  1. No probs mate. I'm moving to London in a couple of weeks. Maybe we can try out the River Wandle or something like that soon? I'm pretty nervous about this whole moving to London thing at the moment.
  2. What on earth is the world coming to? You see increasingly violent, pointless and pathetic crimes being committed as time goes by.
  3. I'm going to Chorlton Water Park tomorrow for hopefully an enjoyable day's fishing. Does anybody fancy coming along for a spot of fishing - I could use some company and it will be a great way to get to know my fellow AN anglers. I'm hoping to start fishing by about 2ish. Please reply to this thread if you are interested. Thanks.
  4. It is likely that you were slow in striking. It would be more helpful if you tell us what setup you're using. i.e. bait, line, float etc.
  5. You've got to be careful when fishing on a river. Since there is usually a stron current, you want to be loose feeding a couple of yards upstream of where the fish are. As the bait descends, it is carried away by the current, nd with a bit of careful planning you can get the bait where the fish are. Now, to target big roach, use 2-3 red maggots on a size 16 hook. But before you cast, loose feed about 10-15 red maggots in your chosen swim. Keep loose feeding every 5-10 minutes. The loose feed will be picked up by the smaller fish and fill them up, leaving the big 'uns to feed on the maggots. Also catapult a few maggots every time you catch a fish. I don't use sweetcorn for roach, as even the big ones tend to have small mouths. I might be wrong, but I think roach don't suck up the food like carp do. Other great baits are hemp and casters. PS Roach are silver in colour, with bright orange/red fins. Trout are also usually caught on flies.
  6. Thanks guys. I'll definitely try those combos out. Ducktape, since the bottom is silty, I'll probably use some casters as I've been told they're pretty good for catching tench.
  7. On the main website, there is a PayPal donate button on the left hand side of the page. You can't miss it.
  8. Definitely!!!! Plus, I doubt that the survey is reasonably accurate. I am pretty sure (heck, I am 100% sure) that more than 2% of the population are dishonest.
  9. Okay. I've got my new feeder quivertip rod with all the bits n bobs to start feeder fishing. I'm hoping to try out the method at Chorlton Water Park where carp of around the 20lb and tench around the 5lb mark have been taken. However, I have no idea what bait to use to catch carp and tench. I was wondering if someone could recommend what bait to use to catch these guys? Thanks. PS According to an angler who fishes at Chorlton Water Park frequently, there are no weeds in the lake. It just has a silt bottom. I have absolutely no idea how deep it is beyond the 10 yard mark. (Depth at around 10 yards is 3.5 feet).
  10. If you delete the data, the formatting should stay the same, but the coding will disappear. When you say coding, I assume you're talking about calcs.
  11. I decided to fish at Chorlton Water Park for the first time today. I've heard some great stuff about this place so I decided to have a go at some fishing there. I got all me gear into my carryall, took my float rod and my pole rod. Paid £3.00 at the wardens office (not bad eh?). Now, what struck me instantly was the fact that all the anglers were feeder fishing (plus the beautiful sight of the lake). I thought to myself "sugar, I'm going to be put to shame by these guys" and I thought I wouldn't catch anything. I setup at a peg that I thought was perfect. I started off by baiting the swim with some maggots and casters. Put 2 red and one white maggot on my size 16 hook. There were no bites at all for the first 15 minutes so I baited the area up a bit more. Then all hell broke loose. My first catch of the day was a 6oz roach. I casted back out and within 30 seconds I got another bite. This went on for about 2.5 hours. The biggest catch of the day was a 11-12oz roach. I was absolutely chuffed with myself. One of the other anglers said I was doing quite well for my first time there. Usually first timers go on to catch nothing. My point? Don't be put off by the sheer number of anglers who are fishing differently to you. Bait up your area and keep baiting every 15 minutes to create a hot spot. Cast accurately and hopefully you will have a thoroughly enjoyable days fishing. I think I'll go again tomorrow. I can't stop smiling lol Does anybody fancy coming along to Chorlton Water Park on Sunday? I could use some company.
  12. Home made pizza with cheese and garlic balls. What can I say, I like cheese.
  13. lol That's absolute class. You should have said that it belongs to the guy who works next to you. I once farted at work, and I said that it was the guy next to me who did it lol.
  14. I usually leave about 2mm between the bend and the bait. The only reason why you would consider increasing the length is due to the size of the bait. Otherwise the hooking potential seriously deteriorates.
  15. Are there any fees payable to fish the Bollin/Dane? I think they belong to Bay Malton Angling Club or something like that.
  16. The Nokia 6230i is known to have problems with MMS messaging. Make sure you have GPRS on your phone. Go to the following page and take it from there: http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,,77073,00.html I hope this helps.
  17. Go here for some preparation info: http://www.fishing4fun.co.uk/bait/index.shtml I'm not sure about the shelf life bit, but I freeze any left overs etc.
  18. Oh yeah, I forgot about about the Mersey. They say the stretch in Walkden near the lock and weir is pretty good. Unfortunately, I don't have a car, so I can only venture out of town on the weekends when my dad is free. However, the weekends are usually wet during these months. Which part of the Dane and Weaver do you fish? Addresses etc. are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  19. I've been looking for stretches of river to fish in the Manchester area. So far, I found the River Medlock which you can fish in Clayton Vale. Are there any other stretches of the river which can be fished? There's also the River Irwell which runs through town, but I can't seem to find a way of getting down to the banks. Can anybody help? Thanks.
  20. Oh yeah, I saw that on the tele last night. It was absolutely superb. I liked the way Brandy reacted to the whole thing lol.
  21. Hemp is the seed of cannabis plants. Hemp which is used for fishing are sterelized and treated so that they do not germinate and produce the cannabis plants. However, some fishery owners believe that the stuff can still relese the toxins of cannabis in its seed form. So, in effect, they are trying to avoid fish that are high on the stuff etc. etc.
  22. What's the nearest tube station to Richmond Park? I might make a visit because I'm moving to London in about a months time.
  23. I introduced my dad to coarse fishing only about 2 months ago, and he absolutely hates touching fish, especially perch for obvious reasons. So I just bought him a pair of fishing gloves. Hardly has any problems now.
  24. I would suggest using a pole rod on the canal. If you use a float rod, you would find that on fast flowing canals a bow would form in the line and this would tend to bring the float under the surface, thus giving false indications of a bite. To avoid this, properly sink the line by dipping the tip of the rod in the water and then cranking the reel a few times, or better yet, use a pole rod.
  25. Don't forget that if the float fails to settle to it's final position, the bread flake would have probably been intercepted on the drop. That's a time to strike.
