckon I will end up making my own rigs, mind you, at £2.50 each on local shop, or cheaper on ebay is it worth it Used the pole yesterday and I outfished my mate who had rod and reel, the pole was a bit heavy and I kept getting the float tangled at the end as the pole was bouncing around so much, so thats something I need to sort out. I can see the benefits of using the pole in a match as the bites were more defined. I shall carry on using it, and hopefully improving. I always take all my other rods when I go fishing anyway so i've always got something to fall back on. thanks for all info.
  24. Hi I've finally gone and got a pole after many many many years of fishing with rod and reel, and me saying I would never get a pole. It's only a cheap one to see how I get on, its a Keenets Carp Cadet 8m pole with elastic rating up to 20? It all looks a bit daunting, what with brushes, connectors, elastic ratings etc ect phew. I've looked all over the net for info on how to use one, and it alls seeems to be in bits and pieces. I mean, what extra bits of tackle should I always have on me, should I have differant elastics, or can I fish both waters with the same one. Does anyone know of a good site where all the questions and answers are all in 1 place without trawling through pages on the internet. I normally fish the drains at Keadby, or a commercial water with silver fish and carp up to 20lb. Any info appreciatted, or if anyone lives locally to Scunthorpe and wants to coach me for a day that would be helpful. Thank you all.
  25. Hi Does anyone know who owns the pier at New Holland and if it can be fished from. thanks
